None of these presidents were worthless. Think about how much money was spent to buy them.

There is no God.
But...
if there is, then you gotta believe that GOD gives and takes life. Therefore, GOD decided it was time for all those people to die on 9/11. God wanted those people to die.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's awfully hard to blame or credit one man in Washington, when he has a group of 600+ other people (in congress) that may or may not be working with him.

Shall we take a look at our latest Democrat president. First thing, THE VERY FIRST THING, that comes to mind is MONICA. I don't believe anyone would vote for a man to be president, hoping he would leave that for a legacy. And if I think real hard, something else comes to mind, the economy. Seems to have done pretty well in his tenure. Uh.... could it be that he had a fairly sympathetic, same party congress by and large?

Seems that many times the party of the executive branch and the party of the legislative branch are like cats and dogs and often the opposite party. That prevents plans from getting implemented with full support. I think if the plan gets support, whatever it is, the plan will do well. That's not saying the results are in the best interest of the US, but the PLAN does well. Then the spin doctors take over: "President X was unable to implement any of his plans, while president Y was very successful implementing his plans".

After that it's all politics....

Let's not forget that the economy started going down the tube last year before George W even had time to do anything about it (could it have been Clinton's fault?), but yet he seems to be getting all of the blame for it in some circles. Bill Clinton is credited for the great economy we had in the 90's, but the economy started improving 6 months before he ever entered office. So it seems that the President always gets unfair credit or blame for something he usually had nothing to do with.

What about congress???
I said before that you have some 600 plus or minus people that the Prez has to convince to work with him, and often times has to work against. Here is their track record, unfortunately though, it doesn't distinguish their party.

United States Congress

Can you imagine working at the following company? It has a little over 500
employees with the following statistics:

* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse

* 7 have been arrested for fraud

* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks

* 117 have bankrupted at least two businesses

* 3 have been arrested for assault

* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting

* 21 are current defendants in lawsuits

* In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving

Yes, these employees are the 535 members of your United States Congress.
The same group that perpetually cranks out hundreds upon hundreds of new
laws designed to keep the rest of us in line.

And yet we will give the prez a disproportionate amount of credit or blame......

Congress is supposed to be representatives of the American people.

Looks like a representative cross-section to me!

I always said when trying to decide between two candidates for elective office vote for the one with the worse criminal record and lowest morals -- he's already got experience in being a successful politician.

The Great White Sherpa:
Yea, the sitting prez really has very little to do with the economy, good or bad. Carter inherited a weak economy from Ford and couldn't get it turned around in time to save him. It was recovering before reagan took office and the USSR was imploding during the late 70's, but reagan is given credit because the final effects finally took hold on his watch.

Very True gordon. It makes me mad though that a lot of the Democrats in the Senate and House of Reps will use this recession to say that it was Bush's "irresponsible tax cut" that caused it and if we had continued with keeping our money in Washington where it belonged, this would never had happened. Politicians are always saying that we can't afford a tax cut, but yet we can always afford a yearly budget increase. So it's pretty logical to say that tax cuts would actually stimulate the economy (people would get to keep more of THEIR MONEY to spend).
The Great White Sherpa
5:58:23 AM

Well yes and no. The entire 'tax cut results in more government revenue' theory is from Laffer's supply-side model. What most repubs won't admit is Laffer later repudiated large parts of his model. Before the latest round of bush's tax cuts the tax rates were still below the level Laffer said was optimum.

I notice W is claiming that delaying the tax cuts (as the dems propose) is the same as a tax increase. By the same logic then the bush tax plan will result in the single largest tax increase in world history in 2011 when his entire plan sunsets.

To paraphrase P.T. Barnum: "No one ever made a mistake by overestimating the stupidity of the average voter."

A reward of 20,000 laris ($10,978) was offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible, the embassy statement said.

Woohoo! A $10,978 reward for information on the person who made an attempt on the life of George W. Bush.

All you youngans out there from 45 and younger are skrewed...But keep on paying your Taxes so that all those who draw now can get there checks,,,,,and when you get old enough to draw yours the GOV will demand you not retire due to the fact there will not be enough people to fill the jobs needed in the US......It is comming...thats what a High preformance work place is all about and you will be hearing more about this new faze we will be shifting too soon...HIGH PREFORMANCE WORK PLACE....I
I went to a seminar last week and this is new age stuff and a must to move us to a profitable workforce in the future.....The Baby Boomers are starting to retire and this will escelate as we move on for the next 20 years.....In 5 to 8 years you will be hearing and following this new High Preformance Work Place attitude.....

i don't pay social security for me. i pay it for my grandparents who currently are dependant on it for their income. social security is not a retirement plan. it's a safety net laid out by a compassionate and caring society. america has been good to me and i am saving for my own retirement, thank you. i don't need nor am i expecting to draw anything from social security. i could care less if i get one penny from the system. i plan to retire when i want to retire and not when the government says i can... and i'll do it too. it escapes me why people think the government owes them a free ride.

You got it right Yogisan. Save for yourself and do not think social security is your ticket to Retirement. The Gov has set up all sorts of programs that will accelerate your financial growth thanks to the Republicans.

Waitin for someone to hit this one ......

When Social Security was started, it was not meant to be a total retirement plan, it was supposed to be a supplement to your retirement. People used to either work until they died or they would set money to the side for retirement and when they felt they had enough they retired.
The ratio of people paying SS and receiving SS was originally 17 to 1. The last time I checked it was 3 to 1. So for every 3 people working and paying SS they are supporting 1 person.
Thanks to our government(both parties) for using SS as their own piggy bank, the money is just disappearing and is not being replaced.
So I agree, just consider your SS taxes as a donation to help out someone else and make sure you are making your own plan for retirement.
