Also, please speak up if it offends you. That way we can watch what we say around you.

Dude, ever seen anyone that worked in a factory that didn't cuss? LOL I try to watch myself and especially not use the really bad words, but working around a bunch of men makes it hard to do. Nope, I don't take offense.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I don't think I curse too much in my posts, but in real life I am a terrible potty mouth. When I was in 3rd grade when best friend's 9th grade brother taught us all the words and the context to use them in. I've been hooked ever since. My daughter is starting to babble alot though and I am thinking my mouth will have to go the direction LyndyS said. The weird thing is that I don't even usually use the words as a curse anymore. It is like unintelligent vocab.

Rad is pretty bad!

Walkincrow actually can cuss circles around me. We were sitting in a Wendy's chewing on some burgurs and every other word is f**k. It's cool with me but there was this little old man & woman behind us that looked like they just left Church. I'm suprised they didn't get up & move! LOL.

Yeah, sometimes I'm a foul mouth (it's not my fault, it's all these f***ed up sh!t-for-brains sons-of-b!tch*s who don't know how to drive their m.therf***king cars. If you don't know how to drive, stay the f#ck out from in front of me).

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
This is one of those things that I try really hard not to do. It is very hard not to do when you are around other people who do cuss. Some cussing has it?s place, that?s why I try and save them up for just the right moment when it is going to be most effective. Anyone remember the first time they saw Phil use a good zinger? My point exactly! It grabbed your attention didn?t it?

I don?t care for the f word when overused but I can let it slide. GD and Jesus Christ are the two that I don?t handle well. It shows a total lack of respect. If these are two of your favorites save us both the time and never hike with me.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I rarely cuss, and never use foul language on line. That said, as little as I do cuss, when I do, it carries much more strength then when someone whose every other word is lewd. When I'm with people I know it doesn't bother me at all, when I overhear other people who I don't know, who might be a bit loud, it does get to me a bit. What can I say, rudeness bugs me. And yes it does rub me the wrong way when used while posting, not that anyone gives a damn. I'm not an attention craver, and in my honest opinion, I think lots of people use foul language here to get attention.

One day, when my son was 2, he walked around the house saying "sh!t.....sh!t....sh!t". I stopped cussing that day. I've never picked it back up again although when I feel really strongly about something....

I've been told that people are really shocked when they hear me cuss and that it has much more impact and meaning that way.

I do draw the line at saying G.D. I'm not a Church goer or anything but there's no excuse for that.
I know what yall mean about not cussing untill special times and it having more power when you do. I just don't have that kinda control.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I had to chuckle when I saw this thread. After over a year of not visiting this site at all, the past couple of months I've started checking back and reading some threads about once every week or two. The foul language on this site was why I chose to leave. I see things have not changed.

Now please realize this is a totatlly personal decision for me and doesn't reflect my personal feelings for people who swear. Heck, I have actually been known to say a bad word or two. When I sit back in the evenings and read on the web, I do so for my enjoyment and reading foul language annoys me. So I choose to go elsewhere. That's what freedom of speech is all about after all.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
Cussin' for emphasis is OK with me.

One of my favorite foul-mouth guys is Samuel L Jackson.
Sam Jackson has just about THE most convincing, "mutha-f**ckuh" that I have ever heard.
When teamed up with Bruce Willis in the movie DIE HARD 3 they were ONE cussin' combo!

I cleaned up my language when my boys were little.
Those little *#@!%?*#!'s sure do listen to EVERY thing you say even when they look to be lost in play and oblivious to the world around them.

What drives my sorry A$$ up the wall is when I hear "like" talkers.
Every other word is LIKE!@##$%&*(&^%$#eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
Oddly, this is one of the few recent posts I felt like responding to.

Newgirl, that last comment of yuours hit the nail on the head for me. Sklukaz, your thoughts are right on the money, IMHO.

A friend of mne once commented that "you don't swear very much, do you?" I had to think about her question for a moment, then realized she was making a more profound statement than she realized. Profanity, like others have said here, has its place, and I am guilty as anyone for using it - mostly at moronic, arrogant drivers, and terrorists - but it seems to me that Dunk's last comment is often the case, as is my own perception that those who use it in every sentance, who can't seem to take a breath without swearing, who have become so used to its place in their limited vocabulary, they project themselves as less than educated.

Now, I hope this doesn't offend anyone... it's only my perception, and I don't make the rules. I just do what's comfortable for ME. But, when I meet a woman, for instance, in whom I might be attracted, she can quickly chip away my fantasies - and eventually drive me away - when she comes off as a sailor in disguise. Frankly, if she can exhibit such a foul mouth in casual, intimate conversation, there'll be hell to pay when she gets pissed off. (OOPS!)

Why would I want to kiss THAT?

A little colorful language is OK- just don't drop the F-bomb so often that it loses it's impact.

A woman wrote into our local paper complaining of the headline, "OH MY GOD!", the day of the WTC attack. She chastised them for the using the Lord's name in vain. Christ on a Cracker! What next?

I've tried unsuccessfully a number of times to make a conscious effort to stop useing cuss words...So I quit trying, dagnabbit!

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I try not to swear and appreciate it when people do not swear very much. (One exception is Mel talking to her llamas in llama language. Llama language consists of mostly 4 letter words and Mel speaks it fluently).

IMHO, 99% of the use of the F-word done "for effect" is wasted. It is so overused that it vary rarely produces the desired effect.

I appreciate Mad Cow's comments. I am sure she is not alone. She has a lot of experience grabbing peaks and it would be nice to see her posts on many threads.

Note: I worked in an automobile assembly for 15 years. I heard more swear words in that period of time than most people hear in a life-time. It did improve a lot when women started working on the line...but some of them were pretty good at it also.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I prefer not to cuss, and I try to never swear online (doesn't always work.)

When I hear people who use a swear word as the noun, verb and adjective of the same sentence all I can think is "gutter trash." Fair accusation? No.

Am I offended? Not really but I could do without it. "Like" talkers are more offensive to me.

Does this mean I never swear? Heck no, I'm the son of a salior. I'm just careful how and when I use it.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I don't swear much even tho most of the people I work with do. It just desen't feel right casually. Now, if I hit my head on that $#@%&*$ pipe again...

I don't find it offensive; I do think some people who cuss every other word show a lack of imagination. But, a properly timed expletive used in the right situation speaks volumes.

However, my lover found she likes to talk dirty in bed; I found hearing that and overcoming my reluctance to respond in kind somewhat liberating and excitiing.

OK, a bit more background on my end. I turn cussing off around others that might not appreciate it. I don't say "GD."

I grew up a household where SWEARING was saying "GD it." That was the only thing considered such. And it was virtually never said. It was the only thing I learned that was swearing. My dad would say "Judas Priest" when he was pissed. And you knew it was big trouble then! LOL!

I break down cursing into groups:

Religiously unacceptable (with the possibility of eternal damnation).

Socially unacceptable.

and,
Familiarly unacceptable.

And try to limit their use as much as is humanly possible.

Having children definitely puts a different spin on things.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
Having kids has made me restrain myself and I do pretty well. Having a four year old tell you things like "that is not a nice word, say passed gas" can make you clean up your act in a hurry.

I do find that nothing calms me down when angry like a well composed compound swear word, so it does have it's time and place. It can also intimidate an inanimate object into cooperation very well. It's like verbal WD-40.

Plug your ears when I hurt myself, such as banging a knee or jamming a finger. And I have some creative appelations for the dogs when they get under foot or gack on the carpet (such as this morning). If someone else is cussing away, I do find it contagious, so I have to watch my mouth.

My dad was a lifer sailor, but isn't a cusser. That fell to my mom's eldest brother, an ex-Marine who ran an auto junk yard. Truly every other word was GD or sh!t or a colorful variant on those themes, though he was pre-F-word being allowable era.

Well, I can finally agree with Gear Slut about something.... hell just froze over.

I cuss online, once in a while. In the real world, I only cuss on the softball diamond, and on neverending switchbacks. I broke my habit of swearing by replacing foul words with substitutes:

Jeez Louise.
Fiddlesticks (my favorite)
Son of a Biscut
heck and shoot.

RE: Foul Mouth TTers
I'm not offended by cursing, but I don't curse much myself. Never online; usually only under my breath. (And never in my white-collar office, Biz, where most of the people I work with also don't curse.)

I identify much with comments by Mad Cow, Dunk, and obi.

I find some of the comments here to be quite tiresome. (Can I say "juvenile" without sounding judgemental?) It isn't just the profanity, it is the crassness that seems so unnecessary...

Perhaps I haven't been around here long enough to be entitled to an opinion, but you know what they say: "Opinions are like -- " oops, wait, I can't say that word. ;-)

Peace.
