A Decent Alaska Site “I wasn't GOING to surf tonight...Oh well, I found this site with some Alaska pics and short descriptions of a couple of trails. It is worth looking at. http://www.leathard.net/MooseDroppings/index.html#exploits” 12:06:10 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “OK that was wierd. Here again is my attempt at a link http://www.leathard.net/MooseDroppings/index.html#exploits>http://www.leathard.net/MooseDroppings/index.html#exploits” 12:08:48 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “where?” 12:09:21 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site 12:10:16 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Thank You, Snow Nymph :)” 12:12:19 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “I always wanted to go to Alaska, but don't want to do the tour thing. The Resurrection Trail looks cool, and the Glacier shots too. Some day!” 12:19:13 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “We hope to be moving back within the next couple of years. One of my dreams is to open a B&B with some cabins and campsites maybe. I would love to have TT'ers come for a stay if and when it ever comes to fruition. There are plenty of glaciers that are easily accessible. The one you see on that site, Exit Glacier, is only about a one mile walk on blacktop from the parking lot. The day after our wedding we took my Hubby's family there. His 91 year old grandfather hiked the 2 mile round-trip back to the glacier with us!” 12:32:15 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “I live in No. Cal & fly up & down the west coast on business, always fly Alaska Airlines, also use Alaska Visa card just so I can collect the miles. I am planning on an Alaska BP adventure w my son, probably not next year but the year after. I figure I can pay for just about everything by then w my miles...There are so many outstanding places to go there... check out Denali.. http://www.nps.gov/dena/” 12:40:38 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Wanderer, How old is your son? If you like to fish, ya gotta go fly-in salmon fishing! Now THAT is a rush...beautiful scenery, solitude, and fish so abundant that if you don't limit out there is definitely something wrong! But you are right, there is so much to see that it's hard to decide...you gotta LIVE there to really appreciate it.” 12:50:07 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Muktuk, the fishing trip is already in the planning process (it's a "business" trip, HAHAHAHAHAHAH). Seriously, I will do SOME businesss while I'm there (HAHAHAHAH). My son's 14, already 5'10" 150 lbs, & has been backpacking since he was 10. He runs me into the ground; it will take two years to schedule the Alaska trip just because of other conflicts, wish it could be sooner!” 1:00:32 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Amazing how those kids grow...hubby won't wrestle with his son anymore! I just checked out the Denali site...good one. I will bookmark it for future reference. I have only dayhiked in Denali. It is breathtaking. Saw lots of wildlife, too. Brownies with cubs (one with twins!), wolves, caribou, red fox...squirrels 8)” 1:16:11 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Muktuk... I definitely understand your husband's reluctance... If only an increase in common sense would accompany the physical growth, but oh well, we can't have everything!! Where are you from in CA?? Where do you live in IL? We lived in Chicago for about 12 years before we came here (wife is a CA native, I'm an East Coaster).” 1:30:32 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Wanderer, my 4 brothers and I did an Alaska trip back in '97. If you want to combine backpacking, canoeing and fishing in one trip, I would recommend the Kenai peninsula, specifically, the Kenai Canoe Trails. Other than the Boundary Waters area, this is the only other National Canoe Trail. Local outfitters will rent you a canoe and offer drop off and pick up at the trail head. Check out these links: www.alaska.net/~northlit www.soldotnalodge.com/canoeing2.htm www.alaskaoutdoorjournal.com/Activities/Canoe/canoekp.html www.jackmountainbushcraft.com/swanlake00.html” 11:39:07 AM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Wanderer, I fly Alaska for exactly the same reason--planning to do a trip with my son (someday). What I'd love to do is stay in one of the USFS wilderness cabins for a week, and do dayhikes. Some of them are in spectacular locations.” 12:00:01 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “When we did our trip to Alaska, we flew on United Airlines. We booked our flights 7 months in advance and I paid $300 for a round trip ticket from San Francisco to Anchorage.” 12:09:23 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “The advantage of Alaska Airlines is they have flights to a lot of the smaller 'cities' like Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, etc.” 12:17:47 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site 12:33:14 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “guess they didn't work” 12:34:16 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Sweep.. sweep.... sweep those boring FAVORITE threads out of the way..” 3:07:44 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “Wanderer! It sounds like your name is befitting in more ways than one maybe? Not only a wanderer in the wilderness, but also move around the country a bit, too... I am originally from Fresno, born and raised. Left there at 19 to join the Air Force which eventually led me to Alaska. We live in Algonquin, IL--just as close to Wisconsin as we are to Chi-town. Where do you live in CA? Are you near your wife's hometown? If I ever moved back it would have to be in Northern CA, but that's not gonna happen. I am hoping for a second home somewhere around Lake Tahoe, Nevada side. Our primary residence will be in Alaska. BaSO4 is right...the Kenai Peninsula is nice. That is probably where we will relocate.” 3:30:44 PM 11/16/01 RE: A Decent Alaska Site “hey! how come i'm not capitalized today?!” 3:31:56 PM 11/16/01
