Read the writings of the al qaeda. Look at their stated long term goals, namely the world-wide spread of their brand of fundamentalism. They state up-front they do not care how many innocent people must die to further their cause. The Taliban has admitted they want to control Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. That will give them control of 1/4 of the world's oil supply and a nuclear weapon. They then publicly said they will use the oil and the bomb against the West.
