Sound like fun TX. I changed my plans, and am not going to NY. I'll be closing on my new house on November 15th, and moving in. It will be my first Thanksgiving at in WA. I always celebrated in NY.

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
Susan has this Mad idea about putting skylights in the livingroom. Looks like I'll be cutting holes in the roof & ceiling.
This weekend we're remodeling a bathroom in the house so I've been painting, paneling, putting up chair rail, Trim in bathroom & hallway, and installing a new vanity. Tommorrow I'll be putting in a new toilet after she does the wallpaper, hanging the mirror, finish installing a kitchen counter, clean the garage, clean my junkie area around the computer,
*stop for a moment to gasp for air*

wash the truck & car, watch the NASCAR Rase (I hope), Watch some Football (that may be pushing it), Put up Halloween stuff, store the lawn equipment for winter, and maybe I'll get in a nap as long as I don't get caught.

Next weekend= BACKPACKING!!!!!!!

I can't wait!

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
Thanksgiving means only two things:

1) Eat turkey.
2) Watch the Lions.

Oh, yeah, they're the same thing this year.

On a slightly different note, I was reading the Ann Arbor Observer yesterday. They list community events. On thanksgiving there is nothing listed except an Ann Arbor Naturalists meeting at a local cafe.

I guess if you don't have any family to hang out with, you might as well get naked with strangers.

If the wife has no plans for me I plan to hike the Black Creek Wilderness Trail. Made it half way earlier this year before a tropical storm ran me out.

Following a 10-day visit from dad, we drive back to Phoenix for a week over the holiday. No backpacking, but I might be able to head out into the country for a little 4WD touring...

The Dallas Chapter of the Sierra Club is coordinating a trip to Big Bend taking "Sleeper Buses". Only catch is you leave on Wednesday night and come back Monday morning. Rats! Now a Thurday night trip to Sunday night might be do-able..

Did someone say "The Smokies"??

It's not that we wouldn't love to meet all you Southerners, but that there probably won't be time. Besides Radagast, you'll be hiking! The wedding was originally planned for April and we had hoped to tack some extra time onto our stay for hiking. Got the call from the bonehead yesterday; they've moved up the date. No explanation why, they just want to. (Exasperated sigh)

Maybe there'll be time for a beer and a buffalo wing.

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
Not sure. Haven't given it much thought, actually.

Geez - so many options!
Five days off...
lessee... at least one day offshore fishing on my cuz's boat (Fall grouper fishing - best time), at least two nights in the backcountry... somewhere.

Mebbe I'll wet the rowboat like last Turkey Day @ Cumby.

Cohutta Wilderness?

Oooooo! I know!
Sipsey Wilderness!
Yeah, that's the ticket...

Then again, the Conecuh NF, AL, is kinda on the way home from my cousin's... mebbe me and Belle will do the 20-some-odd miles of their trails.

Or Myacca SP, FL (BP'er mag feature). The weather should be just right for there...

Heck - I DUNNO!

He's 14. Too big for the kiddy table, too young for the kegger.

When I went to Disney World it poured rain. No lines! Yes, some of the rides were closed until it quit raining but there were still no lines for about the first hour or so after it quit.

I will be having turkey for my family of four plus the sister-in-law. We'll take the kids to see the Harry Potter movie, and do some Insane Friday mall shopping, because the kids love to see the holiday decorations.

yay, Lyndy!! now that's what i'm talkin' 'bout! :-) the mall, on the other hand...reminds me of my favorite game...

Would You Rather:

a) go to the mall the day after Thanksgiving

b) ride Space Mountain for 2 hours straight after eating your weight in turkey and drinking twice your weight in beer at my grandma's kegger

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
LOL, Lyra, one year we went to the Short Hills mall (very ritzy, $$$$) very early, so we could shop and leave before the crowds. We got there at 8 AM and all the big department stores were open. The only problem was that there was not a single place open that sold coffee! Ruined the day!

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
Thursday - dinner at sister's place most likely - probably pick up Mom at the assisted living place first - hope she still remembers me (sigh). Friday - possibly some trail maintenance - but then on the other hand perhaps not since the trails I would be working on are in a region where hunting is permitted - I am not personally worried about the hunters but I would not want to interfer with their hunting - the more deer they harvest the better IMO. Saturday I get to see my son for the day - no plans. Sunday - perhaps some trail maintenance - same concerns as Friday.

Gojo -

Make it Big Bend and swing by and pick me up, ok? Denali we can save for Easter Break! Course, the Canyon at Christmas is cool, too....

Lyndy, the Short Hills Mall on Black Friday, what WERE you thinking? What WERE you drinking?? LOL

You could not get me in a mall unless it had an awesome gear store with sales galore!

RE: Thanksgiving Plans??
Weren't drinking coffee, that's fer sure! It is a beautiful mall, though. And it isn't crowded on Black Friday until around 11 am. It has the only Nordstroms nearby, and they have great kids clothes.
