So far everyone I have met on the trail was really nice.”

“Do you mean odd (as in weird) or are you refering to something else? The very, very old naked guy at the hotsprings on my first trip was odd.”

“Two crazy indians (sorry, I know this is un PC) chased us on an indian res in N. Arizona (they had a truck, we were walking). As they threw empty beer cans at us I think they were cursing 'give us a six pack of beer...or the girl'”

Not on the trail, per se, but we met this guy at a trailhead once. He was dressed in camouflage with a shaved head, combat boots, a big knife and the biggest damn Doberman I ever saw. He was heading down into Linville Gorge -- going to "run down to the river and back in about an hour".

I didn't feel it was my job to remind him that dogs weren't allowed down there.

He seemed a little jumpy --- and we trucked on outta there.”

“Hmmm, odd..... I'd say there are always some odd ones... And fortunately we can out walk them or tell them they have to go. But in the wilderness there is not near as many as in the cities of So Calif.
The few in the mountains seem sane in comparison.”
