Hey all. You guys (and gals) were nice company on what otherwise would have been a lonely cold rainy night. That was my first time up into the area. What a beautiful place. I'm definitely going to have to visit that area again. My Crusoe style hut proved to be quite dry. My hunting excursion on saturday didn't produce anything. I did, however have a run in with a coyote. It wandered into the clearing I was sitting and came within about 8 feet from me. That was wild!

I'd love to go out with you guys again if you don't mind. Have any other trips planned?

Special K - Some of us are planning to hike all or most of the West Rim Trail of the "Grand Canyon" October 19-21. You've got my email address - drop me a line and we can discuss details if you're interested. Glad to see you found the site. Welcome aboard.

Was the coyote carrying an ACME box and lookin' for a roadrunner?

Welcome, Mr.K!

Hi Karl, Glad you found this site. That sounds like a rare encounter with the coyote. All of them I ever saw seemed to leave the area in a hurry when they know humans are around. Just wondering if he just didn't see you because of stealth bow hunting or an aggressive encounter. Maybe we'll see you at the West Rim Trail.

Thanks, MSilver, those were really good pictures!

Hey, Special K, glad you found yourself a name and joined us here! I hope that we do lots of group hikes in the area, because I had a great time. The next one is Oct. 19-21 on the West Rim Trail (the west side of the Pine Creek gorge). I would also like to do the Old Loggers Path sometime.

Nice pics folks. Thank you for sharing them with us. I lived about 10 miles from there for a while when I was a child (4th & 5th grade). Good memories.

Buddur, I thought you already were the baking soda afficiondo? If that doesn't work, try fresh lemon or orange rind, close it and refrig for a week.

Lyndy,

Nice pics! Thanks for posting them. I think that first one could've also been titled: "Buddur with Tom's Socks in Back." Those socks were ubiquitous - they appear in my pic of Tom too.

m&m,

Thanks for posting your pics as well. I liked the second and last shots a lot (the ones of the gorge mists from Hemlock Mtn) - especially the vertical composition, which has a MYSTical, surrealistic effect.

RE: Black Forest Trail, PA
Yeah, if you've seen one vista, you've seen them all. But it was neat learning how to do PictureTrails. I hope to set one up just for my girl scout troop activities, if the parents give me permission.

I like the pictures of the people the best anyway. My picture of Buddur with Tom in the background really shows how friendly that golden retriever looks.
