Thanks Tarpy, Buddha
A person gets on here today to see two backpackers of radically different viewpoints say they are leaving TT.

I wish they'd stay. Both have had interesting things to say and wisdom to offer here. Hehee..... a bit of sarcasm and humor, too. Even backpacking information!!!!

However, I don't think it's a reason for everyone to go nuts and talk of revamping the TT format.

As they say at the newspaper -- when we get ripped from both the liberals and the fundamentalists for the SAME article -- you know you're doing something right, because it was not slanted to either side.

My two cents......... again, why not stay?

This rich. So we are all offending Tarpy?s decent sense of humanity? How man times have we heard Tarpy going on about his beloved Berretta .25 and how he?d cap someone?s a@@ on the trail and blah blah blah? Tarpy?s pattern for disrespect (as well as hateful posts) nullifies any claim he has to this high road he claims to have taken. We can all claim that no one knows us deep down in side but the fruits we display for the world to see tell the true tail. A person?s worth in any social circle is defined by the worth of their content.

I wish you all best Tarpy but as the song goes ??it?s time for everyone to clean up his own back yard before they go knockin? on there neighbors door.?

And Buddha is fed up with the ignorance of the site? The man who shows open hate and contempt for an entire nation of people for no other reason than who they are? I may sound harsh but, I don?t get it.

Maybe Buddha will be like Michael Jordan and leave three times. Why don't you come back as BeLikeMike or something, Buddha?

I missed Tarp Rat's farewell.
What's the title?

He's probably the coolest dude on this sorry site.

on one of the concert threads someone mentioned Laurie Anderson. She is a performance artist. Have seen her twice, once in London, once at Brooklyn Academy of Music.

The song (like a lot of her stuff) it best understood when stoned. When you can "see" the words and music together.

In any event.

Some of the best best break up lines I've ever read. I can see them written in a card, the PS as sort of an afterthought. HOw to break up with someone "I feel like I'm in a burning building, and I've gotta go":

From Let X=X:

I got this postcard. And it read, it said: Dear Amigo - Dear Partner. Listen, uh - I just want to say thanks. So...thanks. Thanks for all the presents. Thanks for introducing me to the Chief. Thanks for putting on the feedbag. Thanks for going all out. Thanks for showing me your Swiss Army knife. and uh - Thanks for letting me autograph your cast. Hug and kisses. XXXXOOOO. Oh yeah, P.S. I - feel - feel like - I am - in a burning building - and I gotta go. Cause I - I feel - feel like - I am - in a burning building - and I gotta go.

It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that X = X.

(It's a good day when I get some use from that Mathematics Minor.)

Tarp will go the way of Gentle Ben. A legend that will not be forgotten. That is, if he is really gone. (I doubt it.)
BB will lurk in our minds for a short while, but there will be others who will spout vitriol and make us forget him. (He is reading this, don't you think?)

Most definitely, chili. If you left, and posted a farwell to everyone, wouldn't you lurk to see what folks said about you? I would.

Lee, here is the mathematical formula you were looking for:

It took a team of mathematicians years to discover what we already knew.

Kleetn, I am not sure that I agree, but I have to admit, that is one hell of a logic you have going there.

Lee, I saw Laurie Anderson in concert here in Atlanta back in the 80's. She was great! I first heard of her when a copy of Let x=x was included in an issue of Artforum magazine. She is definitely easier to "get" when you see her in person.
