Leonid Meteor Shower info “Check out this link if you dig meteor showers (and who doesn't.) This year could prove to be the most spectacular in our lifetimes!” 4:23:01 PM 11/01/01 RE: Leonid Meteor Shower info “Kewl!!! Maybe we'll see something on the Nov 16-18 trip!” 4:43:36 PM 11/01/01 RE: Leonid Meteor Shower info RE: Leonid Meteor Shower info “Roar!” 5:59:20 PM 11/01/01 RE: Leonid Meteor Shower info “null” 2:59:01 PM 11/15/01 RE: Leonid Meteor Shower info “Dolores Beasley Headquarters, Washington, DC Nov. 14, 2001 Phone: 202/358-1753 RELEASE: 01-222 NASA LEONIDS ACTIVITIES: SLEEPYHEADS MAY MISS SPECTACULAR CELESTIAL DISPLAY Early birds may catch more than their proverbial worms this week. In the predawn hours of Sunday, Nov.18, the annual Leonid meteor shower may put on one of its best shows in decades, according to various scientists modeling the expected Leonid activity this year. "It's time to set your alarm clocks and get yourself out under a dark sky," said Dr. Donald Yeomans, head of NASA's Near Earth Object program office, at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "This could be the last opportunity for watching an impressive meteor storm in a dark sky for decades to come." There's also live data from other locations, if the Sun or the weather messes with you.” 3:56:34 PM 11/15/01 12:37:17 PM 12/12/01 12:40:12 PM 12/12/01 “Sweet! And a partial solar eclipse on Fri at about sundown, to boot.” 4:23:22 PM 12/12/01 “Back to da top!” 11:26:24 PM 12/12/01 memories from July 4, 1887 “Info: In the article to which nigal directs us, there is a picture of Mt. Fuji. The mound to the left on the slope is referred to as "the false mountain." Going up that slope one could easily take the wrong direction and deadend on the "false mountain." There are five, primary trails leading to the top of Mt. Fuji. The one that goes around "the false mountain" is the Gotemba Trail. Four of us made the mistake of getting off the bus at Stage 1 at the bottom of the mountain, instead of half way up the mtn. at stage 4. Most of that side of the mtn. is soft, black ash, in which you keep sliding downward. The Japanese call it the slide and they love to come down that way, jumping, rolling and sliding most of the way. But for people like us who go up from the bottom there, they make a circle with their finger pointing at their head while saying, "baca." This translates to "crazy." Hope you don't mind me sharing a memory.” 12:13:58 AM 12/13/01 correction “...1987...” 12:32:47 AM 12/13/01 geminids “Aren't the Geminids supposed to peak tomorrow night?” 12:55:56 AM 12/13/01 “Sounds like a tough walk, *G*. Yaz... Geminids peak 04h UTC (11 pm Eastern, 12-13). Some more links are on the other thread.” 2:00:36 AM 12/13/01 “I hope I at least get to see it! It's been rainning alot here.... Mike” 5:59:31 AM 12/13/01 “It's raining here. It sucks to be me.” 6:03:12 AM 12/13/01 “Well, our forecast has changed from 60% chance of rain to partly cloudy. UNfortunately, if it clears up I might have to walk to get beyond the streetlights 'cause the Exploder lived up to its name. Can't get far if the sucker won't go in gear... That kinda sucks, LOL” 6:46:14 AM 12/13/01
