How to Become Independently WealthyView MessagesHow to Become Independently Wealthy “by age 29. This is mostly for Tea, adventuregirl and Reptiles since everybody else here is an OLD FOEGIE AND IT'S TOO LATE! hahaha! (feel free to contribute though) 1. don't have children 2. get a job loser! 3. live with your parents as long as possible! 4. be nice to your parents 5. You don't need a car, ride your bike and mooch rides off other people Ü 6. go camping & hiking, it's fun and cheap what am I forgetting?” 11:20:19 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “When is the book comming out? "Financial Freedom Biz style" By Biz” 11:23:21 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “I have a friend who lived with his parents until he was 28. I think it was a negative impact on his career. Many executives want to see a little more fortitude than mooching off of Mom and Dad. Sorry, Biz. Still at home?” 11:26:54 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “As another option, inheritance helps a lot...” 11:27:01 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “I'm a Giggilo part time. That's how I got my wealth. Ever think about prostitution Biz? Jest kiddin!” 11:29:56 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Here's three more. 1) Buy brands like Top Ramen, Home Grocer, and, Heritage Farms. 2) Shop at Food 4 Less instead of Albertsons. You can get by on $20-$30 per week. 3) Stay away from bars, strip clubs, etc. You'd be suprised how fast you can money there. In other words, act like you were back in college.” 11:36:51 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Study chemistry.” 11:40:35 PM 10/23/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “...Then buy a bunch of backpacking gear and spend your weekends outside. I think that's how Biz did it.” 12:00:03 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Grow yer own!” 12:02:23 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “By age 29? It is possible. However, something available to almost everyone is the power of compound interest. If you save 10% of what you make for the first 15 years after you graduate from college and invest it at average long term rates of return for a normal investor (say 6-10%), you will be independently wealthy early enough to enjoy it. (If I had all the investments I made before I was 32 and hadn't sold them off over time, I would be independent today...) BTW. Having kids can make you feel wealthy in other ways.” 12:11:50 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Don't go to an expensive private university unless you're ALREADY RICH and don't have to take out loans.” 12:35:27 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “It may sound boring, but I have learned hard work still pays off. And an occasional aggressive calculated risk can do wonders for the profit margin if it works out.” 1:03:47 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Phil, I agree with your thinking. I think there is a saying about the best way to save money is by holding on to the money you already have.” 2:35:48 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “I remember Biz once said she "had an unlimited supply of cash"....something in those lines. My suggestion; MARRY BIZ!!!” 2:49:45 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Seems like Biz is constantly telling us how wealthy she is. What's up with that? Your list is kind of lame. Maybe a twentysomething single chick can get by without a car, but most of us can't in today's world of unmanagable and unsustainable sprawl development patterns. And live with parents into your 20's? Using your suggestions, a guy is guaranteed to never get laid! I say invest in real estate rather than mooch off friends and relatives as a wealth building strategy.” 4:09:39 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Start a janitorial service. Start cleaning buildings in High School. Hire folks to clean for you once you get a third or forth customer. By the age of 22 start making those homespun ads on local TV & radio. By 29 you should be independently weathy.” 7:15:01 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “....oh, and stop wasting all your time on TT.” 7:15:35 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Take up another activity rather than backpacking.” 7:25:10 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “doesn't "independently wealthy" mean that you can live off of the money that you currently have, without the support of a job?” 7:52:22 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “...or your parents...” 7:54:29 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “well, that too.” 8:02:08 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Biz has nothing to say about all of this.” 8:57:43 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Bacpac, I have an aquaintence who did just that right out of high school. He's a millionaire in just ten short years.” 9:11:43 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Some people are born with silver spoons in their mouths. I think that anyone who freeloads off of their parents, is a loser.” 9:12:24 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Biz?” 9:16:11 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “I think about half the people on this site are trolls. I think Biz is probably a troll too. He posts provocative topics and then runs. And not many have anything to do with hiking or backpacking or the outdoors. I am sorry, I felt the need to complain in order to keep up my image.” 9:20:50 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Hmmmmmm. Biz has a point. If you went to college, graduated and landed a job where you could sock away $2,000/month into investments the mirror the historical annual rate of return of the stock market (~11%), you'd have roughly a quarter million in by 29. In theory. Then, you could let it ride for another 13 years, without adding a cent, and you'd be a millionaire by 42.” 9:24:31 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “What not to do - Take your life's savings and start a business during a recession.” 9:43:20 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Mapper, Biz is a woman and she's not a troll, she's really Biz. She may go fishing but she's really herself.” 10:00:56 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Oops, sorry Biz.” 10:36:25 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “C'mon mapper. Biz has photos of herself on trips and she's met some TTer's on the trail. A lot of folks thought newgirl was a troll, too, but she's real. I could have become independently wealthy if I charged the whole TT forum a buck each to get her picture! Hmmmm ..Ok everyone, what do I bid for mapper's pic?” 10:36:45 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “I?d bet any amount of money mapper is the type that fills out the little complaint cards restaurants place on the tables and complain that the waitress was too attentive. She would not only look the gift horse in the mouth he goes and gets his elbow-length examination gloves on. LOL!” 10:42:14 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “OK mapper, are you Biz?” 10:46:31 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “-Don't buy a car -Don't go anywhere except for work -Don't have kids -Dont spend money on cigarettes, alcohol, expensive food/ clothes or anything you don't absolutely need -Don't travel, entertain, or date -Save, Save, Save -Die rich ... what's the point?” 11:04:35 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Who in the world would want to be independently wealthy? I just want to be content. I want to have a decent hom, decent vehicle, and happiness. Live simply people.” 11:05:08 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “1. Not having children till 30. 2. Got a good paying job. 3. Can't live with parents - they live in a anti-growth economy, hard to find job as civil engineer. 4. I'm very nice to my parents, however they will need us kids to bail them out financially in about 10-20 years. 5. Must have vehicle to live in less expensive part of town away from work. Also need vehicle for work (meetings, job site visits, etc. - compensated for this), not to mention hiking trips 6. Hiking and camping is not cheap. I own well over 5 g's of gear between hiking, climbing, skiing, photography, and outdoor clothing. I am however maxing out my 401k, investing other places in the market, marrying into a wealthier famiy, and looking to get involved with the lucrative real estate market in Las Vegs. My problem is I'm learning too late. By the time I left college I had close to 10g in credit card debt and $20g in college loans. I'm now starting to pull my head above water, but now I must save money for a wedding and honeymoon. No silverspoon here, I will make money the old fasion way; hard work and interest over time. Goal is to retire before age 50.” 11:06:26 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Aero, you have a picture of me? Do I get a cut of the money?” 11:11:13 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Well said, Newgirl. You are wise beyond your years.” 11:16:05 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Send me $350 and I will mail you my book on tape entitled "How to Become Independently Wealthy By Age 29".” 11:19:55 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Is it a book? Or one page that says "Trick everyone you know into mailing you $350" and a tape that says "Sucker!" over and over?” 11:22:25 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Not yet mapper. But I would cut you in on a percentage. These rendevous are tough to coordinate. I'd have to collect enough airfare if you're more than a day's drive away. newgirl was easy to meet; she lives just down the street!” 11:23:01 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Send me $349 and I'll mail you my book on tape and hardcopy of "Buddha's Become Wealthy by 29" Firts 100 customers recieve a free Ginsu Knife. Sorry Violin, I needed to lowball your offer to get the business.” 11:23:41 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Thanks Le Subtil. I learned this past year (after having newergirl) that all that other crap matters little. Money doesn't buy much, like dignity, love, or happiness. The more simplistic my life is the happier I am. Of course, I could use a little dough for gear! Hahaha! Also, Buddur makes an important point. Grow your own! I sew, I cook most of my meals (instead of going out), and I read alot (instead of rent movies). Depend less on others to provide for you, whether that be clothing, food, or entertainment. This is not to say I am some kind of nun type. Have a good time and decide what you might like ahead of time. Save money for it and go all out. For instance, I wanted a computer. I saved for 6 months, I got a computer. I wanted to go to Holland and screw around, I saved for 9 months, worked some while I was there, and presto, a trip to Europe!” 11:27:07 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Ooooohhhh, Ginsu. Now that's worth it!” 11:28:41 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Don't worry be happy. :)” 11:36:31 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Aero, what is w/ giving away where I live? Don't you know there weirdos around here. Damn, now I'm going to have to move.” 11:46:46 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “What gravels me is all these Montanans who complain the we're nearly last in state per capita income. Yet, I see new SUVs, snowmobiles, jet skis, drift boats and trophy homes evrywhere! There's some disconnect here between income and consumption.” 11:48:06 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Oh sorry NG. But I don't think even Special Forces could find you.” 11:51:10 AM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Newgirl, Biz wants to be wealthy. To each their own eh? I'll be retired by age 52 if I continue to work outside the house, at the job I presently have.” 12:16:34 PM 10/24/01 RE: How to Become Independently Wealthy “Look at the license plates, Aero. They are mostly CA tags.” 12:16:42 PM 10/24/01
