HELP w 4 season tents

“My MK1 Lite won't ship until the 12th (maybe). :( It's out of stock at Backcountrygear.com. They didn't even let me know. When I didn't get an email with tracking information, I called them and they told me they think they'll have some in on the 12th.

“They do look interesting and if the exchange rate was favorable it might be worth a shot. My personal pref would still be an ID or Bibler though - so much tent in such a light package.”

“I FINALLY broke down & committed...after a TON of research, a LOT of feedback from others (thanks everyone), and after having personally checked out everyone's tent I could over the last couple months, I finally broke down & bought a Bibler I Tent.

Compelling Reasons: weight(1) and freestanding (2).
Other considerations: I like putting it up while inside, I think I'll like that even more during first big rain/hail storm.

Justification for the $$: How often will I buy a 4 season tent? How would I like to be in nowhereland in February & have it blown apart?”

“When is the 4th season?? Last week it was the 4th season and it was hotter then the 2nd season, or would it be the 3rd season. Who says that the 4th season is winter, most people don't camp during the summer because its too hot. So wouldn't the 4th season then be summer?”

“after reading this thread, i got a real kick out of the last 2 messages about telling the spouse. Been there done that. and don't have to worry about that anymore, I purchased a new back pack instead of a cap for a new root canal. That shows ya where my priorities are. I have a MH Nightshade, purchased on impulse last year at REI. great tent, kept me high and dry during Hurricane Gordon last October in the Glades, 85mph winds and TORRENTIAL rains for 3 days, not a drop inside. My camping partner can't say the same for his bo bo brand tent. He wound up moving in with me. I never had to guy it out, it took all that gordon could dish out. The rangers thought we were nuts....and he was right.”

“Thought I'd bring this thread back up for an additional gear report. Since I popped for the Bibler I tent I've had it in some decent snowfall (Lassen in February), and also some respectable wind / rain this last weekend on the north coast (California). So far, great tent, no condensation problems, stood up extremely well to wind / rain on the coast, so far so good. All things considered, I'd probably buy Bibler again, but would go with the Eldorado next time, slightly larger, I believe same price.

Oh yeah...the I tent is billed as a 2 person tent, but you better be GOOOOD friends. I think it's an ideal one person / all season / all weather tent.”

“Except for Stephenson's. My 2R is supposed to be 2 person, which could sleep 3 close friends. I was going to buy the 3R for our 30 day trip, and they convinced us to try the 2R first. The 2R was plenty of room for both of us and our packs.”

“The I tent is listed at 4 lb 2 oz. I weighed it at home & that's correct. Nice to see honest weights by the manaufacturer.”

“I concur wanderer... I'm happy with my I-Tent (2 door) as well. I also agree it is too small for a 2 person tent, but for just lil ole me and some gear, it works fine. I'd consider the Eldorado for the additional head room though. At 5'9" I do not have much clearance. The EL is more $$ though.”
