I don't just buy guns without checking the specs first.” 10:39:34 AM 12/09/04 “Quick troll, go google some useless information to come back with another lame reply! SHWEEEEEET! ![]() last edited: 12/09/04 10:49:33 AM” 10:42:13 AM 12/09/04 “unreasonable fear of tools.....” Nigal 10:14:45 AM 12/09/04 A gun is like any other tool, different tools for different jobs, a handgun is not much use for shooting quail, and a shotgun is not much use for shooting antelope. For backpacking I try and reduce weight by not taking anything that is not really needed, and if needed I take the lightest possible. Sure a chainsaw is a heck of a lot more efficient and faster than a sven saw to get firewood, but I take a sven cos it can do what I need for backpacking. I can only think of 3 reasons for a firearm backpacking, bear, cougar, person. How likely am I to be attacked? can I do anything to reduce that chance? what are my options if crapola does happen? Almost always my best option does not include carrying the weight of a firearm. When I do it is like the first aid kit, accessible but hope it is not needed. And Geobeet I find a helicopter gunship a lot more useful than the M1A1 particularly on wet boggy trails or steep narrow rocky trails, I can even use the hellfires to remove slow moving M1A1's that are in my way on the trail. LOL” 11:27:15 AM 12/09/04 ““I'm not fearing the gun. I fear anyone who talks a lot about it and posts pictures of their "children". ;)" LOL! That's like fearing guys who talk about that mowers or people who post pictures of backpacks or some other hobby. "And it wasn't a she, two street punks mugged me.” Let me get this straight, you live in Washington D.C. and you STILL got jacked. No way! Metrosexuals...” 11:49:34 AM 12/09/04 “two street punks mugged me.” Bearmagnet 10:32:44 AM 12/09/04 But they cannot have had a gun cos they are illegal in DC. Lucky they did not give you a prostate exam or tonsil probe, or both at the same time. Squeeeel piggy.” 12:00:40 PM 12/09/04 “DC is for punk ass #&%!$es, YO! I LOVE THIS THREAD!” 12:59:01 PM 12/09/04 “Why would I want to carry an Abrams concealed. I wear my tank outside my pants for all the honest world to feel.” 4:19:23 PM 12/09/04 “.357 magnum” 4:28:11 PM 12/09/04 “Red Rider Carbin Action 200 Range Air Rifle with a compass and a stock and this thing which tells time.” 9:47:51 AM 12/10/04 “Nigal - mowers are rarely used to kill I didn't get mugged in DC.” 9:49:07 AM 12/10/04 “Its really hard to pick just one,, but the one that is a favorite is the one I don't own. A single shot 45/70 Sharps 1874 replica rifle.” 10:08:47 AM 12/10/04 “Paper cartridge or brass?” 10:09:46 AM 12/10/04 “Brass for sure,,,I'm not looking to venture to far since I already have a lever action in the same cal.. I got a flint and a inline ML already if I want to dabble in BP. stuff. I'm not into having a bunch of calibers just some firearms that share the same cal. Because I may try to reload .44 mag/spec. and 45/70 for cost prevention because 45/70 is over a buck a shot when store bought.” 10:26:12 AM 12/10/04 “I read somewhere that some of the old Sharps actually had a knife in the action to cut the end off of the paper cart before firing. Are those brass carts rimfire or centerfire?” 10:32:02 AM 12/10/04 “The single shot I would like to get would be centerfire and able to take modern loads and hot loads like my lever can. Since I'm not a full blown cal. nut and reloader and more of a casual plinker I'm gonna keep my firearms and ammo supplies needed as cheap and as simple as possible.” 10:54:45 AM 12/10/04 “"A single shot 45/70 Sharps 1874 replica rifle.” This is an awesome round! No it won't do for 300 yard shots but what you hit goes SPLAT, goes down and stays down. I always wanted one of those revolvers they have chambered for the 45/70. My uncle has a 45/70 barrel for his Contender and let me tell ya what, it's bruiser to shoot!” 11:19:17 AM 12/10/04 “I'm lookingh for an Enmfield, M1858 caplock in cal. .577.” 12:05:04 PM 12/10/04 “My guns have varied over the years & I carry a gun on the gov job. I started with & still have a 4" stainless 357. I might take it on a long canoe trip but gen don't. It's not good for the house because if you ever used it there, the muzzle flash would blind & blast would deafen you. THe kids get annoyed when bullets pass thru their walls as do the neighbors. I picked up a .380 Mauser Hsc pocket gun but had little use for it. Moved to an Iver Johnson .22 for hiking but the safety kept coming off so I rarely carry that. I like the .22 round but again you have to be carefull of it's long range. It will drop a deer but simply annoy a bear though the noise of it will chase them away. Moved to a 9mm SW compact high capacity stainless auto which I like, but my combat shooting scores are better with a wheelgun. Lately when I bother to carry at all in the woods, it's usually a double barrel derringer in 45 long colt (old west round) or .410ga shotgun shell (interchangeable).” 6:21:59 PM 12/10/04 “My ruger 10/22 international with 3x9x44 optics. Its an awesome squirrel gun, it can push tacks at 75yds.” 6:29:08 PM 12/10/04 “Wear a body warp bomb and an anal trigger.” 6:32:27 PM 12/10/04 “Juicy Fruit.......has to be Juicy Fruit.....” 6:41:19 PM 12/10/04 “Wear a body warp bomb and an anal trigger.” 6:58:49 PM 12/10/04 .44 automag... “the most powerful handgun ever made. I keep mine in the toplid of my pack for easy access.” 10:45:39 PM 12/10/04 “Anything Ruger makes. I have a Ruger 77/22 Magnum, .22 Hornet and 77/50 muzzleloader.” 11:26:33 PM 12/10/04 “Juicy Fruit.......has to be Juicy Fruit.....” divinity 6:41:19 PM 12/10/04 oh sorry...I thought you said GUM......I dated a guy who chewed Juicy Fruit and he had the sweetest kisses.......” 6:21:22 AM 12/11/04 “Actually the .44 is not the most powerful handgun ever made.” 9:41:33 PM 12/11/04 Div “LOL, now you crack me up!!!” 12:22:16 AM 12/12/04 “"Actually the .44 is not the most powerful handgun ever made". - bbw I think Arnold said the same thing to Jim Belushi in the film "Red Heat".” 2:00:37 AM 12/13/04 “The 454 Cassule is more powerful than a 44 and there are a lot of .50 handguns out there too. Can't say I'd want to shoot one of those bruisers.” 8:19:16 AM 12/13/04 “Thanks divinity !! These guys are way to serious.” 8:40:56 AM 12/13/04 “Firing .44 Special in a .44 magnum gun hurts your hand enough. I can't imagine what firing .44 magnum would be like. .45 CAP isn't too bad though. Firing that through my Glock felt about like firing a 9mm.” 10:00:52 AM 12/13/04 “I still prefer the venerable .357 magnum.” 10:32:21 AM 12/13/04 “Mossberg 500, sawed off for easy in-home maneuverability.” 10:48:40 AM 12/13/04 “Yep,, that 454 Casull was introduced about a dozen years prior to Eastwood saying that unforgettable line. S&W Model 500 in a .50 cal. is claiming it's the most powerful handgun in the world. It tips the scale at 5lbs when loaded and is a tad over 15 inches in length. Hey Stiky,,,do you reload that white elephant of yours? What a nightmare of a round. Do you really own one of those? (wink)” 12:54:07 PM 12/13/04 My weapon of choice “ ”1:03:46 PM 12/13/04 “is that the thing they had in Ghostbusters?” 1:04:47 PM 12/13/04 “chili rhymes with hillbilly WK, you will need a truck to carry the ammunition........or a buncha coolies. I was a pretty good 60-gunner. My A-gunners kept gettin' whacked though. last edited: 12/13/04 1:09:02 PM” 1:05:29 PM 12/13/04 “close y2” 1:07:29 PM 12/13/04 DORKS! “ ”1:10:43 PM 12/13/04
