Nightmare That Wuld Not End
yeah, like anyone cares.. :) anywayz.. last night.. I had this reoccurring dream.. a small group.. somehow a fight got started.. led to one event after another.. till finally I woke up, or at least I thought I was awake.. only to find that the dream was starting all over again.

And so it went.. three or four times in a row.. finally got out of bed.. went downstairs and climbed in my favorite chair.. only to find it started one MORE time..

I got up.. walked outside awhile.. when I went back to bed at 3:15 I slept soundly. Anyone else have trouble with a nightmare that just wuld not end?

Try turning the computer off and spending a couple of days talking to trees.

I feel for ya. I remember when i had a few recurring dreams, and one time, while in NC on a field trip, everytime I went to sleep I had that dream (kept waking up from it, then going back to sleep only to have it recurr again, and so on, and so on). Ended up staying up most of the night it was so disturbing.

The dream was that I'd be laying there in blackness unable to move my body. I'd know I was asleep, even though I could make conscious thought, but couldn't move at all. I'd try to move my arms/legs with all my might, but couldn't do it. I'd end up fighting in my mind to awake, and would then wake up in a violent burst.

that was probably not a dream. it happens more than you think. sometimes, people will wake up, but, well.... i guess it's like waking up halfway.

RE: Nightmare That Wuld Not End
Yup!

I kept waking up and finding out I was tied up to the bed and no matter how many times I broke free of my restraints they kept tying me back down. The walls kept trying to fold in on me and I was going to be crushed. I`d break free again and this time I made it out of the bed, only to land on my knees after hitting my broken ankles on the floor. God what pain I had rush through me as I tried to pull myself up, but again I slumped on to the floor. I couldn`t get away, the tubes and stuff sticking out of me held me fast and then they rushed in again and got me back in bed and back into surgery.

They tell me I only did that five times, but it sure seemed like it happened more.

Good Drugs!

Being chased off a cliff by a pack of wolves. Every time I woke up and went back to sleep, the dream would start at the same point it left off. Forget drugs, I think it was the carrot salad.

RE: Nightmare That Wuld Not End
That exact scenario happens to me when :
1. I?m extremely tired and haven't got much sleep in a few days
2. I had pizza and beer before going to bed (no joke).

I'll get out of bed , walk around, watch a little T.v. then go back to bed.

RE: Nightmare That Would Not End
What many of you describe (especially Buddur) is most likely related to a sleep disorder called "isolated sleep paralysis" (ISP). The University of Waterloo has a very good website on the subject:

http://watarts.uwaterloo.ca/~acheyne/S_P.html

I have had experiences similar to Buddur's since I was a kid, and I only learned recently that there are OTHER people with the same "malady" (if one can call it that). Before I came across an article on the subject of ISP, I had never shared my experiences with ANYONE, thinking that I was somehow unique in this problem. Just knowing that this is not some indicator of a deeper, darker disorder has made me sleep better at night.

RE: Nightmare That Wuld Not End
Forrest, I would never tell people because I couldn't explain it. The closest explanation would be "wipe out" dreams.
I'm dreaming that I'm dreaming, I would dream that I would fall out of bed and couldn't get back up, trying to scream and can't. Trying to wake up and can't. Etc. and when I do wake wake up it starts up again the second I shut my eyes

So from now on when my wife asked why I'm getting out of bed I'll tell her it's another I.S.P. dream. Thanks Dr. Forrest (Tic)

RE: Nightmare That Wuld Not End
I have had this sort of thing happen to me before, but last night was the most intense. The dream itself was frightening enough, but to have it happen over and over again.. just as I THOUGHT I was awake.. (it's weird how you can dream about being awake)...

It really spooked me.

RE: Nightmare That Wuld Not End
oh, wow, there's a name for it! i have "isolated sleep paralysis" too, and it sucks! i've asked people if they ever had it happen to them, and i've never met anyone that has before...interesting. actually, the period between being awake and being asleep is usually very intense for me...but in a bad way when i can't move, and want to!

TownDawg, you should listen to what your dream is trying to tell you! i think of the images in dreams as a (very) foreign language that must be interpreted. your unconscious is insisting that you acknowledge something by being so persistent, and by scaring you so much...this is especially true for a repeating dream. you should look in dream dictionaries, and see if any of the interpretations strike you. paying attention to my dreams has made my waking life a lot better!
