amen to that!!
it is even challenging just to keep up with him in a listening capacity....staggers the imagination to comprehend how he can play that way!!

No mention of Kenny Wayne Shepherd? I think he's well on his way to being one of the legends.

toejam, you should take another listen to Steve Howe. As far as talented guitarists go, he is among the best.

Rising to fill in Bonnie Raitt's blues-rock woman shoes: Shannon Curfman, a "neighbor" of Johnny Lang. Something in the Fargo water apparently.

OM -

Making Movies has to be one of my favorite albums. Have you seen the movie "cal" . . depressing irish thing . . .but GREAT soudntrack. I have his stuff with Chet Atkins . . . his latest albumn, Sailing to Philadelphia is fantastic as well . . .the title duet with JT is awesome.

Speaking of Emmy Lou Harris (we were speaking of her weren't we) . . .for a few months this past winter I had Red Dirt Girl and Sailing to Philly both in the cd changer . .

Hey Tom T., I got to see Shannon Curfman at Summerfest in Milwaukee in 2000, and she was everything live that she is on disc. Incredible voice and hot licks for her age -- let's hope the future sees her get even better.

RE: favorite guitarists
Since I got a Telecaster the Stratocaster has been gittin' lonely.

There is just SOMETHING about that primitive "slab o' wood".............

Well, I did "Tex" it with a Strat pickup in the neck position and "hot" p u at the bridge~@%^>

I liked Hagar before he joined Van Halen. Together they just plain stunk. Their music just kinda laid there. Nothing, Absolutly nothing.

Oh Yeah, Susan Tedeschi DOES rock!
So does Diana Krall, But she's not a guitar girl.

And Mark Knopfler, KIng of the finger pickers (sorry, Chet)

And speaking of guitars, can't leave out Gibson and the Les Paul line, favorites of the cool set everywhere. And Paul Reed Smith, Instrument maker extrordinaire.

RE: favorite guitarists
Huh, I must be the odd man out here cause I loved Van Hagar. The old DLR stuff was so worn out and old. Eruption could barely even raise my blood pressure any more. Sammy brought something DLR never had and that was the ability to actually write.

Sammy's Marching to Mars was a great CD. If you ever get to see him live jump at it. He is great live.

RE: favorite guitarists
I dug the raw energy of the Van Halen I and II eforts. The Van Hagar days were also musically productive, cause like Mr.Nigal said..."Sammy could write" (and sing), it's just that it was more lovey dovey music. But killer, none the less. The chemistry between Sammy and Eddie was exponentiallly greater than if they were both solo...like maaany other duos in musical history.
