Adrenaline Gene
I just got done reading an account of an Everest summit last year. A blind climber did it...

Do you believe there is such thing as an adrenaline gene, and if so do you have it?

RE: Adrenaline Gene
My exhusband DEFINETELY had the adrenaline gene (if there is such a thing). That guy was crazy. Always looking for a cheap thrill..

I'm pretty sure I don't have it. I do scary stuff sometimes, but I'm always scared when I do it. I always think about it a lot before I do it. I'm thinking about climbing really scary cliffs, skydiving, and stuff like that. I just can't look fear in the face and say 'LET ME HAVE IT'

RE: Adrenaline Gene
Intriguing question, Biz! My inclination is to say that some people are just born with a "need for speed" or some excitement of some kind.

I am very safety conscious, but I love big roller coaster, too. They rock.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
At what point does the adrenaline gene turn into the stupidity gene?

THis guy froze his nose and fingers off on Everet (btw, I'm not thinking of doing Everet-Rainier is a possibility though)

Used to ski race when I was younger. I have to admit, going 65 mph with your face 18 in. above the snow was quite a rush.

Biz, adrenaline doesn?t always turn into stupidity. Your usually born with that. The adrenaline thing fades slowly with age and you turn into juveniles. :)

RE: Adrenaline Gene
I used to have one of those, higher, harder, further, faster kindda life things going on.

You know it`s true,... you`re never as alive as you are when you can lose it all in the span of a moment. Many times I`ve found myself teetering on the edge of life, it could have gone either way. I was in love with the rush that near death has on me and I had to test it often, just to see if I could take it further and still walk away from it.

There`s a price that goes with all of that and at different times I was made to pay up in part. It didn`t kill me, but it took some skin, broken bones, lots of stitches, bad falls, being shot a few to many times, getting stabbed more than I should have, thrown countless times, being crushed and some bad wrecks to bring me back down.

I sometimes get to missing that old feeling, but my body just can`t take it like it once did!

I`m sure I`ll test it again one of these days, I sometimes do it, or get there even without trying to!LOL

So far, so good!

The impending doom of financial ruin gets my adrenalin going. So after I wipe off the cold sweat in the morning, I strap on the work boots, and head out to slay dragons.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
I got it. If there is such a thing. I go crazy when I have to live life normal. I prefer life when I have no clue what is going to happen next. I like to be extreme and do crazy wild stuff. And yes bigfoot I to have many marks to show it, but I will stay young for as long as I can.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
Adventuregirl, I do believe you know what I was talking about and have shared some of my same views on it. It`s not trying to kill yourself, it`s just living each moment as large as you can, while you can. My time has passed for most of that wild and crazy way of life now, but I`ll always remember it and have a twinge of it strike me now and again. I don`t have anything left to prove, not even to myself, I`m past that. I guess we do grow out of it as time goes on and we know better our reach and the grasp of things. I no longer have to touch a thing to have it touch me.

Nothing is for nothing and there`s a lesson in all things great, or small, it`s all in how you look at it, or how it comes to effect you then, or later on. I have walked away from a thing and thought I saw it for what it was, only later did I come to know it for what it was and for what I lacked in me for being a slow student of life.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
I used to be an adrenaline junkie. But, too many trip to the hospital, and too much time spent in casts and on crutches cured that. I miss the days when I could go after any challenge, and damn the torpedos. I was immortal.
Like Adventure Girl, I will go nuts if things become too routine. I'm still out to prove things to myself, and for myself. Only this time I go prepared. No more hospitals.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
Let's talk about adrenaline USE and ABUSE! The adrenaline dosen't make you do crazy things; that's a behavioral choice. I remember having huge adrenaline rushes lining up at the start of our college cross country meets. I'd look down the line and see a hundred pairs of legs and lungs ready to run me into the ground, and I knew I was going to experience pain at some point. It was a huge rush! But, it served a purpose; mainly to not get run over- fight or flight. We just don't have to worry about getting eaten by something like our ancestors did. I've never chose to jump off something to get the big adrenaline jolt.

RE: Adrenaline Gene
good point Aero. There's some meetings I go to at work where i think HOLY CRAP THIS IS SCARY! (I'm supposed to know something and be an adult here).

Maybe I am an adrenaline junky Ü

I think the difference between adrenaline junkies and regular people is adrenaline junkies put themselves in new and interesting places, instead of always doing the same old things.

adventuregirl- I like your style
