sole mates
Hey why is it so hard to find a decent outdoorsy guy who can keep up in the woods with me?

I think it's just tough to find any decent person... and finding someone with common interests is tough too... add both of those things together and the odds get worse!

You're lucky vixtrix, I lived in No.Cal. some years ago and started hiking up there. Very, very nice area, both woods and beach like you say. In a few weeks I'm going to the Olympic N.F. to hike through the rain forest up to the snow line, can't wait!

RE: sole mates
You might find that what you wish for isn't always what you need....I climb, ski, backpack, cave...do all the outdoorsie things....... except for small hikes and the occasional x-c ski, my wife doesn't do any of the things I do and we've been married 32 years.

I only know a couple relationships that each person shares the others passion for the outdoors, and they ain't doing that well. Climbers in particular, never seem to stay in a long term relationship with another climber.

The true sole mates I know tend to follow their own paths, and their mates support them.

Perhaps if you tie a string on them, or leave a trail of cookies, they wouldn't get lost..

You'll find one, trust me

RE: sole mates
I have 3 brothesr and a Dad who all backpack A LOT. They are all married and only one of them to a lady who actually backpacks. In fact, most of the people I know DON'T bring their companions backpacking...

Don't worry, be happy.
Do you really want your guy to see you looking that bad anyway? Ü

I love to hike, solo or in groups. It's all good.

That said, I think it would be better yet to have a soul mate to share your hikes with.

It's my ultimate fantasy.

RE: sole mates
My wife is not the "outdoorsy type"(her words)at all but we have a wonderful relationship just the same.
I HAD a girlfriend that used to do all the things I like to do outdoors and after about 3 months I couldn't stand being around her 24/7.
So there are pros and cons.

laqtis -

does your wife camp at all? i had always loved camping, but never did any hiking/backpacking until last year. i lived in the U.P. for 4 years, and never took advantage of all the beautiful places up there. it was only after college that i got adventerous and started. now look where i'm at - chatting on a website with you guys! there is always hope!

i think mtnsteve said it best..."The true sole mates I know tend to follow their own paths, and their mates support them."

the tough part is finding that!

RE: sole mates
My soul (not sole) mate would carry me and my pack on a hike. He would get all the water and do all the long and drawn out filtering himself. He would set up the tent, get the wood and start the fire and let me do the cooking and not argue about how I'm doing it.
