i don't know that you get full usage of the word "rad". another movie thats good, reminds me of my tt name. naked lunch? anyone? dr benway. thatd be a good freaky troll name. not that i've ever trolled anywhere (not to mention i had no idea what that was until i hung out here a bit, man the freak shows come out on this board, eh?) but if i start i better not use that name...

RE: Favorite movie
I liked the movie "Naked Lunch." It is a great portrait of developing madness. It was seemed to take more inspiration from Burrough's life than from the book by the same name... but that seemed a reasonable choice.
The book, however is a masterpiece brilliant, obscene, hilarious and hideously insane. I met Bill, the adding machine heir, twice and tried to interview him for a local newspaper. He filled me in on the Satanic history of Scientology.

"seven, gladiator, fight club, bridget jones' diary"

way to get in touch with your masculine AND feminine sides. interesting the guy movies outweigh the chick flick 3 to 1.

my favorite was the star wars trilogy until fight club, which has since been replaced by lord of the rings

"favorite war movie: apocalypse now" Stormbringer, Apocolypse now isnt really a " war movie". True the back drop is the Vietnam War but the story isnt. The story is about man in an unchecked environment, without outside control or accountability (exemplified in colonel Kurtz). Its like a grown up version of "Lord of the Flies". Apocolypse Now was inspired by and follows much of the story line of Josef Conrads "Heart of Darkness". If you read the book you'll view Apocolypse Now entirely differently, you'll get more out of it for sure.

I’m a prick when it comes to movies. I’ll admit it. I am that cynical bustard that is never impressed and always points out mistakes and flaws. I saw a movie last night that literally blew me out of the water and left me speechless. Hero. I wasn’t expecting too much because Crouching Tiger is one of my all time favorite movies and I figured Crouching was going to make Hero pale in comparison. So I was absolutely stunned when Hero turned out to be even better than Crouching Tiger!

I get a kick and enjoy the way a movie is made and shot as much as I do from the story. This movie is breathtaking from beginning to end. The biggest thing you notice is how they use color metaphorically for different levels of truth and evil. They use huge landscape shots and contrasting colors that make it even better. I haven’t seen color used this well sense The Cell. There is one fight scene that takes place on a lake that is possibly the best fight scene I’ve ever scene.

Yes it has gobs of wire works and kung fu but the fighting isn’t even a major player in the movie. I was hoping for a lot of fighting but the story sucked me in so much that the fighting was secondary. It is subtitled and they move pretty fast in spots but there are long sections with no dialogue at all.

Giving this movie five stars would be too little and two thumbs up would be a mere jest.

I'll have to check it out. Crouching Tiger was so quiet for most the movie that it made me think that I now knew what the Sound of Silence was.

Hero is a great "artsy" movie. But if you guys have a chance...rent "The Emperor and The Assasin"....basically the same story...but more true to the historical facts. Less aerial martial arts though.

In the first fight scene the only sounds you really hear are rain drops and a stringed instrument. I also found this interesting.

Stanlee, THANK YOU! I was trying to remember the name of the other movie but couldn't. I'll check it out!

I saw "Intimate Strangers" a foreign film playing by me, so it must be subtitles, and I just don't feel like reading a movie right now, but it looks good.

Hero was a beautiful movie..had to tell miss opie i'd watch passions in order to get her to watch this one. The colors, the martial skills, the huge extra scenes, contrasting landscapes, and the fight scenes will appeal to most because they are so fluid, and flowing as much kung fu styles are. The aerial stuff turned off some of the pple in the theatre i was at...but you have to realize these characters take on mythalogical characteristics to portray a magical part of chinas history

"Hero" was excellent ! It was the *sound* quality of this film that did it for me. I was sooo glad to experience it in a new theater with the latest in sound
technology. Everything from the whoosh
of ten thousand arrows being launched
to the drop of a single tear was astounding. And then there were the moments of overwhelming silence that said what words could not.

Hero sounds like it might be baby sitter worthy. I'll have to look into setting up a "date."

I normally get real turned off by the outrageous kung fu wire work but I can put it into proper perspective if I remind myself that Chinese folk lore is chalk full of legends about these types of fighter who were supposed to posses great powers.

It’s definitely babysitter worthy. I’ll probably end up going to see it again before it leave theaters. Then the long wait for the DVD release! Oh lord help me! It’ll be great to watch it dubbed rather than subtitled. You get to see all the stuff ya missed while reading.
