One Wicked SawView MessagesOne Wicked Saw “GYOKUCHO, BlueHard Komane, .045-240 No. S65 straight from Japan” 10:56:57 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “are you talking about the S651 shown here: 651 Saw ? If so I would match my 21 inch Corona against it any day for trail maintenance (grin). Yeah I know the S651 is not for trail maintenance.” 11:09:54 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Anybody know how much it weighs?” 11:28:24 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “It looked different than that one.. not sure.. might be a slightly different model? That thing was wikked.” 11:33:46 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Does it come with a blade cover?” 11:35:46 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I wondered that also. They're not too hard to make if it doesn't.” 11:37:09 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Yeah, they have a blade cover.” 11:57:31 AM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “So what makes this saw any more wicked than other saws? Also, is this a outdoors/backpacking saw? The website looks to be more about finish carpentry hand saws.” 12:16:15 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “why carry a saw, at all? geez!” 12:20:54 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “heh.. well my only exposure to woods saws were the old boy scout days and bow saws.. so I was soo impressed with how quickly we had a huge pile of wood.” 12:22:14 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Doesn't a pull saw take far less energy, effort and strength to use than a push saw? Isn't it just working smarter instead of harder?” 12:24:42 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “hey... to each their own.. I just know I was impressed.. I think you are right tho.. it seems counter-intuitive.. pushing versus pulling.” 12:35:08 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “note the Corona I was referring to is a saw that cuts on the pull stroke. As to whether it is easier - generally I think that is so for small to medium size wood - for large wood a foot or more in diameter I think I still prefer my traditional crosscut saw which cuts on both strokes but when being used single ended mainly cuts on the push stroke - it does take some skill to get the cut going smooth with out binding but that is just a matter of practice.” 12:45:09 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I thought we were talking about the M247, oh well. Pull saws are really nice for detail cutting, especially in furnature makeing and cutting mouldings.” 12:57:45 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I have seen this same saw twice now.. sklukaz?.. remember? Bob, Andy and Blaine had one over at Mollie's Ridge.” 1:23:12 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “why carry a saw, at all? geez!” 1:24:13 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “For trail maintenance! It looked to me that this saw would cut on the push and the pull. Does anyone actually ownone of these saws?” 1:31:20 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “i was waiting for someone to say "firewood", so we could lynch the bonehead.” 1:37:17 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “You don't need a saw if you never drag a LOG out of the woods and need to cut it up for firewood. but hey.. I do.. and luv a good hot fire.” 1:38:44 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I'm sorry I ruined your fun. Just call me killjoy.” 1:38:57 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Ooo wait! GET TOWNDAWG!!!” 1:40:09 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “tree killer!” 1:40:45 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “A push saw is easier than a pull saw. A push-pull saw is something only a woman would consider.” 1:41:33 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “All of these saws look like they weigh a lot more than a bow saw.” 1:42:56 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “So does your water filter just filter on the push Bacpac?” 1:49:16 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Yes” 1:50:09 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Mine does on the push and the pull. Bet I could filter a gallon of water faster than you could.” 1:52:31 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I contend that your filter does not filter on the pull. A filter draws dirty water in on the pull. The dirty water is filtered on the push.” 1:57:13 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “dirty water drawer!” 1:59:48 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Check out the First Need Deluxe. Click on First Need filters and then scroll down to the deluxe. You can contend all you want, it's true!General Ecology” 2:05:17 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Damnit! Radagast...” 2:06:08 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “” 2:08:23 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw 2:08:57 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw 2:09:59 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “HeeHEE! I did it! Eat furballs Fuzzpac!” 2:10:11 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Man, all this pushin' an' pullin' goin' on in here, I'm gettin' excited!” 2:11:36 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Hey Nigal, how am I supposed to give you that THING you wanted if you don't come hiking in Nov? You know what happens when I mail stuff to you!” 2:14:31 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “FIREWOOD is not a nasty word. There are plenty of DOWNED trees around.. no need to CUT ONE DOWN.. don't be jumping on me... :) hey.. call it woods maintenance.” 2:44:20 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “maple murderer!” 3:02:59 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “And you can flip pancakes with it too!!” 3:07:33 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I looked at the delux. I didn't see where it filtered on the in and out.” 3:14:05 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I don't have a problem with fires. If I find a fire ring at a campsite, I will use it. I don't think a saw is such a good idea though, becuase it would encourage you to use larger wood that might take a real long time to completely burn.” 4:58:08 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Im the one that brought the saw on our trip with towndawg, and yes it does cut both ways, it will cut a 5 inch peice of DEAD wood in less than 15-20 strokes! Weight is 6.2 oz thats all!!!” 7:24:26 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “it also ha stwo different size blades on it . 1 for hard wood and 2 for softer wood. The hard wood side has alot more larger define teeth and the other is razer shape!! Specs: RAZORSAW (combination saw for hardwoods) 9/22 Teeth/inch Stock #19.650.0 240mm 0.45mm 1.3mm” 7:29:27 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Prowler - what's the word - is it the same saw as mentioned on the link above ? ie the S651?” 7:30:58 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Ya basically the same just about! It is alittle larger of a blade thow! Does the one you posted have double side blades on it?” 7:55:22 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “It has a double sided, 8 and a half inch blade.” 8:00:20 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “Bacpac, I dont expect you to believe me but here goes...I just got our first need out and YES IT PUMPS AND PURIFIES ON THE PUSH AND PULL STROKE. Perhaps these handy cut/paste quotes from their website will help... "Quick, Easy & Convenient- no chemicals, hold time, double pumping" "Double Action Pump: top rated fast flow rate· field serviceable. " Who knows how its done, but it is. If you like I can ask some TTers who we are hiking with to verify.” 10:16:05 PM 10/23/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “What is double pumping? When does it draw water? I am not convinced.” 7:34:13 AM 10/24/01 RE: One Wicked Saw “I think double pumping is done as follows: 1.) instead of 2 check valves (1 inflow and 1 out flow) at the bottom of the cylinder there are 4 check valves - 1 in and 1 out at top also. 2.) the piston rod is through a water seal instead of being effectively open in the single action case 3.) the piston itself establishes two pressure chambers - one at the bottom of the cylinder the same as in the single action pump case and one in the top - as piston goes down water is forced through filter through the bottom outflow check valve while at the same time water is being pulled in through the top inflow check valve - when the piston changes directionthose two check valves close and the other two open allowing water to be pulled into the bottom part of the cylinder and to be forced through the filter from the top part of the cylinder. The key item in this is that there is a seal blocking water flow around the rod that drives the piston - it is this seal that probably is the item most prone to failure but what the heck - its a hand pump and one is not going to be running thousands of gallons through it in normal operation.” 7:51:24 AM 10/24/01
