“Well, well, well... It turns out this Spc. Ryan G. Anderson arrested for suspicion of trying to pass military intelligence to al Qaeda is a right-wing gun nut. Why am I not surprised?

In these newsgroup writings, Anderson showed his fondness for guns and sought to join a local militia.

In December 1995, Anderson expressed his displeasure with campus authorities stopping him from keeping a firearm on campus. He also noted that as a ROTC cadet, he had been taught to respect his country and the Constitution, but that the law was squeezing him out.

In a 1996 post on a militia newsgroup, Anderson told his Internet confidants that the FBI had questioned him and thought federal authorities were watching him. "I just love feeling like a suspect, don't you?" he wrote.

Later that spring, he described himself as a "young patriot."

"I want to thank you all for at he least showing me that there are still people out there willing to make this country a better place," he wrote on May 10, 1996.”

Coulter Attacks Cleland's War Record

Columnist and television commentator Ann Coulter, in a column published this week, said former Senator Max Cleland, who lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam, is no war hero.

Coulter (said) that Cleland is no Vietnam war hero, just a victim of a tragic, accidental grenade explosion who plays up his amputations for political gain.

“If Cleland had dropped a grenade on himself at Fort Dix rather than in Vietnam, he would never have been a U.S. Senator in the first place. Maybe he’d be the best pharmacist in Atlanta,” Coulter said in her column, published on February 11.

“He didn't ‘give his limbs for his country,’ or leave them ‘on the battlefield,’” Coulter said. “There was no bravery involved in dropping a grenade on himself with no enemy troops in sight.”

Cleland was wounded picking up a grenade that someone else had dropped.
