NC Appalachian Trail
Ok, after I get the challenge cookoff done.. and after I go down to Georgia and section hike part of the AT with WalkingDude in March (and possibly another trip with Chili36 over christmas break).. I think the next AT section I want to do is NC.

I will start doing some reading, but it would be nice to hear from TT'ers some thoughts about start/stop.

I would like to include Hot Springs, NC about the time they do that celebration for hikers, and I would like to consider hiking ALL of the NC section from the GA boundary to the TN boundary if it is feasible.

I looked at a few of my books last night. It looks like Waterville just about splits the hike? Right around Murphy or so?

How's the terrain? Typical of what I have seen in the surrounding areas? What's the 'must-do' shelter or place to visit on that route.

The spa at hot springs is a must do! Great after all the "down" to get into the city. Outside hot tubs. Nice campground with hot showers and cabins if you want. Treat yourself! Great little organic restaurant across from the outfitter. Terrain is typical of what I have seen of the area..up..down..up...down...down..down...down..LOL

RE: NC Appalachian Trail
Should I make hot springs my END point then? I am willing to do up to about 50 miles.

Which parts have you done, bpbaby?

RE: NC Appalachian Trail
OK, Hot Springs, NC is at 270.2 mile marker.

Davenport Gap is at 233.9.. That's only 36.3 miles. Any EASY four dayer.

If I go 40 miles to the North, that is Flint Mountain Shelter.

Does anyone have any pictures from any trip in those sections?

Or any personal experiences?

Looks like Trailfest in Hot Springs is about the 3rd week of April. I will plan my trip in there somewhere.

RE: NC Appalachian Trail
If you want to do the hot springs you need to make a reservation. We got up there the first time and it had been booked for a month:-(

RE: NC Appalachian Trail
It's not planned yet but I'd really like to thru hike the 101 AT miles in Shen NP, perhaps in late May. Also the Presidentials in NH in June or July.
