Coming Out Week

“When I arrived on campus this morning "Coming Out Week" was chalked here and there on the walkways.
There were the appropriate male-male and female-female symbols, etc.

“I think it is a wonderful sign of our advancement as an open and tolerant society that college students feel comfortable enough to freely express their sexuality, even if for just a week. When I started college in 1973 this would have never happened.

I remember one of the most couragous acts I ever saw was when one of my arch. school classmates once told us all that he was gay. Some people couldn't deal with it, and he lost a few friends. The rest of us, certainly this was true for me, chose to confront our limiting beliefs and were able to grow as human beings and learned to accept our friend for who he was without consideration of his sexual preferences.

Since then my wife and I have had many gay friends, and unfortunately have had to watch most of them die due to the excesses of the 80's. We are still reeling from the loss of Susan's best friend in the world who died just last year.

Life is way too short for hate-monger bigotry and prejudice. We should embrace who we are, and accept others for who they are.
