I got the holy grail of coffees in the mail today. Jamaican Blue Mountain! It’s not as dark roasted as I like but it is so smooth you can make it as strong as you want and it never gets bitter or over baring. At $50 a pound though ya can’t go too heavy on it.

dang nigal, just when i was thinkin you was cool, you turn into a coffee snob. my wife drinks that crap...she even got her own half-size drip machine cuz i won't drink it. always tastes bitter...er somethin...

gimme folgers anyday...mountain grown...juan valdez....good to the last drop.....lolz.

It’s a treat for myself. Making that coffee is almost like a religious ritual. I have to clean the pot (blasphemy!) and use only bottled water. LOL! I drink the regular off the shelf shlt for every day. It has to be at least Surrender Monkey Roast though. Everything else is just brown water. I’ll get the Starbucks espresso beans from time to time. Now that’s so laxative coffee there!

Yes, the new coffee tubs are the best thing sense three way light bulbs. They say they tend to taste like the plastic after a while though but I drink so much coffee that it doesn’t sit there long enough.

Nigal,

I used to get Jamaican Blue Mountain thru Gevalia a couple of years ago. It was considerably less than $50/lb. It could be higher now, but you might want to check it out. They give "free" stuff too.

This is where I got it from. It was $24.99 for 8oz. They also have a Surrender Monkey Roast now that I want to try.

but doesn't it ruin your whole proportion thing when they keep filling your cup up when it isn't empty? i always figured that if i drank coffee, i would get my milk and sugar just perfect, and then they would ruin it with more coffee. i don't know why i even think about that, since i never order coffee, LOL!

It doesn't bother me, but then again I don't put sugar in my coffee and I do like to drink it black from time to time.

Eight O'Clock Colombian.

And although it is hideously expensive, Starbucks does make a decent cup of coffee.

Fear of yuppies? Afraid a friend might see ya in there? LOL!

I have always drank my coffee black and strong but the water at work that comes from the tap is so chlorinated it tastes like bleach. I have to use cream and sugar or it’s undrinkable. And if ya think the water smells bad ya smell my piss. No seriously…come here Maple…

grody to the max, Nigal!

yeah, the few occasions when i order a mocha latte w/soymilk from Starbucks, i take great pleasure in saying "SMALL" instead of whatever stupid Italian word they want me to use. Starbucks ain't Italian!

Oh, LZ, I know what you mean. Like it's a personal affront if you don't order a half-caf-espresso-cappucino-latte-with-a-twist.

I just smile back and drink my black coffee, and only pay $2 for a cup of coffee instead of $5.

When the coffee boom his it seems that in order to make more money the Jamaican government expanded what was once considered the "Blue Mountain" regeon in order to make a buck and in turn hurt that quality of their coffees. Unless you know the particular estate the coffee came from you might not be getting true JBM, and is the reason you can find some cheap JBM on the market now-adays. Usually JBM is best at a lighter city roast, roasting much beyond the second crack will usually kill degrade the flavor profile of this delicate bean. I'm not a big fan of it myself, but I do on occasion buy and roast a lb for a change of pace. If you love JBM do yourself a favor and buy:

Mavis Bank Estate Jamaican Blue Mountain Green @ $19/lb

Get yourself a hot air popcorn popper and roast it yourself. I still do a majority of my roasting in my original West Bend Poppery II, it's the method I learned on and feel more comfortable with it then using my Rosto. $2-3 at your local goodwill will get you a nice popcorn popper.
