To be honest the auzzies will lay into anyone, you ought to see the stick every pom that goes out there gets - but you just gotta learn to give it back to them. It's done with all the sporting teams too. They do it to each other too. It's part of the culture to banter with each other.

My sister in law's dad is that way Y2. I can't remember what part of England he's from but he is a real spunk monkey and is disrespectful at every opportunity. Everyone says, "That's just Pete.". But when someone does stand up to him and tells him what a dick he's being he spends the rest of the evening sulking in the corner. LOL! He's easy to shame. When ever he gets out of line I go all literal on him; "Why would you say something like that to me Pete? Don't you like me? Then why would you purposely say hurtful things to me? I would never want to think I hurt your feelings that way.". Works every time.

To be honest, an guy who can't stand being called Septic shouldn't really be leaving his home town, let alone going half way around the world.

Yeah, banter is more common in other parts of the world Nigal, that's for sure.

We had a first sergeant in the Philippines who went somewhere TDY. He was housed in a barracks with Aussies in the rooms above him, and they were raising hell one night.

The first shirt went upstairs, opened the door to their room and said, "I'm First Sergeant ----- of the United States Army and you guys need to quiet down!"

The picked him up, took him out to the balcony, and threw him over the side. He landed in a bush below, luckily for him.

We always loved that story.

Bear, in the 1980's when we were being told how much the WORLD HATED America I traveled extensivly from South East Asia to East Berlin. As a rule I found most people really appreciated America. In France I ran into my only opposition. In Paris they treated us like crap...but in the little villages...there was a statue to American soldiers who freed their village.

I wonder how much of what we see is the Media (who hates us for not electing who they have been selling for the past 40 or so years) just Bullshirting us. I have a very good friend who has hated each time he is home from Iraq. He says the media is spreading crap about the war.

NONE, NONE, NONE
LOL I love the double standard. Kinda like when a looney leftist makes a racist statement it is free speech.
A Conservative does the same thing...BOOM take em out.

Sorry Bear but I saw the same stuff in the 1980's. The Socialist/Communists would go bananas when we took a direct action, but when they did something they got a free walk.

CHANT: WE'RE NUMBER 13! WE'RE NUMBER 13!
The world’s best country

Laza Kekic
From The World in 2005 print edition

Why Irish eyes are smiling

Where will be the best place to live in 2005? The World in 2005 turned to the Economist Intelligence Unit, which has devised a 2005 “quality of life” index for 111 countries. Result: Ireland comfortably tops the league. America, though the second-richest country (behind Luxembourg) in GDP per head, slips to 13th in quality of life. Britain languishes in 29th place.

It has long been accepted that material well-being alone does not adequately measure quality of life. Money matters, of course, but surveys suggest that over the decades big increases in income have translated into only a modest rise in satisfaction. Although rising incomes and expanded individual choice are highly valued, some of the factors associated with modernisation—such as the breakdown of traditional institutions and the erosion of family values—in part offset its positive impact.

Ireland has a 12% corporate (fed?) tax, a 20-42% individual tax, and then a 21% vat tax. They are getting fukced bad. We in the US have 35% fed, and 0-35% indi with no vat tax. We are still higher than many countries.

Comparing tax rates is like comparing apples and beer cans . Read the IRS tax code to learn that tax rate means little to the bottom line. As I best remember , the comparison above was taken from a Rand Corp. study that tried to compare bottom lines. I did try to find that study , but could not, sorry.

I am curious why conservatives don't run campaigns against the federal reserve.

We've just spent the last three years with a semi-governmental agency raising rates and raising rates.

The idea is/was that too much money in the economy would create rapid growth and inflation.

The goal is/was a soft landing.

The same thing could have been accomplished had Bush raised a selected tax or two. Money would have been taken out of the economy. Price pressure would have decreased. Shazzam - Soft Landing.

Which is better? Paying off the national debt or padding Asian bondholder's returns?

Why do they hate us?
Because we elect people like U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris.

Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and gay marriage.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

So God is to blame for all them dangling chads? She is dang near as loony now as she was when she bungled the 2000 presidential recount.

I think this says the whole thing about the way you win wars.

.... You ask, What is our policy? I will say; "It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy." You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory - victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.
Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965), 1940, in his first address as the newly appointed Prime Minister.

Oh and P.S. we won that one. The Germans did not like us, the Japanese did not like us, the Italians did not like us (until they surrendered and found out the Nazis were going to kill them, the French did not like us until we freed them. BUT WE WON.

XL, then why don't the Bush Republicans actually try to win a war for once?

They didn't send enough troops into Iraq at the the beginning of the war. There aren't sufficient troops to fight the war today. We don't have enough money to keep our equipment in fighting shape.

The Bush Republicans encouraged Israel to fight a war against Hezbollah and then cut them off at the knees when it took more than two weeks to fight the war.

It's the worst of both worlds. The Republicans don't believe in negotiation. But they're a bunch of ninnies when it comes to using force.

Fight the damned war.

yes there is a difference. Had the media behaved in World War II like they are now...I doubt if there would have been a major media.
Secondly we are starting to once again second guess the generals. Bush is slowly slipping into the loser status of allowing the FEEL GOOD BLEEDING HEARTS to run the war. Screw the enemy. You get hit in Najif, you go in one time to calm the scene. You let the citizens know, "If we leave, the city gets leveled. You lose another soldier. Back up to the perimeter and shell and carpet bomb it into dust.
But today you would have the human shields (RE USEFUL IDIOTS) and crying media screaming about atrocities.
A few months ago I had an incident where a staffer was expecting a potentially violent client. She called me I went down to the lobby to get the parameters straight.
This is a new girl straight from Social Worker school. She told me," I want you to stand there, but don't intervene. If she wants to show out let her, you are not to say or do anything to stop her."
I looked at her, nodded, turned around and went back to my office. I stopped at the twits supervisor's office and explained that when I am asked to "protect" staff it is not for the staff to tell me how to do my job.
The supervisor is pretty cool, she is a former soldier and knows what my job entails. OH the violent subject came in, went nuts, threw stuff all over the lobby and busted up some stuff. I was never called. (LOL) the whole time the Social Worker was yelling, "Ms.(name) I hear your anger." (LOL)

It's very true that the media went along with whatever the military wanted in WWII, be it real news or propaganda. That's not the case today, and likely why this Administration paid several commentators to support its policies in the media.

I'm not sure what the rest of your diatribe has to do with the subject, but I'm sure if you had your way, the violent subject would get his a$s carpetbombed into dust. (LOL)

Actually Kleetn SHE would have been detained, placed in a Sheriff Office Vehicle, transported to the Detention center (as I have done it before). The damage would have been a fraction of what the taxpayer had to cover. The next time someone came in to make a scene they probably would be reminded we do not fool around.
You know when I hear the Libbie academics talk about how to solve inner city crime etc, with the feel good crap. I keep remembering Charleston in the 1980's. They tried that and ...it FAILED. so they hired this guy named Reuben Greenburg. Black Cop, checkered history. In 1983 the crime rate had dropped so much he was paid BIG BUCKS to teach other cities how to do it.

HERE IS THE SECRET. Bust em, thats it, find em, harass em (park squad cars in the hot areas) arrest them, make life hell for them.
We saw where domestics were the top cause of injury to cops. So you would go, warn em once to be quiet. Then lock em all up, Momma, Daddy, the kids the grandparents...if you were there you were going to jail.
BAM. the families caught on, cops stopped being hurt.

Actually MarkO in the early 1970's when we started the carpet bombing, Battleship attacks and direct bombing of North Vietnam was the Reason the NVA came to the peace talks. We only failed by not enforcing the treaty.
I wonder what would have happened if we had someone other than the BlueBlood Ford in the White House who decided to level Hanoi. Say a couple of days after the invasion of South Vietnam, you turn Haipon and Hanoi into smoking holes...ala Hiroshima, and Nagasaki?

Should we rehash, that 1.Iraq has been shown as complicit (9/11 hearings) 2. Iraq had violated at least 5 UN resolutions which had the order to enforce the resolution with Military action. 3.
