pet stories!View Messagespet stories! “no, not just stories you really like...stories about pets you've had! silly.” 4:04:03 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “almost the title of an album by the Beach Boys.” 4:12:34 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “I'd post here, lyra....cause I got tons of cute stories about my dog--but does anyone else care? Sometimes at work I get out of control talking about my dog and I'll look around and notice that everyone has left the room. It is a subtle hint, but I still get it. You know?” 4:13:16 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “i thought of "we'll make great pets"...porno for pyros.” 4:14:17 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “lyra, I emailed you a photo of the dog in question.” 4:14:34 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “I remember back in '79 being on a tour tram along the Grand Canyon rim when a voice came over the loudspeaker and said "Pets are not allowed...but petting is acceptible." The crowd got a chuckle...except me. Of course, I had to go and ask my mom what she he meant.” 4:15:19 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Do not use it in inappropriate ways.” 4:15:49 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “kewl, running girl! i'll take a look, although hotmail is slow as molasses today! sheesh, don't they know i have important chatting to do...” 4:16:04 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “okay, i have good stories about this goat we used to have--no joke! he once ate his entire food supply for the week in one day, and was disgustingly bloated for a long time. he always sort of scared me... when we moved, we couldn't take him with us, and gave him to the next-door-neighbors. my mom saw them in the grocery store and asked how the goat was...the said he was good--for dinner!! eewwww!” 4:18:33 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “My dog died a few months back and I'm still not over it. I have so many stories to remember. Here's a trick he pulled on me a few times. I have a nice (it used to be nice) leather chair. The kind of chair that I always thought of as a "Dad" chair. It occupies a prominent place in the living room and it was (was) my chair. Cymba, my dog (Show Chow. They have a snout almost like a lab, as opposed to a Work Chow)would finish his dinner then run down into the sunken living room and slide on his face like he was sliding head first into second base. Then he'd roll around on his back, growling and wiggling his legs. This meant "play" time. I'd get out of my chair and down on my knees to play with him and scratch his belly. He had me trained into doing this until one time... I got out of my chair and down on my knees, and woosh! He jumped up, ran around behind me, and jumped up in my chair. Then he sat there looking at me like, "What the heck are you doing down there, fool?" I laughed so hard I almost split my gut. He was smart enough to only do it about three times. That way he kept me trained into playing with him, and he was able to sucker me each time. He was people smart. He was extremely thoughtful and never left my side if I was sick. He was also tough as nails. He once busted right through the safety glass of a car window. But that's another story.” 4:25:31 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “running girl, your dog is absolutely adorable! i can see why you have lots of nauseatingly cute stories ;-)” 4:33:10 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “aww shucks!” 4:44:34 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Cats are a big part of my life now. It's funny, but when I was growing up, I had dogs. Ironic. But for some reason I have this facination with cats. When I was younger, delivering newspapers around the neighborhood, any cat I saw I would have to stop and pet. It got to the point where the "regulars" were waiting for me at 6:00 a.m. to drop by and pet them. One cold winter day, I had stop to pet one of my regulars. I picked him up and all of a sudden he started curling up around my shoulders and ploped himself right into the hood of my winter jacket. That's one of the reasons I love cats so much. They're crazy and funny. I love some of the antics they get themselves into. Oh and they make great Jerky!” 5:49:31 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “kittykittys are perty good frends I gess. Our land man has cows and mewls that are perty good to, but I do not think they are pets. I had a pet rat but I had to bite off his hed so he would not run off.” 6:02:37 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “I knew a schnauzer that once ate an entire turkey. I guess schnauzers will eat until the food is taken away. Anyway, in order to metabolize all that meat, it slept for three days , then stopped breathing and died. Sometimes dogs aren't as smart as we think they are. Don't get me wrong, I like dogs and could bore you with stories of the Irish Setter I had while growing up. But this was an unordinary pet story.” 7:07:19 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “My grandmother had a schnauzer that ate 3 lbs of link sausages once. The problem was that they were really linked together and it's stomache wasn't that big. Walked around with a bloat and half a sausage sticking out of it's mouth for the better part of a day. LOL, what a great Christmas story that always is!” 7:10:39 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “When my dog Fuzz was about 6 months old, he tried to hump a remote control dog. It was Hysterical!” 7:29:14 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Oh my gosh, walkindude, that's the cutest dog I have ever seen!! Running girl, share with the rest of us please!” 7:38:09 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Oh walkindude, how cute is that!” 7:53:48 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Thanks yall. He's a pretty hip dog.” 8:02:27 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “My brother had a few Chows, Arclite. One in particular was a real sweetheart. She had the personality of a Lab... Tien Loong Yang Ming Chan (sp?) Heaven's Dragon from the Green Mountain. I wanted a housepet for a while, but I have space limitations with this condo. I didn't want a cat or a small dog, I was looking for something... different. After seeing them in the wild (and having a couple of close calls), I started researching the possibility of getting a baby skunk, LOL. But, the more I found out about them, the more of a giant hassle it sounded like, soooo... I went to a pet shop with a friend to look at the baby ferrets last year. Just to look, mind you. You can guess the rest. She appears to be a cross between a squirrel and a raccoon with the personality of a kitten. Someone told me they like to eat bugs, so I named her Renfield. I haven't seen her eat a bug, but then again, I haven't seen any around here in a while...” 9:40:05 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Cool! Ren and Stimpy. So when does The Lug show up?” 9:46:33 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! 10:04:00 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “Thanks Tilt! I added that to my Favorites. I love Ren and Stimpy!” 10:06:32 PM 10/24/01 RE: pet stories! “One time, my sister's co-worker announced in the office if anyone would like to adopt her cat. A Vietnamese girl (a boat people) asked if the cat was alive or dead. No joke.” 12:08:11 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Arclite- I know how you feel. I lost my best buddy, Frodo, in August. I still get teary every time I think about him. He was a lab chow mix that was the best dog I've ever been owned by. Every one in my neighborhood misses him. One neighbor even suggested that we have a memorial for him. By the way, don't tell my other two dogs that Frodo was my favorite:-) Cute dog story. Years ago we had this tiny little mutt named Gia. She had a littler of puppies about the same I had my son. Gia had her puppy box in a corner of the family room/kitchen. I would put my baby on a blanket on the floor of the family room while I was doing things in that area. The dog could not stand for the baby to be on the floor and would try to drag him into her puppy box. It was a riot.” 9:36:37 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “i had to take my dog of 10 years, Muffin, to be put to sleep last year...that was rough. she was a mutt, i picked her out at the pound...she was just calling my name! she had so much personality :-) she and this cat we used to have, named Hamster, used to sleep in the same bed, it was adorable! and Muffin was a girl after my own heart, too...whenever my brother was out back smoking, she would hang around until someone gave her a shotgun, then go lay on her back on the grass and look up at the stars, LOL! she also had a habit of running into the glass door. totally unrelated, i'm sure.” 9:52:31 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “running girl- I know what you mean about clearing a room! There is a fellow at work that is as crazy about dogs as I am. We can lear a room in seconds. in fact, if people see us talking they avoid us! LOL! I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of your furkid. I love dogs!” 10:08:54 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “We have two labs, a black and a yellow, females. A male chocolate lab, from down the street, climbed the fence, at least twice that we know of. 15 puppies later..........” 10:20:15 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Oh yea, labs are really good at fence climbing. My guy could easily climb a six foot fence. We finally had to horizontally mount a strip of farm fence across the top of the chain link to keep Frodo in the kennel run. He still managed to escape every so often.” 10:30:39 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “I AM NOT FAT!! I jus got good guts and big hares. /o:3” 10:31:12 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Hey Pamster. Wanna buy a puppy?” 10:38:35 AM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “I'm SURE that was just a coincidence, L. Happy Happy Joy Joy...” 2:45:14 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “No thanks Aero. I recently adopted a rescue dog. She is still young and gives me my fill of puppy mischief. Bless her beautiful little heart, she isn't the brightest crayon in the box either.” 3:05:38 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “ha ha, Tilt :-) i used to get mad at my brother for that, but Muffin liked it, so... i think she just did it to fit in...and when you're supposed to be a dog, but look like one of the hyeenas from *The Lion King*, it's not so easy ;-) she also did this weird thing when my family was building a new house a couple of miles from where we then lived. we would leave her at one house, and by the time we got to the other one, she would be there! we never could figure out how she did it so fast :-)” 3:12:37 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “and i just looked at your ferret, Tilt--too cute! does it just hang out in the house all the time, or does it have a cage or something? i hope it can just roam around...” 3:32:22 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Yeah, that peer pressure is a... (ahem). Well, ANYway... I knew a guy whose dog would knock over everyone's beer so she could drink it. That dog was a mean drunk! I don't know what they looked like in "The Lion King," but those hyeeenas on the Discovery Channel are pretty scary.” 3:34:52 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Yes, she has the run of the house (and makes it to a litterbox four times out of five). She's an 'only child' so she's spoiled rotten, *G*. She has a small ferret mansion (large enough for three ferrets) but she prefers to sleep under the bed (on the thermarests!). They sleep like 18 hours per day. She looks like she's about to chow down on the shoes in that photo, doesn't she? LOL” 4:10:32 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “I don't know how to put the photo I sent to lyra on this page--or make a link to it. Sorry” 4:19:57 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Waaay too many stories to know where to begin. Then again, I remember one time at band camp...” 4:28:04 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “woah, i don't think that belongs on the "pet stories" thread, gojo, LOL! i don't know how to do it either, running girl, or i'd help ya out. wouldn't it be nice if you could just copy & paste images here?” 4:33:59 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Maybe you could convince Phil to start a Pet Photo Page? LOL” 5:00:54 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Sarabelle even went to band camp?” 5:11:35 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Yeah, Belle played the tromBONE! Gawd... I crack me up!” 5:14:38 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Hey Tilt: Did you have its scent gland removed? 'Cause, whew. a couple of those I've pet left my hand with a really nasty stank!” 5:24:29 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Aero, you still got puppies? I might be interested.” 5:51:25 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Yep, RM. Spayed and scent gland removed -- she came that way from the ferret store. I had her vaccinated for Distemper and Rabies and she was all set. Now if I could just train her to fetch me a beer...” 6:01:50 PM 10/25/01 RE: pet stories! “Here's a few photos of our kids, for your veiwing pleasure, including a bonus shot of me and the missus at Jazz's graduation ceremony: Jazz and the Sprockster Jazz is a rescue we got from Doberman Rescue Concern in Orlando when she was a pup. Sprocket came from a breeder in Chicago. My favorite Jazz story was when we decided to add another pup to the mix, I was very concerned on how Jazz would take having a pup around the house. After all, she had been and only child for over a year and a half. I got my answer one day at the dog park when someone brought a 12 week old puppy to play, and this poor pup was being harrassed by another dog. Jazz calmly grabbed the other dog by the scruff of the neck and literally dragged the dog away from the new pup, and wouldn't let this dog bother the pup for the rest of our visit. She is an extremely smart dog with amazing intuitions.” 12:16:45 PM 10/26/01 RE: pet stories! “mediaman- sorry, it was a couple years ago. We've "fixed" the problem. BTW, the rest of the story was that the father was a pure-bre, regitered chocolate. The puppies were beautiful- mostly choc., a few black. Anyway I politley approached the ownner and offered to split whatever we could sell them for since ours were registered as well. We could have easily aksed $300 each if he would have signed the AKC papers! The guy was a total jerk and didn't want anything to do with us, so we ended up selling them for $75 ea. Go figure!” 12:23:58 PM 10/26/01 RE: pet stories! “BobK, that picture of the dog by the campfire is awesome! if (s)he ever tries a dog dating service, tell him/her to use that picture! ;-)” 1:53:59 PM 10/26/01
