Howling Wind Tonight “The wind is making such a racket tonight. The house is dark. I made a fire in the fireplace. Shadows are sliding up the walls. The cats are spooking at the leaves flying past the sliding glass door. Time for some ghost stories! Anybody have some new ones?” 11:06:24 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “I don't do ghost stories LyndyS. Or horror movies. When I was camping by myself, I was so glad I didn't see the Blair Witch project. total wuss when it comes to this stuff. If somebody wanted to get me really good, it'd be easy” 11:14:56 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “I had a buddy in college who was a local DJ. They decided to drive up to this old "haunted" ruins of an orpanage that brned down in the late 1800's. It turns out the children in the orphanage contracted smallpox, and the villagers, afraid that it would spread to their families, bolted the doors and lit the place on fire, killing all of the kids (as legend has it). According to my buddy, they drove up to the site to do a live broadcast, and immediately noticed the temperature drop about 20 degreees. They didn't even have the equipment set up yet, and were so spooked they decided to pack it in and get out. When they got to the car, and were driving away, hundreds of these tiny little hand prints started appearing on all the windows. He looked scared as hell when he told us about the experiance that night. I don't know if any of the history is true as to how the kids died, but I know the place does exist. I hope he was lying and BSing to tell you the truth, becuase the story scared the bejesus out of me, still does.” 11:23:31 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “I used to have a hook for an arm. Anyone see it hanging around?” 11:38:43 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “Boo.” 11:38:46 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “Here is one that happened to me when I was a kid. i think I posted this months ago, but I'll post it again for the newbies. I had a Great Grandma, Grandma Francie who died when I was 9. She was a saint on earth, and gave everything to her family. The last Christmas gift she gave me before she died was a quilt that she made. Our family was devastated by her death, especially my mom. About a month after she passed, I woke up in the middle of the night (which is rare for me becuase I've always been a heavy sleeper, and I've never had a nightmare) When I woke I was startled to see Grandma Francie at the foot of my bed, gently caressing the quilt she gave me, and smiling at me, the way a grandma smiles at her gandkids. Needless to say, I was scared as hell, and thought I was seeing things. I shoved my head under the pillow for about a minute. When I took my head out, SHE WAS STILL THERE. She put her finger to her mouth as if to say shhhhh, and kept smiling. I dove under that pillow, scared as heck for about ten minutes. When I looked up again, she was gone. I was scared but slept like a baby that night. The next day was Sunday, and I wanted to tell my parents, but I figured they would think I was lying, and I knew my mom would get upset. So I just kept it to myself. This is where it gets really freaky. We went to church that day. My parents were really involved in the church, and they knew most of the people that attended. During communion (catholic), my mom started sobbing in the pew. Pops couldn't figure out what was going on, so he took us out of the church and into the car. My mom kept sobbing, aand wouldn't tell my dad what was wrong. Well, mass finally ended and people were leaving the parking lot. My mom just started to stop crying when she saw something and started wailing again. We finally got home, with my mom just loosing it for the whole ride. When we got home, she finally told us what made her so upset. She said that last night (the night I saw grandma) she had a dream that Grandma Fancie came for a visit from heaven. My mom said that the doorbell rang, and my grandma was standing there. There was an old 60's looking powder blue car in the drive with an elderly couple sitting in the front seat. Mom asked Grandma, what are you doing here, and Grandma said that she was allowed to come and visit, and that those people dropped her off and would be back in a while. She proceeded to visit with my mom, telling her how she watched over the family, and how not to miss her. Then my mom said she went into the kids room because she wanted to see us! When the visit was over, the elderly couple picked my grandma up and left. It turns out, my mom saw the elderly couple in church, and saw them drive away in the powder blue car in the parking lot. She had thought it was a dream, and now thought it was real. I wanted to tell them so much what I experianced, but I didn't want to upset my mom further. I told her a few years ago, and we still can't believe it. It's plain ole spooky!” 11:42:21 PM 10/17/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “I had that last weekend while trying to sleep in a tent. Started around midnight to 10am. Couldn't really sleep a wink...looked at my watch...midnight...looked at my watch...2am...4am...6am...gave up at 6:30am and started BPking again.” 12:36:21 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “Good stories, Buddha Bear. I remembered the Grandma story, but didn't remember that it was you. The kids in the orphanage story was very sad, I hope it wasn't true.” 7:37:23 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “LyndyS I love the description in your first post. You set a mood well.” 8:13:06 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “i'm spending the weekend alone in the blood mountain wilderness. it's cold and wiiiiiiindy, too! whoo-hoo!” 8:21:17 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “lyndy, do you have a pic on phil's page? maybe under another name? i thought you used to be young and creaky, but i'm not sure.” 8:23:23 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “Yes, I used to be young&creaky. I haven't posted my own picture, I actually don't have one, since I'm the one usually taking the pictures of the family. M.Silver has a couple of pictures of me on his webpage from the Black Forest trip, on Phil's page.” 9:05:30 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “kewl!” 9:06:05 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “Thanks, Le Subtil!” 9:06:36 AM 10/18/01 RE: Howling Wind Tonight “This is an old one. I don't remember where I first heard it, or if I ever told it to anyone. There was this pair of brothers who lived alone in the hills. One day they were bored and decided to make a dummy out of old clothes. The filled it with hay and would amuse themselves by teasing it and throwing food and trash at it. They called it Charlie. One day Charlie grunted. The Charlie began to move around. It was not coordinated or menacing like Night of the living dead. He would jerk around like a puppet under the control of a nervous puppet master. He tried to make himself dinner. But, he spilled food every ware and almost burned up the cabin. He could not do anything. He would bump into things and break things and be constantly underfoot. Charlie made the brother nervous, but they could not bring themselves to take him apart. One day the brothers went out hunting, and ten minutes from the cabin they realized that they had forgotten some of there gear. Neither wanted to go back, but at one did. the other brother waited 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, then 40 minutes. What if Charlie had done something. He climbed to a high spot and saw Charlie, on the cabin's roof, stretching out a bloody hide.” 12:31:04 AM 10/19/01
