3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “Hmmm, did I have it made or what! Actually we backpacked up to the Lower Lamarck Lakes on Saturday Morning. And did an exploration dayhike up to the Wonder Lakes to stretch our legs on Saturday afternoon. After climbing up and down boulder and following animal trails. (For some reason we did not want to take the conventional way) We began coming across this amazing series of lakes, called the Wonder Lakes. The wind was getting more consistently powerful and in the back of our minds we wondered if we would reach our objective of the Lamarck Col and Glacier the next Morning The trip report is with the pictures. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/MyAlbums?u=1446006” 1:47:22 AM 10/23/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “Temperature was 40 deg Sunday morning. The wind kept me up from 3am on. All 3 tents held up, and we were all toasty. JDSmiling and I laughed about having our pants down to our ankles the next morning....it was hot in the sleeping bags! We all had breakfast in our tents, then bundled up for our hiking. JDsmiling relaxed and enjoyed just being out. WingDing hiked to Upper Lamarck Lake (with her full pack!) and then hiked out. WLD and I hiked to Lamarck Col (12,960'). This was WLDs first glacier. He was playing on it like a kid with a new toy! It was cold up there, so we took our pictures and headed down. Then we got some light snow. Not enough to stick, but it was snow! The snow followed us on & off, down to the trailhead. I thought I would be spending the weekend solo since everyone had plans, and SnowDude had to work. Things changed really fast, and I got to spend my birthday with a few of my internet buddies!!!” 3:32:09 AM 10/23/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report 6:52:40 AM 10/23/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report 6:54:32 AM 10/23/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report 6:56:48 AM 10/23/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “Yeah WD! I did better with the HTML today. LOL” 7:00:47 AM 10/24/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “ Same trip as WLDs "3 chicks and a guy" Since everyone had plans for the weekend, I was going solo. SnowDude had to work since he was flying to Chicago Wed. I spend every birthday in the mountains and this year would not be different. (Last weekend was WingDings birthday but she was at home sick). This weekend was also the end of 49 consecutive weekend out in the wilderness/mountains for me. Last year I made 47 consecutive weekends. Next weekend I'll be in Chicago for SnowDude's sisters wedding, so that'll break the chain. WLD sent an e-mail about doing a Sierra backpack. WingDing was asking about a November bp. I replied to both, and we got a trip together. Cool! We met at the North Lake parking lot Saturday morning. I got in at 3:15am so I was stumbling around in the morning. We made it to Lower Lamarck Lake in ~2 hrs, and set up camp overlooking the lake. JDSmiling relaxed at camp, while WLD, WingDing and I hiked to the Wonder Lakes. WingDing turned back at the 3rd Wonder Lake and WLD and I continued to the next 3 lakes. Later we ate dinner, then talked till the 40 degree temps sent WingDing to her bivy (after a long search for her toe warmers). JDSmiling went for the warmth of their new Zoid 2.0, and WLD followed her soon after. I was tired from no sleep the night before, so I went to bed too. The wind was howling and our tents flapping wildly at 3am. WingDing was coughing and congested during the night. I finally got up to make sure the packs didn't blow away. The wind was still blowing in the morning so we all cooked breakfast in our tents. WingDing packed up to hike to Upper Lamarck Lake (10,913'), then head out. JDSmiling slept for a few more hours. WLD and I headed for Lamarck Col (12,960') This was a pretty well marked trail, and was easy to follow, even though its not marked on any maps. The wind was pushing me everywhere, and it was cold enough we had layers on. We still made it to the Col in just under 3 hrs. Ever see WLD on a Glacier (see pics). The temperature next to the glacier was significantly colder than the windy ridges we had just climbed up. The lake that was there at one time, was no more. After 15 minutes of photos, we headed back. Clouds were forming, and JDSmiling was at camp alone. We hiked by the other two smaller glaciers on the way down. Part way down, it started snowing on us! Not enough snow to stick, but enough to feel the cold. We packed up, headed back to the trailhead, got dinner in Bishop. I stopped at the hot springs after, but the water was cool and it was windy out.” 11:18:27 AM 10/25/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “Geez, I tried the html thing and it didn't show up here's the URL, I'm late for work. http://community.webshots.com/album/23825286CLKGNmbakI” 11:21:12 AM 10/25/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report 7:17:54 PM 10/25/01 RE: 3 Chicks and a Guy trip report “Geez, Snow Nymph, I need to be more graceful when I fall. Especially since you are always so ready with the camera. LOL” 12:41:46 AM 10/26/01
