hahahaha...too funny. I am planning to go to a very nice, big new spa/pool/wellnes temple on Sunday. Send my friend a text message to tell her when we're going, but instead I send it to one of my co-workers, who has a very similar name. Well, I was watching tv while writing and sending the text. Sometimes multitasking is not a good idea :-) He must have been pretty surprised to get a SMS from me inviting him to the pool. Ouuh la la, don't think his girlfriend approved of it.

Totally unexpected, rather late on Friday night, I got a last minute invitation from a friend, for a day hike on Saturday. I was happy for the invitation, but didn't expect much from the hike itself, but then it turned out to become a wonderfull hike, no, actually it was awesome. The weather was perfect, the temperatur, the air, the light, the early autumn colours and the view. The mountains, despite I have been in this alpine range many times before, but yesterday it was just specteculare. Above all it was just wonderfull to have someone to share all this experience with.
Every year, only once or twice, this friend invites me on a hike. When it comes to hiking in high alpine area I totally trust him and his experience. I often felt scared, because he takes me on hikes I wouldn't go myslef, but never unsafe wherever I was with him. I have been hiking with many people and met a lot I can definitly say I am not interested to hike with them again.

Look at those pictures. Say, isn't that beautifull?

That's the mountain we hiked up. Sidelhorn.

That's the view from Sidelhorn.

Another view from Sidelhorn :-)

HMmm --- that looks like a valley that Used to have a glacier in it.

That grey stuff, in the middle of that valley, starting somewhat behind the lake, IS the galcier. The rest of it.
This is one of the first hikes I did when I moved to this country, some 7 years ago. On another hike, I walked across that glacier, to reach a hut. The glacier is almost completly covered with rock and gravel. It was pretty scary to walk across it and hear strange sounds below my feet, water running and gurgeling. A fantastic hike.
I remember how that glacier looked 7 years ago and today. Even I can see the differences. The same with other glaciers.

;-)

OHHhhh.... now I see. Yaknow, that's the thing about Nature.... It's kind of dusty and unkempt. It could use a good vacuuming sometimes.

So you can really tell where the glacier has 'retreated' back up the valley? (as they say)   You guys haven't found any more 'ice men' thawing out up there, have you?

Over here that would be an idea for an insurance commercial ----

ouuch...
After the long and wonderful hike on Saturday my muscels and knees hurt me quite a bit. Therefore, on Sunday morning, I decided that a a visit in the big new spa BernAqua would be the best cure for it. A couple of hours in warm water, sauna and fun slides. Relaxing and fun. Just what I needed. What I didn't needed though was the big bruise on my bum, when I came down the Wildewater Canyon slide :-)

Weekend, hello!

I am going to stay at home. I still have a lot of stuff lying around on the floor: two piles of cloth, waiting for the washing machine, bags and packs, thermarests and what not outdoor gear.
Other than cleaning up my flat, Saturday and Sunday are pretty much reserved for studying, going through the notes and course papers.

Welding 101...bought the new welder, gonna put it through it's paces and see where it's limits lie.....

Then I'm going to the Range to put 500 rounds through the 7.62....

Sunday evening, a paddle on the lake....

Have fun with the first 2, Supertroll! :)

I'm hitting the farmer's market tomorrow morning too, with Laurel in tow. She wants a goodie from a local baker; they make these little pies with local dried fruit in them. They aren't cheap, but dayum, they're good. Especially the peach and blueberry ones. I have a lot more garden prep work to do, plus figure out where Laurel's own little garden will be.

One of the things I picked up from a seed supplier was a pack of "sun-forest" mix sunflowers; basically any sunflower over 10 feet tall. I'd love to dig up most of the back yard to put these thing in. Maybe I can convince HPM to let me do that, since it means less mowing for him. :D

My day lilies are already starting to pop up! What the heck?!

This weekend was kind of weird. It left me with some mixed feelings.

It was a good start on Friday. I even got a date fixed for Saturday evening. Saturday morning I did my regulare shopping and then spent the afternoon doing some long over-due houshold cleaning.
Sunday I had planned for learning. Instead I finished some other tasks, rather trivial stuff, but it had been bugging me for weeks. The sort of stuff I always found a reason to delay for another time. So, bad I dropped the learning, but good I good some other stuff finaly sorted and off my back.
Then I sat down and cleaned my computers hard drive, mainly sorting through hundreds of photos that were randomly stored in folders and loaded them on an external drive. Took me much longer than I expected. I came across photos I haven't looked at for years. I saw faces I haven't seen in a long time ...and back came the memories. I even felt a brief moment of overwhelming feelings coming up, but I quickly bundled those feelings up and shove 'em deep down into the hard drive.
It left me feeling sad for a little while though.

Does anybody know how save digital data is on an external hard drive? I mean age related data loss or so. Paper yellows over the years. Is there something similar with digital data? Does anybody know?
