I like the security of having a reasonable firearm in the home, just hope I would never have to use it!” 12:26:36 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “gojo, that 20 mm Vulcan is nice, but it gets kinda heavy after a while and the depleated uranium in the shells gave me a nasty rash.” 12:30:17 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I used a glue gun last Christmas during assembly of a dried flower wreath.” 12:32:26 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Bob I agree absolutely and hope as you do. The only thing worse than having to use it is desparately needing to use it and not having it. best of luck.” 12:36:38 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “LOL Running girl!” 2:43:16 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I would also like to recommend the Remmington 870. I've had mine for years and it has never jammed. Mntman, great advice on home protection. I used to preach that to a buddy of mine. He didn?t believe it until he saw what he did to a pheasant at close range with birdshot” 2:55:14 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Dang Running Girl! Ya right wing radical! Let's not get too carried away here! That gun could realy 'stick it to them'! It could realy get you out of a 'JAM'! Be sure it 'ADHERES' to local gun laws! Does the action on that gun 'STICK' much? That thing could realy keep the bad guys 'IN THEIR PLACE'! I bet it realy comes in handy if things get 'STICKY'! MOOOHAWHAWHAWHA!” 2:58:00 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I like my transmogrifier in a short-barrel con-fig. On this planet I "enjoyed" firing the M-60.....but that bastard thing is hell to clean. 3:07:14 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Tom T I keep my transmogrifier set on "deep fat fry"” 3:13:18 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Caulk gun.” 3:29:41 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Nigal was just being HILARIOUS.” 4:05:02 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Calnative: Thanks I have a little experience in defensive firearms. You're my hero from your writted b--ch slapping of Spock on the gun control issue a few weeks back.” 4:24:29 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “You mean the thread on which I exposed him as an Obsessive-Compulsive?” 5:58:33 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “For the reasons Mtnman noted, Wal-Mart doesn't sell the Defender with the pistol grip adapter in the box. That actually saves you a few bucks, too. Might even consider the Mossberg youth model 500 in .410 for an easy to handle house gun. You can get buck and slug loads for it if you want versatilty. That slug is a nice .41 caliber, but not for inside use. BobK, another thing to look for are the tactical loads -- designed for lower recoil, they come in several different shot sizes. Federal has a low-recoil personal defense load in #4. But I agree, a low-brass light skeet load at 10 feet will do the job in most cases. Remember, your handgun is just to cover your @$$ until you get to where you've stashed your shotgun or carbine.” 6:09:37 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I bought Joy a mossberg 500 "bantam" in 20 gauge for her b-day a while back. 22 inch barrel,$249. Mtnman, I guess it was Plaster that shot the guy from a boat with an m-2... Before I became a civilian we picked up some 50 cals (McMillan or Barret I forget???) for our sniper squad. THAT was a heckuva gun. BOBK, regarding a shotgun for home defense. Pumpguns have a few definite benefits 1) inexpensive 2) Devestating at close range 3) VERY intimidating appearance and sound when being cocked. 4) are very easy to become familiar with BUT there are negatives 1) Can be unwieldy and cumbersome 2) many folks dont practice with a pumpgun enough which can lead to a careless "spray and pray" result in a confrontation 3) The biggy is that the "enemy" can be a couple feet away and conceivably grab the weapon and possibly disarm you Whatever you get PLEASE practice often and NEVER brandish it without the knowledge that you intend to kill.” 7:36:44 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “KISS.........Love Gun!!” 7:53:16 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Pekka, I've got a really dumb gun question for you: What exactly is the difference between a carbine and a rifle? Is it caliber, barrel length, or what? I know knives and bows, but I don't know guns?” 10:05:20 PM 11/13/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I used to own a SPAS (sporting purpose automatic shotgun (what a joke, that thing was made for war!!!, not sports))...actually it was a semi-automatic. It was very heavy and unwieldy. At least it was intimidating. I exchanged it for a Remmington 870. Very good shotgun. It came with a pistol grip and 18" barrel...I later bought a longer barrel for hunting.” 3:53:51 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “a carbine is a short rifle.” 8:08:30 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Spock, most of them just dont get it. In their eagerness to show off their firearms knowledge, they are in turn showing off how large a redneck they are!” 8:27:19 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Bunyip: Oh I get it all right that isn't the question and I am sort of a large redneck (good ole boy is more accurate) although I would be willing to bet a better educated one than either of you. The point is no one cares what Spock thinks when he or anyone else for that matter is being foolish. His moronic thread has been used to transfer some useful information to a couple of people, I see that as a good thing.” 8:39:43 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Ah, bite me” 8:47:46 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “bunyip is just mad. his 'gubment' took all his guns away.” 8:48:30 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Little rude isn't he?” 8:51:07 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Or should that have been rube? Being a dumb redneck, I forget.” 8:52:54 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I dont need guns, I've seen what they can do to a country and I dont mean your country specifically, but think of all the crap that goes on in Africa and Central Europe where guns have flooded in, AK-47's for the price of a can of Coke.” 9:02:27 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “markar, rad is right. Simple definition is a light rifle with a short barrel. I believe carbines were developed for cavalry who needed something with more reach and accuracy than their pistols but couldn't deal with the unwieldy long-barreled rifles of the time. The classic image of the American cowboy pulling his lever-action from a scabbard on his saddle is the carbine in action. Probably a connection to the naming of certain Italian police as "carabineri" (sp?).” 9:02:54 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “pekka: very impressive!” 9:05:40 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Please accept my apology for my boorishness. I will now go and meditate under a Pipal tree and learn the middle way.” 9:31:09 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Along the same lines Bunyip; have you not seen what alcohol has done to the native communities of your country? And yet one of the greatest points of pride for your country is how great your beer is, how much Ozzies can drink, ect, ect. I also find irony in the fact that you equate education and familiarity with firearms with ignorance (the more we know about guns the bigger the redneck we are?). Is this reasonable?” 9:33:49 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “And what about your own indigenous peoples. Or should I say make mine a Bud! Whats to know about a gun, you point it and it goes bang, sometimes someone gets killed, pretty obvious to me!” 9:38:00 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Bunyip, is hunting banned in Australia? We use our guns to keep our freezer full of meat. No venison=mostly vegetarian meals. I don't like to buy red meat at the market (who knows what the heck's in it and how fresh it is). Does that make a redneck out of me? I don't really care! I know that venison is much healthier for me and Michigan's deer herd is much healthier for the three that are culled from it by Birch each year. Think what you like but many here were employed by the USA for a time or still are, it was their job to know guns. Many more are hunters and use their weapons for hunting. My shotgun is for squirrel hunting, nothing else. I chose the shorter model because it is more comfortable for me not for shooting someone in close quarters.” 9:38:12 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “When the deer and squirrels can shoot back, then we can talk. Next you'll tell me that whaling is OK because it can fill several hundred Japanese freezers with meat.” 9:44:39 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “ ”9:44:57 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Kleetn stop lighting your own farts.” 9:46:11 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “My point concerning your indigenous peoples was to show how we can take up the banner against one thing while ignoring something else all together. ?Whats to know about a gun, you point it and it goes bang, sometimes someone gets killed, pretty obvious to me!? And this is the true type of attitude that IS ignorant and represents the true irresponsible redneck stereotype you make the actual knowledgeable folks here out to be. I do not want to assume anything so I?ll just ask what your experiences actually are with firearms. Have you ever owned a gun? Have you ever used a firearm? Have you ever been hunting? Have you ever taken a course in firearms use and safety? "When the deer and squirrels can shoot back, then we can talk." So you are eluding here that you do not eat meat or use animal products?” 9:53:09 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “They'd just starve if they weren't hunted (the deer). There's way too many of them and very few predators. So is there hunting allowed in Australia?” 9:53:53 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “apparently, australia has the perfect balance.” 9:54:53 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “ ”10:02:21 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “They used to not have a problem there with shooting rabbits. Crime is up there and in GB since more firearms banned. A firearm is a tool, for food, for defense, for good, for evil. Fortunately despite a lot of evil use the good uses are about 5 times more regular. Knowledge of them is as vital as that of any other dangerous tool, tractor, truck or table saw. My children have the Eddie Eagle kid safety video and I trust them greatly based on their knowledge from me and from lessons learned there. (still lock things up just in case). In all things Knowledge is key.” 10:04:06 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Whaling would be just fine with me if they were like rats, addapting to changing envirionments so well they over populate and cause accidents and starve if their numbers aren't reduced. Bunyip would you feel better if we let the deer suffer through the winter and then just burned their carcasses come spring? I personally see hunting whitetail as the responsible option. No sense in wasting a resource.” 10:05:14 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Hunting is permitted in certain areas at certain times. When I was younger I did go hunting and found the whole concept rather disturbing. There would be more humane ways of reducing deer populations but unfortunately that would mean spending money. It's cheaper to send in shooters. In the spirit of International Brotherhood, lets just agree to disagree. (and because it's 2 am and I'm knackered)” 10:06:20 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “--this lesson in morality was brought to you by a drunk australian.-- we now return to our normal programming.” 10:09:07 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Oh I'm sorry, there I was having a different opinion, I guess I better be careful and toe the line. Tell me Rad can you make the trains run on time as well.” 10:15:02 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Bunyip: I didn't, of course, realize that you are currently down under as well as (I could have guessed) hammered. Go get some sleep, its 9am here.” 10:19:23 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I would like to state humbly, tail between legs, that I may have been a little out of line with the er um redneck crack. Now retiring back to swamp.” 10:23:18 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “Having a different opinion is great. It?s when you call someone a redneck and they are wrong and you are right without presenting a plausible logic to your opinions. Hunting is wrong because you did it and it disturbed you is no reason to call others wrong for doing it is simply silly. If you don?t like something simply because you don?t like them just say so. Opinions don?t HAVE to be presented as absolutes. Hell, I hate clowns. No plausible reason for it, I just hate them.” 10:25:23 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “That would be self-loathing in your case, Nigal. (it's a joke!)” 10:28:26 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “I think they remind me of Dad.” 10:34:09 AM 11/14/01 RE: Favorite gun? “it was a joke, ya yippy bunny!” 10:52:19 AM 11/14/01 Jump to Page << prev
