Tech Help Again! “Hey Guys, I need some help again. On the computer at work (a Compaq) the icons on the desktop and the various windows I open are enormous. I went to control panel, display settings, and tried to change the adjust the settings, but it didn't work. I can't reach the ok button to make a permanent change. Help! I wrote Compaq an e-mail, but they are too slooooow! I know I can count on you Techies!” 11:05:38 AM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “right click on the taskbar icon. select "move". use the keyboard arrows to move the window, and the "OK" button, into view.” 11:08:17 AM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “I'm pretty sure the "OK" button is the default button on that dialog, so you could probably also just press Enter...” 12:53:16 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “well, that too.” 1:17:20 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “What operating system, newgirl? There may be a Group Policy Object in Windows 2000 that prohibits making changes like that, although doubtful. If that is the case, you'll have to deal with your system administrator. If the problem is that your screen area is too large, use the Enter key with the window highlighted to "press OK" or the arrows to scroll down the window until the "OK" button is visible. If your screen area is correct, but your icons appear too large, click on the Effects Tab and make sure "Use large icons" is unchecked. My guess though, is that your screen area size has been changed.” 1:36:30 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “Start, settings, control panel. OK? Then display, effects, and then unclick "use large icons"” 3:12:47 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “I have no idea how this happened in the first place. I left Tuesday night and it was fine. The other sec. came in yesterday (she is literally computer illiterate) and called me frantically to say what had happened. I told her I'd check it out today. What I finally did was restart the computer in safe mode and I guess, basically reset the settings. It worked. Thanks for the other suggestions. TTer's should get paid for all their tech support. So far you guys are much more helpful than Gateway or Compaq.” 4:24:35 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “i WORK for gateway!!!!” 4:26:15 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “LOL!!!! just kidding!!!!” 4:26:30 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “newgirl, you don't have to thank us, just leave large bills in the tip jar. We'll split it up at the end of the week. ;-)” 4:28:23 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “newgirl: "Help! My icons are huge and I can't click OK!" commercial for medic alert: "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" Coincidence? ...and I always thought enormous icons were an admirable trait!” 4:32:38 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “how's the medication, ski? LOL!!!!” 4:34:40 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “No meds for a couple of months, rad. Jeez, I crack myself up sometimes.” 5:13:01 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “newgirl, your display driver is hosed and windows is running in vga mode. You need real tech support, and it's rather detailed. Either send me your email address (I can help you with this, it's a fairly common problem) or contact Compaq tech support. Click on my signature to get my email addy.” 6:34:46 PM 9/20/01 RE: Tech Help Again! “huh? Didn't she say it was fixed?” 11:07:11 PM 9/20/01
