White Water Rafting
Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knows of any white water rafting groups in the New England area (Conn, Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine.) My husband and I would like to plan a trip for April of 2002. Thanks!

Oh, by the way, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to everyone. I am new to thebackpacker.com. My husband (RavenSeer) and I met Sir Pete and Walkindude on our backpacking trip through the White Mountains of New Hampshire and they were nice enough to give us the address for this wonderful website.

RE: White Water Rafting
MystyPines, a couple places to start:

go to:
www.gorp.com
click on activities, then on paddling, then on the Find a Club listing. It lets you search by state. Under Mass., it had a number of clubs, including several chapters of the Appalachian Mountains Club, which do whitewater rafting.

Also try the Northeast Paddlers Message Board at:
www.npmb.com

Also check at outfitters that serve the region. REI, EMS, etc. should know of clubs. Outing clubs at universities in the region should be helpful, too.

Thanks Peka and Lee! I checked out the websites and they look pretty good! I hoping to do a 2 or 3 day package with tent camping. Thanks again!

You could design your own. The place that I gave the website for is just spitting distance from the entrance to Baxter State Park.

The day before we rafted, my friend and I had spent a couple of days in Baxter.

1st night Chimney Pond
2nd day over Pamola and the knife's edge, down to roaring brook.
2nd night at Roaring brook

3rd day White water rafting
3rd night at Roaring brook.

*Baxter is worth doing. See the thread from Twigeater RE: the adventures with Jerbear

** See her pictures

***MOVE EARLY IN JANUARY. TO get the dates you want, at the locations you want, get intothe reservations process with Baxter EARLY in the New Year.

The combination of awesome hiking, mooose sightings, and white water rafting, so close in proximty is just great.

HIt up Twigeater for more hiking ideas beyond the obvious Kathadin one.

RE: White Water Rafting
Come to the Northwoods in the spring and visit the Wolf, Peshtigo, and many other famed WW rivers. Outfitters and various clubs are available. Just don't expect both high water and warm water, LOL. Only one or the other per customer.
