Pop-ups suck

“Pop-ups suck & make a good website less enjoyable. I can not install a pop-up blocker in my browser either because we use pop-ups at work a lot. I wish web developers like Matt would find some other less annoying way to make money. The pop up?s on this site have helped discourage me from spending time here.”

“matt did explain why he had to add pop-ups and asked for suggestions on other ways to support this site in light of the collapse of the banner market.

Whatever he has to do to keep TT alive is OK by me.”

Just "x" them out or minimize them and move on. The time consumed is a fraction of a second.

We are enjoying a free ride on off the sweat of Matt's brow . . .a few pop ups hardly seems an inconvience.

We all (even MEL (now)) watch T.V. Clearly the 2, 3 and 4 minute commercial interuptions are a lot more invasive and disruptive.

What would make us think that we have any "right" to a pop-up free environment???

Why is this even an issue?

Matt stops being compensated for his efforts . . . and the economics of maintaining the site become less compelling.

“Popups take 1/4 of a second to close, gimmie a break people. As a Webmaster myself, I can tell you that it is not cheap to host this site, nor the time he has to take to monitor and keep the site updated. Popups pay more than banner ads, and that is just the price you pay for using Matt's site. It's not like he's charging you to use the site, just quit your whinnings and take that 1/4 second to close the ad. At least he's not slamming you with them, where when you close one, 3 otheres open, change your home page to some unknown search engine, and add links to your favorites. Now THAT is where I draw the line.”

I think the minor inconvenience of pop-ups is a more desirable option. If you have a better way for Matt to pay for space on a web server, please feel free to chime in with your suggestions.

Until someone comes up with a more workable solution, Matt has to keep the pop-ups to keep this site up and running.

“I just saw a sight that splashed an add on the screen before the page loaded up with the info I wanted. Then the add shrunk down to a noraml banner. I did not have to ckick anything to make the ad go away. This beats an anoying pop-up any day. It was MSN or MSNBC or NBC or somthing.”

If you want to temporarily disable the feature you need to click on the icon in the toolbar. Very effective and user friendly. And free.”

Cept now, somehow, this site won't let me launch another separate internet explorer page. When I try to open a separate page, the squasher shows that it squashed a pop-up but somehow keeps the new page from coming up.”
