Matt!!!
Matt I don't mind the pop ups too much but you've gotta get rid of the instant win scratch off (3 turtles) one! It doesn't give me a chance to close it before it takes up the whole screen and it pops up every other time I open a thread. Please make it go away!!!!

RE: Matt!!!
hey sassafras, try minimizing it instead of closing it. i do that and it doesn't continue to pop up.

RE: Matt!!!
For some reason I don't get pop-ups on TT. I have a banner on top and a little ad to the right but nothing that takes up the screen.

Bigfoot,
the pop-ups are a trade off I hade to make since the price of online ads has dropped dramatically. I would love to get rid of the pop-ups, but I have to pay my bills somehow.

Get Pop-Up Stopper. There's a free version here. Just be sure to scroll down the to bottom of the page for the free version.

I got it several months ago and haven't had a problem with pop-ups since. Haven't even noticed the pop-ups on this board Big Foot is talking about.

I hear that potassium nitrate (salpeter) works well on those pesky pop-ups as well.

Three cheers for Steve!

Matt, does pop-up stopper create an issue for you with your advertisers?
Big Coop

It will more than likely create an issue for Matt. No pop-ups mean no pay for Matt. No pay for Matt will eventually mean no TT for us. Just X them out. It's a small trade-off for a great free site.

Wrong. Matt's advertisers will not know if you are using Pop-Up Stopper. Nor will Matt. It will have no effect on his advertising.

Also, you can't really just "X" them off. You do, and pretty soon they just POP BACK UP. At least they do on most websites I go to. And even more pop up the longer you look at a site. You look at your bar to see what's minimized and then realize why your computer is operating soooooo slowly. There are 5 pop up windows open that you didn't know about. It sucks.

Doesn't it prevent you from opening a frame in a new window or opening a link in a new window?

If you want to open a frame in a new window (I think I know what Violin is talking about), just temporarily disable Pop-Up Stopper by clicking on its symbol in your toolbar. Then re-enable it with another click when you're finished.

OR
you can also hold down the shift key when clicking a link and not disable pop-up stopper. It is a cool program.

Pop-up blockers do impact my revenue. I only get paid for ads that are shown. If you use a blocker, the pop-up is not loaded, so the ad impression is not counted, so I don't get paid. The pop-ups that are shown on this site should not cause other windows to open when you close them. Nor should more than one window pop-up at a time. If things like this happen, the advertiser is going against the policy of my advertising company and I should report that to the advertising company.

Ohhh, Matt, I didn't mean that the umpteen popups happen here. I hit a lot of websites for work. And it happens on a lot of OTHER websites. Just not here. Sorry to give that impression.

Matt, here's an idea for you. Do you want to give the people who use the site a chance to donate to it?

I don't know how well it works, but I've seen it done on a couple photo forums. Then you get some cool icon by your name to recognize your donation when you post, etc.

A free writing newsletter I got also went to asking for donations. (and now might be by subscription)

Just an idea. I'm sure a lot of people who hang here a lot would want to help out. :-)

Change the order of posts
Matt:
It would be GREAT if the most recent post would be the first on the list rather than the last, especially for folks who lurk and/or frequently return to lists.

but if he does that, you will not see the first post that started the topic of that thread. I see that feature as only benificial to trolls that have 56k, so they can troll faster with out loading the whole page.

Matt only get one pop up per occurance but they don't populate into the same window they spawn a new window per ad. I usually get about three windows a session before I start shutting them down.

I like the order of posts just fine.

Matt.....

Is there still any chance that the loading speed of this thing is going to pick up, at all, anymore.

Am I just going to have to relegate myself to lurking status?

My system is still the same as it was six months ago, but since
"The Change"

I might as well go out and buy a beer while I wait for this thing to load.

Hmmmmmm.

Not a bad idea.
I can go out and get loaded while I wait for my TT to get loaded.

Waste not, want not.
