I dig the (?GAP?) commercial where some chick is wailing out an AC/DC tune, then stops and says "My first love was Angus young!"

How 'bout dis list!

RE: favorite guitarists
I was always a bassist in the bands i played in growing up, so I tended to notice bass players more.. but you guys have named off every guitar I would have mentioned.

Was John MacLaughlin in there somewhere?

If I had to pick ONE.. and only one guitarist.. Beck's Blow By Blow work with George Martin as engineer is about as good as it gets.

RE: favorite guitarists
How 'bout dat list? Well...let's just say that my mileage varies. ;-) IMESOWIDEATS*, it gives way too much space to a lot of heavy metal morons, downplays the contributions of greats like Dale and Wray, and (worst of all) doesn't even mention Tom Verlaine. On the other hand, it does mention two that I didn't think of: Johnny Marr and Ry Cooder.

*In my extremely subjective opinion which I don't expect anyone to share

RE: favorite guitarists
Glad someone brought up Angus Young, and he makes quite a guitar duo with his brother when AC/DC bangs it out. For some reason, there was a time after we moved to northern Wisconsin when all the jukeboxes in the taverns seemed to have one AC/DC disc on them, amidst about 1,000 country-western tunes. For fun, I'd slip in a quarter and drop "Back in Black" in amongst the twangers and watch the bar talk come to a screechin' halt. Love the crunch of a good power chord, LOL.

I think they do. Here's a vid of the amazing Paul Gilbert (perhaps the fastest guitarist on earth) playing some.

Two years ago I saw Dick Dale and his then twelve year old son at my university......five minute walk from home.

That old geezer(67) kicked ass as did his kid.
They were sitting in chairs with plugged-in acoustics.

The kid was with him note for note......and that S.O.B. plays a lot of notes.

Even without a band Dale's surf rock makes a non-dancing guy like me want to jump up and shake a tail feather.....very percussive!!

Probably one of the most under rated and unheard of guitarists is Devin Townsend from Straping Young Lad. He plays everything from speed metal to prog. Here's a cool song from his latest CD. Not only is he good but he's got a great sense of humor.
