whatch'all doin' this here weekend
I am dayhiking in the Marlette lake area. Not quite what I want, but I suppose I will get my outdoor fix.

I'm having a big sleep over w/ my mom, 2 sisters, my aunt, 3 cousins, and my daughter. Big gathering of the women of my family, it is alot of fun. This year we will have 2 forty-somethings, 3 twenty-somethings, 3 late teenies, and a 1 year old. Cool.

I am taking my best friend on a hiking trip for her birthday.
It should be fun. i havent even decided where I'm taking her yet. I'm leaning toward Manistee River trail though. She has only been backpacking a few times and it was always with a camp group, so I'm looking forward to showing her how to have some real fun! It should be sort of warm this weekend too so all in all I think it will be a good trip. I'll post a report and tell you all how it went.

Have fun, on the run LH... I'm jealous.

As for me, It's time to relax. I racked up about 130 km, on the trail, in the last eleven days.

skiracer, okay, there will be bikers with the bikes. That is how it's described as "bikes", because there are sometimes more that one biker on a bike, and there will be a lot of people there to check out the bikes.

You're a little devil. I hope your rotor cuff is all healed.

Cute story, I was talking to a female biker about my getting a bike with a bigger engine, and she was saying my bike is real nice for my size, and at least I wasn't riding in the b!tch seat.

I can only repeat that here since my other biker friends have their wives riding on back.

holy cow, there are over 100 bars in the Columbus area alone! What do people do there besides drink??

do you think I might find him at this one:
South Heidelburg
Seedy bar smack in the middle of the South Campus High School offers live strip. The quaint basement atmosphere is reminiscent of the days, but the music is more for Jerry's kids. Your name on the wall says it all.

(hey, I didn't write it)

Hi Biz, I've got a 535cc. The only reason for me to get a bigger bike is for long hwy drives, like over 5 hrs. I ride for over 5 hrs in a day, but not all on the hwy.

Hey, I can't believe you traveled all the way to the Olympics by yourself to do the hike this past weekend.

Biz-
Be careful in OSU campus bars, especially if it is a football weekend. They are pretty seedy places, filled with frat types. ugh, I spent my formative high school years in those places.

If you are going to be in Columbus--try Dick's Den, if you like dives, or most of the "short north" bars, a little bit more yuppie--but clean and nice.

LH- I was on the plane headed back to Phx yesterday and the guy sitting next to me (Seattlian) says 'why didn't you take the ferry across'... I drove 125 miles from Seattle to the Olympic Penninsula, took me 3 hours. Is it true I could have got there in 1.5 hrs taking the ferry across?

Where do you catch the ferry?

I may dayhike into Desolation. Gotta do an LA marathon (14 hour workday that is...) tommorrow, we'll see what I got left after that.

LH - you must hang out with some real sophisticated bikers or fancy bikes, down here they're referred to as b!tch "pads" and they really don't qualify as a "seat".

Dayhike Boundary Peak (highest peak in NV, 13,140', on the NV/CA border) with the club at work, then maybe drive to Telescope Death Valley, hike Telescope Peak (11,000'+) and meet up with the SoCal Hikers. Orig they were going to do the peak on Sun, so I wanted to do both. And no, I haven't had enough of the mountains

I really wish I was going hiking, not driving half way across the continent and then flying home. . It will be worth it if I get a bump and get a free SWA ticket though.. CAUSE that means I can go to TN in December (Towndawg's trip!!) Ü

i agree with bongo....steer clear of the campus area bars and try the short north, german village, or the brewery district....i used to drink at the south berg years and years ago....it was a dive then and i would assume that it is still a dive....but there are a LOT of nicer places to eat and drink in the columbus area....

It doesn't look like I'll get an overnighter unless I can get kicked out of the house. I need to scout the North Crest Trail in the Sandias from Tunnel Spring, maybe I can get a semi marathon day hike out of it. We are having great fall weather and the aspens are changing. I'd be going from pinon/juniper to aspen/doug fir/spruce.

A fomerly homeless dude who used to roam the streets of the town I live in is playing with a blues band in a bar in a little town near here. Can't miss that.

RE: whatch'all doin' this here weekend
Biz, There are a few ferries available along the Puget Sound that you can take to reach the Olympic Peninsula. It's 1hr and 45 minutes from Seattle to Port Angeles. The ferry crossing is 1/2 hr, which is included in that 1hr-45 minute ride.

There is a ferry schedule that you have to time your departure by. You may have to add another 20 minutes of waiting time for the ferry. Depending what time of the day you leave, if you get to the ferry too close to departure, you may not make that ferry and have to wait for the next one.

You can get the Seattle to Bainbridge ferry in Seattle or the Edmonds to Kingston in the
town of Edmonds, which is 15-20 minutes north of the Seattle ferry.

I don't think anyone thought to mention directions to you since you didn't ask, because everyone was busy seeing if they could make the trip, and everyone was arriving from different directions. strider doesn't use the ferries since he is on the Kitsap Peninsula, Tom & china chas are coming from Oregon, and bc trailguy was coming from B.C. I didn't think to tell you either since you didn't ask. I'm sorry. Ferry use isn't a big deal here, it isn't a second thought. Everyone uses it to get around. Well, at least you got to see more of the country :{}

Biz, I don't know why I think this, but Towndawg must have a big smile on his face hearing you say that you will be joining him.

lol, Rockbuck.
