RE: hey who has the oldest gear here?
My backpack and tent are 20 years old. I really need to replace that tent. My sleeping bag was bought for summer camp when I was in third grade. We got it at Sears. It's still good. That was about 25 years ago.

I have a 30 year old Seaway pack with no padding that I started with. I haven't used it in about 28 years though. I'm saving it for when the Antique Roadshow comes to town.

My 64 year old uncle went to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with us a couple years ago. He did fine except for day 1 when he was acclimating to the heat and had to lay down on the trail several times.

Well, my butt is 43. If it wasn't for that my pack would just slide off.

Currently Usable:
2+ person tent - 10
Pack - 10
Solo tent - 2
Stove - 3
Boots - Brand New

Blew out the 1975 Vasque Hiker II's on a road walk in 1989. Should've had 'em bronzed and made into bookends.

That 8-pound pack has Got to Go.

Hey Dunadan, where did you get the pants. Let me guess, o.d colour, one cargo pocket, adjustment tabs on the belt, buttons on the belt. Mate, we bought these as kids so we could go X-country skiing. We paid about $5(aust) about 15years ago. What a pisser.

I hike with a old dude who uses a pot he said he salvaged from his mom's old wood cook stove. They used to have holes in the top you could slide the pots down in for cooking closer to the fire. My oldest item would be my hiking poles they are old ski poles with leather straps. Sassy said their so old they look cool. I'm just to cheap, I mean thrifty to but them new fangled ones.

An Opinel Knife I bought 20 years ago. I usually give all my gear away if it's more than a couple of years old. I just like new things, nice bright shiny new things, Lots and lots of nice new bright and shiny things......

The only old thing I have is a 30 yr old boy scout pocketknife and canteen.

But old things with history are neat. Most of my furniture is old, family hand-me-downs and some are very nice pieces. My kitchen mixer and sewing machine are ancient. I can relate to why people want to keep old military equipment and know the stories behind them.

LOL Splash!

Bunyip, I use my surplus wool pants for Xcountry sking and hunting. They're worth way more than they're sold for. Mine have a layer of plastic between the fabric in the knees and tush area.

Wolfsister did I say that? They do look pretty cool.

As far as I'm concerned if something old works well it's perfect, shiney or not! Most of our furniture is old. If I can find something old, in good shape I feel more thrilled than if I'd bought something at the ritziest store in the world! Flea markets and garage sales are my favorite places to shop.
