Cadillac Mtn.?
Can anyone recommend a trail or two in the vicinity of Cadillac Mountain in Maine? I'm going to be up that way for a wedding this weekend and I might be able to escape the festivities Friday afternoon for a dayhike.

RE: Cadillac Mtn.?
When I was in Acadia last March, I enjoyed just hiking along the cliffs, but it was the down season (brrr) and nobody else was really around. As far as trail names go, I am sorry I can't help.

Uphill Klimber and Twigeater are the experts up that way...maybe they are out there and will respond. hellooooo?

I imagine it will be beautiful with the Fall foliage and all...have a blast no matter where you end up.

Yaz... I've heard that the coast is fairly spectacular, but anyplace with trees rocks and dirt, and I'm a Happy Boy, you know.

And they don't necessarily have to have trees, *G*. I do prefer dirt to concrete, tho'...

RE: Cadillac Mtn.?
Hi Tilt. Hey there are any number of trails around Cadillac mtn. They are all pretty much interconnected. You can follow a guide book, or devise your own hike. I bought the book "A Walk In The Park" a spiral bound book. It's available in just about all the tourist traps for $10-12. It shows grades, viewpoints, water crossings, distance...

You can hike on the rocky cliffs, in the woods, over cliffs, meadows. My main reason to go there: The Bald mountains and unobstructed views. I tend to keep away from Cadillac, too many people and (gasp) a road to the top. Champlain Mt. is nice from the Tarn parking lot. When you get to the top, lots to see and a long ridge to walk. Sargent is really nice too. Choose your trail! Too many to pick from. For a quick look, pick up a park map. They have some main trails marked. And plenty of trail markers too. You can't get lost. (Just about)

Thanks Folks!

You know I'm never lost -- just temporarily misplaced every now and then, *G*.

I've also heard that Thunder Hole at high tide has a pretty high Wow Factor...

Best time to catch T-hole is 2-3 hours after low tide, with a storm out to sea. What do you think your chances are?

I don't know... it's on the list of things to see, if possible.

It looks like I'm going to need 2 or 3 weeks, not just one day! That's about standard, *G*. Maybe I can sneak out for a little while Saturday morning also...

RE: Cadillac Mtn.?
Acadia Nat'n'l Park ROCKS, if-ya-know-what-I-mean, *G*. I mean Lotsa rocks!

The leaf-peepers were out in droves, but I managed to avoid them, mostly.

I had a safe trip... except I kindof got the willies climbing around on those
cliffs over the ocean by Sand Beach on my 'day off' from the wedding routine. I looked Down and said to myself, "maybe I'm having just a little too much fun, here...", and turned uphill, found the trail and climbed over the hill for some Great Head, -ha-. When I got back to the inn, the headline from that morning's paper was "Man Rescued From Cliffs" (It was a CLUE, LOL).

The island was really spectacular--- and the leaves as I drove (*GAK*) up Cadillac were in full color (so they tell me, LOL.. I have this red/green
colorblindness, ya know).

Thunder Hole was thundering... Some. No offshore storms this trip.

All in all, it was a nice weekend. There weren't any major altercations between
former in-laws, ex-spouses, etc. No knock-down drag-outs; no broken glass, LOL!

What else? The Weasel is settling back into her routine... she was SO happy to be home. I think being at that kennel over the weekend freaked her
out Just a little. She was shaking like a leaf when I picked her up last night. All better now, though.

All in all, it was a great place to hang out. I'd go there again; I just wish it was Closer (recurring theme #1). Thanks again for the local insights.

I didn't have to dodge a single flying champagne flute! I guess they've mellowed a bit.

(and remember, leave the rocks for the next glacier...)
