You're right. My apologies for the "boring" part. Chicago was quite cutting edge back in the day. I STILL have the first 6 or 7 albums on vinyl and have (had) been known to pull out my horn and match those guys note for note...

I am one of the folks who began frequenting this forum several years ago. I still pop in occasionally, and am now more of a lurker rather than a poster. I return because there are always intereting nuggets to be found in the gravel. Add that to the group of truly interesting and informative characters that can be found here, and it's worth weeding thru the BS threads, and worth tolerating thread degradation on those topics that are of interest.

In other words, it seems to me that TT reflects most other forums that cater to casual social human interaction. The conventions of the medium conceal barely controlled anarchy, spiced with wierd humor, and are more or less framed by a general topic of the moment (backpacking) serving as a starting point for discussions.

It's a crowded, noisy room, full of all kinds of critters. Pick your conversations, start new ones, and hang on for the ride. There's cool people here worth getting to know. Relax and have fun.... and simply ignore the posts that don't touch on what interests you. You might be surprised at some of the threads that draw your interest.”
