RE: hey who has the oldest gear here?
I've got a Svea 123 and TNF sleeping bag I bought with student loan money in 1971, still use them sometimes. Still use an old tea billy I "borrowed" in the mid 60's.

I sometimes poke around garage sales looking for old dual fuel stoves to renovate.

Still have the canvas rucksack, cook set and sheath knife I got my first year in Boy Scouts, 1964. The rucksack, which was my college book bag in the early 70s, holds hunting gear on a basement shelf, and the knife is in great shape, but a bit too sentimental for taking in the woods anymore. I have the two-burner campstove our family used in the 60s, but haven't tried to start it up. I still have some Wilderness Experience gear -- daypack, backpack and sleeping bag from the mid to late 70s that serve as backup gear or get put in the car trunk with winter emergency supplies. My first generation Coleman Peak 1 stove still works great, and that's at least 20 years old.

I'm perpetually replacing stuff if I find something lighter or that I like better. Plus, it's like toys. The newer ones are more fun to play with. The oldest thing I have is a pocket knife that's 10 years old.

My walking stick is somewhere around 50 yrs old. My grandfather bought it when he was stationed in Germany after WWII.
I have all my Boy Scout gear still and some really old knees!

1945 Coleman stove, as mentioned, but I don't bp with it.

I used a vintage equipment originally and slowly added newer stuff. I love new stuff also.

Does it have to be stuff we actually USE, or just stuff we keep for Smithsonian purposes?

Do I win?
I still occasionally use a metal one gallon canteen on day hikes. It was given to me by my grandfather. He acquired it used in 1915 while working as a ranch hand in Jackson Hole.

The blanket cover is long gone and the strap has been replaced several times, but it still holds water.

When I use it in the backcountry I like to think my grandfather is hiking with me.

RE: hey who has the oldest gear here?
I got some hand me down gear from the 'rents.

Early model SVEA that is about 40 years old. My dad got in high school for a trip up to Glacier NP. When I inherited it, it still had the original box with it that advertised "Take along a warm friend" on the outside. It also had the price tag still on it. $6.95! Man, how things have changed. It is my white gas stove. I upgraded it with a pump to pressurize it.

My mess kit is about 40 years old. Good, old school heavy-duty aluminum that my mom's family used for camping trips when she was kid.

Sometimes, old gear is the best.

lol militiaboy!

I had a WWII French Alpine pack, never used, until I got my hands on it. (legend has it that the soldier surrendured as soon as he heard the word German).

Goj . . . I mean miltiaboy, you are compulsive about Britney. I see your posts about her everywhere. You manage to work her into every thread.

I have a hand-me-down stove and thermarest from my benefactor, Griz. I don't think they're quite as old as some of this stuff, but . . . gee whiz . . . what generosity!

My very first stove. The second I bought because it combines a cookset w/stove. I quit using it because the scare over aluminum causing... I don't seem to remember.
