RE: Personality
It varies...
I do like to get where I'm going so I can drop the pack and chill. But sometimes I wander soaking in the views. And switchbacks do make me dizzy sometimes. :)

Pretty much a fritzoid on the way to the trailhead, then a switchback for the sake of a buzz, after which I tend be a wanderer, until I say screw it and just sit down wherever I am OMmmmmm.

RE: Personality
I go with the flow. I didn't realize this until attempting my first solo backpacking trip. I never plan anything! Heck, I hardly know how to read a map!

I am a total follower.

RE: Personality
I like the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) Long, steady hikes. Fast, but slow enough to talk. Avoid anal-retentive types; I work with enough of those!

RE: Personality
similar to rockbuck. i am usually very anxious to get to the trailhead. especially when there is a several hour drive to get there. once i'm there, i am much more laid back. like to get to the camp area as early as possible so i can hang out and relax. but not so early that i need to run to get there! i enjoy several breaks along the way.

I guess I am a whiner especially when my husband (RavenSeer) miscalculates the hike, nightfall is upon us, we are out of water and miles and miles away from any civilization!

I'm pretty laid back. I plan outings with highlights (places/things to see) but how, when and if we get to them all doesn't worry me.

Hi MystyPines, welcome aboard.

RE: Personality
I'm flexible and relaxed. I make sure everything is in order before I go on the hike so I can just enjoy being outside. Of course, weather can always change plans. I become concerned when a real sh!tstorm unleashes its fury but I still know what to do.

When I get to hike for myself. . .
. . . . alone, hard and fast. Music in my head.

With a group. I love the company of easy going people who like good conversation and a little wine - no egos. I go with the flow - whatever is best for the group.

RE: Personality
I like to plan a lot before the hike. To me, it adds a few days of excitement to the whole adventure.
On the trail, I hike fairly fast and enjoy spending most of the day on the trail, exploring at camp, and back to hiking the next day. Some places call for base camping for an extra day though. That is fun too, allowing for a few side trips or a lazy day in the meadows, or by the lake or river.

RE: Personality
I'm a wanna-be-hiker. I'm the one sitting on my front steps at night staring up at the stars, wishing I was on the trail. Let's see... August weekend canceled due to three kids on antibiotics. September weekend canceled due to no day care. October 2, solo moonlit hike canceled due to rain and broken finger. I know a broken finger is no big deal but I had just smashed it and because the bone was exposed, I've had to keep it bandaged and take mega doses of antibiotics to prevent bone infection. Dontchaya just love run-on sentences? :o)

RE: Personality
Put it in cruise and let the truck get me there. I make plans for the trip only if others go. Solo trips, I decide where to go when I get the permit. Like to keep a good pace, don't like to stop a lot, except for photos. Pretty relaxed outdoors. Try not to whine since I usually hike with guys. But I like to get in early enuf to wash my hair and rinse the sweat off. Don't have to think about packing, cuz everything is there from the weekend before. Just have to add food & clean clothes.

I'm a nymph, I live in the mountains, forest & water (well, at least on the weekends). And that's not nymph-o (look it up). DMV wouldn't give me the license plate I wanted the first time, so I reapplied, changed a few letters and got it.
