Girls Only ECT Hike Report - 10/10,11/01

“10/11, 4:10 P.M.
Departed hometown for the North GA mountains - destination: Blue Ridge WMA.
I spotted smoke due north of Dahlonega - it appeared to be directly in our path. Traveling along Hwy. 60, just S. of Suches, I passed right through the fire in the vicinity of Woody Gap. It was kewl in the now darkness.

We stopped at a dispersed campsite several miles up Fish Hatchery Rd., and made camp with the aid of the Tacoma's reverse lights and my headlamp. Sarabelle surveyed the surroundings, and gave the all-clear-of-rats signal.

I was expecting the other campers at any time. At about 9 p.m., a late 80's model Blazer made a loud pass-by, but it wasn't Newgirl - as Belle and I were suspecting. Instead, it continued out of sight and sound.

No one else showed up, either. I was beginning to suspect that the unannounced change of venue was going to be a potential problem, turnout wise.

I had two beers, and crashed about 11 p.m. I built-up the fire before turning in in hopes that it might signal our location to all late comers.

I awoke on Sunday morning to discover that nobody had come in during the night. I had coffee and sat by the fire until about 10 a.m. We loaded into the truck, and spent the remainder of the morning cruising miles and miles of FS roads. We crossed the AT at three locations. Also, we stopped at a small preserve and took a short loop trail around a wetland and food plot. We headed out of the hills around 1 p.m.

We stopped at a Ruby Tuesday for burgers, beers, and the second half of the Falcons game. Got home at about dark.

Despite the low turnout of girls, the First Ever All Girls ECT Hike was a rousing success -
