It is a great portrait of developing madness. It was seemed to take more inspiration from Burrough's life than from the book by the same name... but that seemed a reasonable choice. The book, however is a masterpiece brilliant, obscene, hilarious and hideously insane. I met Bill, the adding machine heir, twice and tried to interview him for a local newspaper. He filled me in on the Satanic history of Scientology.” 6:22:15 PM 11/14/01 “ ![]() Huh. Always wondered why GWB said his favorite movie AND phrase was "Bring it On".” 3:34:06 PM 2/09/04 “So what if a guy loves the football team in that special way? Man,,,, now that I think about a little Steve McQueen, The Cincinnati Kid. (top that Dorothy)” 8:57:31 PM 2/09/04 “i love the movie seven, gladiator, fight club, bridget jones' diary, fear and loathing in las vegas is hysterical.” 8:59:28 PM 2/09/04 “"seven, gladiator, fight club, bridget jones' diary" way to get in touch with your masculine AND feminine sides. interesting the guy movies outweigh the chick flick 3 to 1. my favorite was the star wars trilogy until fight club, which has since been replaced by lord of the rings” 9:50:02 PM 2/09/04 “i love LOTRs too.. how could i forget about them?? also how to lose a guy in 10 days and under the tuscan sun were real good chick flicks” 9:51:48 PM 2/09/04 “with your split gender issues, you might like ang lee. he directed the hulk AND sense and sensibility” 9:54:51 PM 2/09/04 “100% female thank you” 9:59:37 PM 2/09/04 “you always have to have the last word, dont you?” 10:05:56 PM 2/09/04 “Jeremiah Johnson Man in the Wilderness WindWalker Legends of the Fall Clearcut The River Runs North Kellys Heros Blazing Saddles Shane The Quiet Man (I relly liked this John Wayne Movie because he wasn't killing indians)” 8:08:52 AM 2/10/04 “I love Quietman too. Maureen O'hara and John Wayne were great together. Another to add to my favorites: The Big Lebowski. Tried running and watching it at the same time Sunday. I almost fell off the treadmill twice.” 11:33:33 AM 2/10/04 Here's a few “Braveheart Apocalypse Now A Clockwork Orange Finding Nemo The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Pink Floyd’s, The Wall” 12:01:33 PM 2/10/04 “favorite historical epic: braveheart favorite comedy: heathers favorite series: lotr favorite lotr: the two towers favorite sci-fi: 2001 favorite big 80s flick: purple rain favorite horror: the ring favorite chick flick: the piano (yea i liked a chick flick, so what?!?) favorite chop suey: enter the dragon favorite foreign: crouching tiger, hidden dragon favorite mind-fck: fight club favorite movie i think is really under-rated: solaris favorite animated: beauty and the beast (yea, another chick flick. so what!?) favorite war movie: apocalypse now favorite western: unforgiven” 1:04:10 PM 2/10/04 oh and how could i forget “favorite comic book movie: x-men” 1:45:22 PM 2/10/04 “"you always have to have the last word, dont you?" maybe.” 6:14:12 PM 2/10/04 “"you always have to have the last word, dont you?" maybe.” 6:14:26 PM 2/10/04 “or the last 2 words” 6:14:49 PM 2/10/04 “All The Lord Of The Rings. Goodfellas. Casino. The Star Wars Movies. 8)” 6:19:05 PM 2/10/04 “"favorite war movie: apocalypse now" Stormbringer, Apocolypse now isnt really a " war movie". True the back drop is the Vietnam War but the story isnt. The story is about man in an unchecked environment, without outside control or accountability (exemplified in colonel Kurtz). Its like a grown up version of "Lord of the Flies". Apocolypse Now was inspired by and follows much of the story line of Josef Conrads "Heart of Darkness". If you read the book you'll view Apocolypse Now entirely differently, you'll get more out of it for sure.” 7:56:13 PM 2/10/04 “Raiders of the Lost Ark,Limbo,Apocolypse Now,Falling Down to name a few” 7:57:27 PM 2/10/04 “Steal Magnolias, Finding Nemo and Quest for Fire.” 8:04:27 PM 2/10/04 wolfy “excellent! another quest for fire fan! id love that movie even if a barely legal rae dawn chong wasnt running around naked thru the entire movie birch: yea, i know all that. but most good movies are about more than just the setting or genre. otherwise, its just a formula flick. scorchfire: maybe not” 9:32:43 PM 2/10/04 “Buckaroo Banzai!” 9:40:31 PM 2/10/04 “"falling down" rocked, btw” 9:46:12 PM 2/10/04 “I forgot about "Quest for Fire" too. That was a great movie also good of that genre was "Clan of the Cave Bear"” 9:56:31 PM 2/10/04 “i wanna see that. and not just for darryl hannah in a loincloth (but mostly)” 9:59:05 PM 2/10/04 “stormbringer: get over yourself” 2:40:30 AM 2/11/04 “Bevis & Butthead Do America Pulp Fiction Big Lebouski Underworld Star Wars” 6:12:00 AM 2/11/04 "Bevis & Butthead Do America “"is this a god dam?"” 10:15:04 AM 2/11/04 “I’m a prick when it comes to movies. I’ll admit it. I am that cynical bustard that is never impressed and always points out mistakes and flaws. I saw a movie last night that literally blew me out of the water and left me speechless. Hero. I wasn’t expecting too much because Crouching Tiger is one of my all time favorite movies and I figured Crouching was going to make Hero pale in comparison. So I was absolutely stunned when Hero turned out to be even better than Crouching Tiger! I get a kick and enjoy the way a movie is made and shot as much as I do from the story. This movie is breathtaking from beginning to end. The biggest thing you notice is how they use color metaphorically for different levels of truth and evil. They use huge landscape shots and contrasting colors that make it even better. I haven’t seen color used this well sense The Cell. There is one fight scene that takes place on a lake that is possibly the best fight scene I’ve ever scene. Yes it has gobs of wire works and kung fu but the fighting isn’t even a major player in the movie. I was hoping for a lot of fighting but the story sucked me in so much that the fighting was secondary. It is subtitled and they move pretty fast in spots but there are long sections with no dialogue at all. Giving this movie five stars would be too little and two thumbs up would be a mere jest.” 8:18:38 AM 9/04/04 “I saw Hero last Monday. It is a beautiful movie. I liked the story, but the shots were the amazing part. It is gorgeous.” 2:45:51 PM 9/04/04 “I'll have to check it out. Crouching Tiger was so quiet for most the movie that it made me think that I now knew what the Sound of Silence was.” 3:27:24 PM 9/04/04 “Hero is a great "artsy" movie. But if you guys have a chance...rent "The Emperor and The Assasin"....basically the same story...but more true to the historical facts. Less aerial martial arts though.” 1:42:09 AM 9/05/04 “Se7en” 2:33:50 AM 9/05/04 “"Crouching Tiger was so quiet for most the movie that it made me think that I now knew what the Sound of Silence was." In the first fight scene the only sounds you really hear are rain drops and a stringed instrument. I also found this interesting. Stanlee, THANK YOU! I was trying to remember the name of the other movie but couldn't. I'll check it out!” 7:49:09 AM 9/05/04 “I saw "Intimate Strangers" a foreign film playing by me, so it must be subtitles, and I just don't feel like reading a movie right now, but it looks good. A woman goes into a tax accountants office by accident thinking it's a psychiatrist's office and starts telling him personal stuff......” 1:38:12 PM 9/06/04 “Hero was a beautiful movie..had to tell miss opie i'd watch passions in order to get her to watch this one. The colors, the martial skills, the huge extra scenes, contrasting landscapes, and the fight scenes will appeal to most because they are so fluid, and flowing as much kung fu styles are. The aerial stuff turned off some of the pple in the theatre i was at...but you have to realize these characters take on mythalogical characteristics to portray a magical part of chinas history” 2:04:29 PM 9/06/04 “I think my favorite is "The Shining." But then "Chocolate" was great, too. (Showing my age.)” 4:53:06 PM 9/06/04 “"Hero" was excellent ! It was the *sound* quality of this film that did it for me. I was sooo glad to experience it in a new theater with the latest in sound technology. Everything from the whoosh of ten thousand arrows being launched to the drop of a single tear was astounding. And then there were the moments of overwhelming silence that said what words could not.” 5:09:33 PM 9/06/04 “Hero sounds like it might be baby sitter worthy. I'll have to look into setting up a "date."” 9:12:46 AM 9/07/04 “I normally get real turned off by the outrageous kung fu wire work but I can put it into proper perspective if I remind myself that Chinese folk lore is chalk full of legends about these types of fighter who were supposed to posses great powers. It’s definitely babysitter worthy. I’ll probably end up going to see it again before it leave theaters. Then the long wait for the DVD release! Oh lord help me! It’ll be great to watch it dubbed rather than subtitled. You get to see all the stuff ya missed while reading.” 9:32:08 AM 9/07/04
