Animal Rights
Well the animal rights wimps came to town and tried to get tough with the local cops. They lost.

RE: Animal Rights
The protesters were complaining, because the police used horses as weapons. I wish they had unleashed the police dogs on them.

I love irony.

Now, if the animals themselves were out protesting medical testing I'd have sympathy for them.

Protesting animal testing.

One of the protesters was taken to the hospital with a broken wrist. I hope they didn't treat her with any meds that have been tested on animals.

I used to work for British Airways years ago. We built the daily cargo pallets that went back to London Heathrow and Gatwick(sp?) airports daily. Once a week we would load canisters with frozen horse quarters packed in dry ice. The days that the door broke and frozen horse quarters dumped onto the airfield in view of the passengers was a riot.

RE: Animal Rights
If you score the skin of a bullfrog around it's waist, you can peel it off his legs - just like removing a pair of britches. I know a guy that keeps his right thumbnail long just for this purpose - seriously. Afterward, you cut the legs off (at the waist). Frog legs are DEEEE-lish!
BTW - A frog can lives for days w/o it's hind legs (what a sight to see one swimming with only his front ones!), so it would only be ethical to make a clean kill - either before or after legging it.

If you firmly hold the head of a rabbit and "sling" the carcus with vigor, the intrals will exit the anus. This is a quick way to gut your kill - though it "stretches" the skeleton.

If your chickens, etc, are being preyed upon by a bird of prey, stand a pole of 10' or so in the vicinity of the foul. Then, secure an open steel trap upon the pole. The bird will light on the pole - everytime! - and... SNAP! The bird will be hanging dead the next morning...

Rabbits will not enter a rabbit box that has been occupied by a possum. If you find a possum in the box, you might as well eat it and discard the box.

"What are you gonna do tonight?"

"I don't know, prolly stay home and "sling the rabbit"."

RE: Animal Rights
Horses have been held in higher regard than other animals throughout history and there is a stigma associated with harming them; they have carried soldiers into battle, plowed fields.. and are one of the few animals man has been able to tame and put to good use.. Ever met a wealthy person who didn't own horses?

eating horses is taboo among civilized people

On the other hand, horses are extremely dumb; I have been tempted to turn mine into a burger a few times. Or glue.

RE: Animal Rights
Biz, civilized people with nothing to eat (war time or famine etc.)will eat their horses...amoung other critters.

People will eat people, when it comes to starving to death or life. Like that soccer team that crashed into the mountains (forgot which mtn.) a few decades ago.

I've heard of that...how do they make glue out of horses?

RE: Animal Rights
Sailors are the most notorious cannibals. When adrift (and starving) in their lifeboats, the sailors of old would usually cast lots to determine the order in which they would be dispatched and eaten by the others.

Sometimes, tho, they would be eaten as they died of "natural" causes.

The remote mountains of Viet Nam were inhabited by cannibals as recently as the late 40's.

RE: Animal Rights
Reminds me of that Gary Larson cartoon where the sailors are adrift in a boat with a dog. They're drawing straws to see who will be eaten and one sailor is saying to the other something like, "Well Bob, looks like you got the shortest straw."

I think New Guinea was home to probably one of the largest populations of cannibals ever to walk the earth. A lot of their religious beliefs were intertwined with eating human flesh, including fertility practices using the bis pole, a totem pole with a large phalus into which they put brains of their enemies. I think the brains were eaten at some point.

Of course, the Donner Party also is one of the most well-know stories of cannibalism.
