Helllllll-oooooooo, Osama, how are YOU today?
I just love your fashion sense, ya fudge-packer!

I have not heard any liberals or Democrats WISHING that Gore won the election......................................................................................................................because he DID win the election!

I can't think of a more worthy opponent for O-Slamma Big Llama than "Curious" George Bush.

I think its a valid point that the loyal opposition has pretty much left Bush to his own devices.

It is equally valid to assume that, had Gore gotten into the White House(he did after all WIN), the minions of the Right would be on his A$$ like stank on sh!t and blaming HIM for this sorry incident.

RE: The Clinton Presidency and the WTC
my previous point is self-evident, in this time of tragedy, it's counterproductive to blame clinton or anyone else; we should concentrate on recovery and healing. i'm hardly a clinton apologist, he's a moral quagmire, but he did have successes in his presidency. i feel he is not to blame for WTC; he authorized, secretly, the assassination of bin ladin, he authorized the training of pakistanis to track him down, pres. gen. musharraf dissallowed cooperation or airspace. clinton was left with no choice but to lob some cruise missles. The world, or the US, did not get mad enough when our embassies and the Cole were bombed to create an international coalition to combat terrorism a few years ago. clinton would've done more if he could.
ultimately, the only people to blame are the terrorists- to put blame on presidents, cia or fbi is incredulous and delusive. now, let's talk about hiking.

IIRC, what happened was the operation was set to go and then suddenly the president of Pakistan gets overthrown in a coup. (Bonus points to Clinton-haters who can make the coup part of the vast Clintonian conspiracy.)

RE: The Clinton Presidency and the WTC
my facts are right, as reported by newsweek and the nyt (sorry for omitting the previous pakistani prime minister was overthrown, regardless, clinton couldn't get approval for any operation) none of us know all of the facts or circumstances, so why pass blame? let's be objective and fair. bacpac, your dislike for clinton may be understandable, but to insinuate that clinton is to blame for the attacks is unreasonable. ps- does anyone know any good trails in the catskills?

RE: The Clinton Presidency and the WTC
From Newsweek:

In 1998, President Clinton signed a ?lethal finding,? in effect holding the CIA harmless if bin Laden was killed in a covert operation. The agency tried for at least two years to hunt down bin Laden, working with Afghan rebels opposed to the Taliban regime.

And, even though you asked, here's an excerpt from a 10/3/01 AP article referring to the effect of the coup in Pakistan:

As part of U.S. efforts to hunt down bin Laden in the interim, the CIA (news - web sites) is said to have secretly trained about 60 Pakistani intelligence officers to capture him in 1999.

The operation is understood to have been arranged by Pakistan's then-prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, and the Clinton administration.

In turn, the United States promised to lift sanctions on Pakistan and provide an economic aid package.

The plan was set in motion less than 12 months after U.S. cruise missile strikes against bin Laden's training camps in Afghanistan. Clinton administration officials believe the attacks narrowly missed hitting bin Laden.

The Pakistani commando team reportedly was up and running and ready to strike by October 1999 but was shut down by Gen. Pervez Musharraf after he deposed Sharif in a coup that month.

The former U.S. government official said Musharraf was cooperative with the United States in other ways, however, turning over to American custody several key bin Laden operatives.

So what are the sources for your contention that these reports are incorrect?

RE: The Clinton Presidency and the WTC
A lethal finding? Am I supposed to conclude a 'lethal finding' translates to assasination authorization? Sorry, I don't.

I guess you could not find a note from Hillary to support the 'he wasn't authorized' claim. I guess she authorized sending cruise missles.

I posted my source on this web site a full week before the newsweek story broke. The newsweek story confirmed what my source said about Clinton knowing where Bin Laden was.

Clinton defenders know no boundries.
