Saturday is
Just a reminder - out her on the West Coast, for some reason, lots of people have never even HEARD of Sweetest Day. It's sorta like Valentine's Day in the Fall...

Do YOU know about it?

I just started a new relationship, and have dinner plans. Known her for almost two years, but finally got around to something more than a lunch date...

I think a nice, romantic dinner, a simple flower arrangement, and some dancing might be a nice evening, huh?

She'll never even see it coming!

RE: Saturday is
My sentiments exactly, Joy.

Obi - how come you didn't do the dinner/flower/dancing thing last weekend? See my point?

Not trying to offend. Actually, I commend you. Many women will expect something on Sweetest Day and Valentines Day. So go for it. But don't let it stop you from doing something romantic on any other day of the year.

I didn't know about Sweetest Day, either. It sucks that there has to be two Valentine's Days. As if not getting something the first time around wasn't bad enough.

RE: Saturday is
There's no such thing as sweetest day. It's not marked on any calendar here, so it can't exist!

I think it's obviously a holiday fabricated by a certain greeting card company in order to boost sales during the slow autumn months.

And oooh! What a conspiracy! It's not even on a set day. It's on the third Saturday after the first full moon of the autumnal equinox. What a perfect set-up for a tear-filled argument at how I could POSSIBLY have been so INSENSITIVE that I didn't get a Sweetest Day gift for her! I have enough trouble remembering birthdays and anniversaries. Now this?!

Bah-humbug!

I am one of those saps that likes celebrating sweetest day. There is nothing more endearing to me to see my lady smile, and know that she is loved. I would always try to show that throughout the year, but would try to do something special on cheesy holidays such as sweetest day.

Alas, it looks like flower sales will be down this year. lol

RE: Saturday is
It's a midwestern thing, like euchre and pop. Too bad we don't get a long weekend for it - we need our own Patriot's Day or Casimir Pulaski's Birthday. Oh, but my school gets MLK Day off for the first time. So, I guess that's progess.

RE: Saturday is
OK, you guys... I guess I gotta clear the air here.

Tarabull - because I just asked her out to dinner for the first time. It simply happened to coincide with S.D. You're raining on my parade, here...

Joy & Newgirl - Can'thelp being a romantic, and in fact, I enjoy it. Every day SHOULD be as you say, Joy, but c'mon, Newgirl... You read as if you REGRET there's even a VALENTINE'S Day.

It seems to me that, while everyone deserves to know - every day - how special they may be to their significant other, it goes without saying that we sometimes take these things for granted. How many of YOU have accused your S.O.'s of THAT?

Sweetest Day, such as it is, should be, simply, another especially set aside day, significant to those who believe it to be so, to set aside time for someone special, be it significant other, child, even friend.

For me, it's simply another excuse to go out of my way, do something unique and memorable, something I WOULDN'T normally do every day... something I CAN'T do every day.

Lizs... she's heard me sing before... that didn't drive her away - yet.

Pepperdog... Foothill's all yours, babe! And so am I! LOL (Did I say I was a DOG?)

Lipstick... I prefer Englebert, but Sinatra works good, too!

China Chas... Ya see, I knew that... they didn't... until now. "When I sing you to sleep, after the lovin'..."

RE: Saturday is
Obi you're right, many people take the special ones in their lives for granted. The thing with sweetest and valentine's day that bugs me is that most people think it's all about giving and getting stuff, not love or affection or appreciation.
