RE: Trail names
I hear ya Lobo, I rate as the Alpha Female with cubs also. I guess you could say we are our own pack?

Hunting sure is lean when there is only one Alpha in the pack though..LOL

RE: Trail names
hunting was pretty poor this year also. I tracked down one beer and a box of mac and cheese, it was tough the mac and cheese almost landed a fatal blow. I have been called a pack of something before or was that a sack of something.

I don't know where the the "blue" comes from-just a nice alliterative touch. But the belch, I earned that the old fashioned way.

"Alpine" is pretty self-explanatory, but my first name also happens to be "Alan". It seemed like a good fit.

BobK: If you're lookin' for a photography related name there should be lots of possibilities. How 'bout Filter, Winder, Emulsion, or Cable Release? Well, maybe not...

I read this article in Backpacker or Outside about a lady who took women out for wilderness trips. She gave them wolfsister status after they successfuly completed the trip. I take newbie female type people out all the time and tell them if they sleep out in the woods two nights in a row they are "wolfsisters".
Besides I'm a girl and everyone knows girls always run in packs!

Was SARBoy...quit SAR so it's no longer applicable...went on a hike with Trailartist, and spent 20 minutes waiting for a marmot to pose for a picture (and even got pretty close to it when she was sure it would run off). Finally got the pic. Trailartist dubbed me marmot at that point.

RE: Trail names
Actually my trail name came from a book/movie

"The Windwalker"

This is from the introdution...

"As Indians, we are moved when we contemplate the Windwalker, an old man who is a child of Mother Earth and the Great Creator. Through him we see the spirit of our people, a people with total reverence for life- reverance for Earth-Maker, the giver of life; for our relationship with Him; for the earth, which is seen not as an object for exploitation but as an inseperable part of existence and a complement in forming eternity."

When they were little, I read the Lord of the Rings to my kids, while sitting around campfires. My daughter called me strider a couple times, and it seemed a reasonable handle for this forum. Can't bring myself to capitalize it tho - I don't pretend to have the same 'stature' as Telcontaur.

I can't believe I haven't jumped in on this thread yet. My name is from wearing lipstick on the trail. I just feel comfortable with it on, and I use it to moisturize my lips.

It's something unique and not just ripped off from Tolkien. "Radaghast the brown, Radaghast the Fool".(It's one of my favorite bits, I nearly wet myself when it popped up as a trail name). BUT

My favorite walk is through a spagnum bog in an Alpine region not far from where I live.

Hmmmmm...

The best trail names are ones you might give a dog.

I knew a dog with three legs named tripod.

I carry a huge bogen tripod that weighs more than my 3-person tent 'cuz I can't afford a carbon fiber gitzo.

Without my skivvies on I look like I have three... oh, never mind.

But tripod sounds good. I like it. What do you guys think?

Ruffian: My team mates branded me with it as a result of a not-so-gentle encounter during a door kicking mission when I was active duty Special Forces. (Hey..it was real world stuff and the option was a full auto burst in a VERY crowded room). As for now-a-days it still fits my personality (or so I'm told..OFTEN).
