Got any good ideas?
Anybody have any good suggestions as an easy and effective way to MAKE a fake crocodile?

I've decided to go as the Crocodile Hunter and am going to make a HUGE crocodile to carry around and wrestle with. It has to be durable, wrestleable, pop- and rip-proof, lightweight (filled with foam? peanuts?), at least taller than me (3' 4"), and somewhat realistic looking.

I''ve been thinking of sewing two sheets together in the croc shape, turning it inside out, filling it with peanuts, painting and "sharpieing" the outside. But if anybody has any better hints/suggestions to make it easier for me, I'd appreciate it!

I've seen inflatable aligators -- 'pool floats' they were. Not exactly lifelike, but pretty big... 6 or 8 feet long, and the coloration would be fairly accurate. You could fill one of those with styrofoam peanuts to give it a little heft.

Or you could inflate a few with helium and it'll be like that Second Coming story ('Rapture for Reptiles'). I'm STILL laughing about That one!

The pool float sounds like the best option. The Pool Toy Store has some. I doubt you could find one in the stores this time of year.

RE: How to make a crocodile?
I like the pool toy blow up idea... I'd rather pay $15 than have to make one. However, it's gonna have to be cigarette proof at the party(s) and be able periodically endure me wrestling with it on the ground/street outside.

Great idea Mr.dude...I could dress all blodied up, clothes shredded, a propeller hanging from my neck and walk around with my guitar singing "I'm craaaashing on a jet plane..." But there's something about the whole "wrestling the alligator" thing that will make the roll amusing...for me, at least.

Halloween sorta snuck up on me this year. I've been wracking my brain about a costume for the last two or three days, then I had a flash and thought I might pass it along: THE LORD OF THE RINGS, of course!

YOWZA.

My date is going as Lois Wilkerson. You know Lois... Malcolm's mom. Pray for me, wouldja?

darn and I thought this thread was going to be something kinky - anyways go with the inflatable toy - sewing a stuffed toy is a LOT of work to get it to look good

Got two bedsheets (lt and dk green) sewed them together in the shape of a crocodile, turned it inside out, and filled it with biodegradable packing peanuts from U-Haul. It's ~15' long, lightweight, tough as nails...and as a libation station, I added a large plastic cup at the end of his tail to drink from.

RE: How to make a crocodile?
The Crocodile Hunter costume turned out to be a hit. Not at the party though, cause it was ~15'long and HUGE, too big to carry around inside. However, at Kent, OH, they close a downtown street (one with tons of bars) for a Halloween costume extravaganza, which was where I intended to make my move. So after becoming primed, a dozen of us loaded into my van and headed to the mayhem.

Beaut' bonza mate, I generated a hugemungus crowd everytime I fell to the street and wrestled with my croc. The crowd love it. My friends said they heard lots of people saying that was the best costume they've seen so far...and all I had to do was roll around on the street. Because of that, I got best costume prize back at the party.

Turns out there's LOTS of girls out there that love the Croc Hunter too, nudge nudge wink wink.
