tunaView Messagestuna “has anyone tried the tuna in foil pouches on B'P'ing trips ? if so what was your opinion as to taste and ease of use as compared to cans ?” 12:36:35 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “yepper, it was really good! i thought it tasted just like the tuna in the can...except we accidentally got tuna in oil (instead of water), which i usually think is pretty disgusting, but i was really hungry, so it tasted good. really easy to carry, too! we put it on pita bread. next time, i would bring packets of mayo & relish.” 12:39:18 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “Luv it! I get the 3 oz pouches, add a packet of mayo & relish. Spread it on crackers or a tortilla, or on dayhikes I use bread.” 12:41:21 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “I found it to be a little dry and harder to break up in noodles & sauce. Still beats the weight of cans. It's the same as canned when mixed with mayo for sandwiches.” 12:45:27 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “We don't get the smaller packages here yet. What I want is little foil packages of chicken or turkey!” 12:48:19 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “i, like violin, mix it in my lipton noodle meals. butter, garlic or herb flavored. mmmm....” 12:48:47 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “Same here.. I use the foil pouches some.. especially on day hikes.. I bring the whole tuna sandwich kit..” 12:59:32 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “Love it in the foil.” 1:00:45 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “It is also good mixed with easy mac & cheese.” 1:03:54 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “They're great, especially now that they've come out with the smaller packages.” 1:08:57 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “On a day hike I make my tuna sandwich before I leave the house. I carry it in a tupperware container.” 1:22:48 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “take 1 pouch tuna, add 1/3 mayo by volume, spread on fresh sourdough ,add swiss cheese and strawberry jam ..enjoy!” 6:41:49 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “Strawberry jam!?! ACK!” 6:51:17 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “wow strawberry jam with tuna - now there is a combo I would have never thought of” 7:10:20 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “Thats no one should have thought of it. Akkk” 8:01:58 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “cant think” 8:03:23 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “I bet it'd be good, sweet and salty. Like cottage cheese with grape jelly or maple syrup. YUM” 9:19:44 PM 11/16/01 RE: tuna “She swallows.” 9:48:06 PM 11/16/01 “Starkist's "Tuna Creations" in the flavor fresh pouch. Our little local grocery store just started stocking these delicous delights. I just bought the Hickory smoked flavor. UMMMMMM good! Packet says: "lighty marinated premium chunk light tuna" 5 oz. packet cost $1.99 80 calories. 0 carbs 0 sugars 2 grams of fat, 35 grams of protien...... Tasts great... Anyone else ever try these??? I bought some of the regular tuna pouches too... I love jerky and the hickory smoke flavor caught my eye. I'm glad I tried it!!!” 7:00:39 PM 6/10/04 “i've used the pouches on several occasions, they're great! never saw flavors though.” 7:02:41 PM 6/10/04 “Roam, They where new to my store, but They may be new to the market? There was about 4-6 diff flavors I dont remember them all... I saw the "hickory" flavor and grabbed it with some regular ones... just to try. Dude it is wicked good. The hickory is not at all over powering with hickory just right... I will go back tomorrow and or over the weekend and write down the other flavors.... if you want i could grab ya one and fire it the mail for ya to try....MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM-good!” 7:07:38 PM 6/10/04 “The diff flavors have been out for at least a year now. I took them along on a recent 5 day hike. I like them on a tortilla with some mayo and dried apples. Good stuff.” 7:28:27 PM 6/10/04 “Yes they are tasty. And they cut down on the amount of additional ingredients you have to carry as well. Garlic Herb is my favorite... for the moment.” 7:54:48 PM 6/10/04 “Very tasty and handy! In in hood, though, those things are expensive as hell. 2.65 per! I've switched to the Chicken. Less mercury!” 8:26:04 PM 6/10/04 “dang, where are you guys living?? Those flavored pouches are out for a while now. My favorite is sweet and spicy. It's THE best!!! They just added one new flavor, herbs and something...forgot what... They only cost $1.69 here at the local wally land. still alot more $ then the canned.” 8:56:34 PM 6/10/04 “but way more convenient. maybe i just need to pay more attention the next time i shop.” 9:09:08 PM 6/10/04 “MMMMMMM...I love the sweet & spicy too.......and I also found tuna in olive oil...but it is in a can :(” 9:17:01 PM 6/10/04 “I like the hickory smoked. It tastes almost like smoked salmon.” 9:21:10 PM 6/10/04 “Yeah - they've been out for a while. The lemon pepper works well in those Lipton cheesey noodles. The garlic & herb is pretty good too.” 6:59:54 AM 6/11/04 Thanks for the info :-) “Wally world eh? I will be stopping there tonight! They where $1.99 at our little store I'm sure they will be far less at the Super Walmart.” 7:19:33 AM 6/11/04 “"I've switched to the Chicken. Less mercury!" laqtis 08:26:04 PM There is Mercury in tuna????” 7:25:19 AM 6/11/04 “I love those things, been around a couple of years now, except too much cholesterol ... DRs orders ... stay away!” 7:26:59 AM 6/11/04 “yeah, they say you shouldn't eat more than one serving of tuna per week or something like that. and none if your preggers or nursing. mercury = bad for the brain” 7:43:29 AM 6/11/04 “Oboy! I've been chowing it the last week!! LOL I'll have to cut back....” 8:10:13 AM 6/11/04 “Approximatly how long can you store those packets for?” 8:11:19 AM 6/11/04 “I would think a long time, check for a "sell by" date” 8:39:11 AM 6/11/04 “btw, some types of fish hold the mercury adn lead more/worse than others. I'm not real sure where tuna is on the list. Keep it in moderation and you prolly won't have any problems. If your hair starts falling out, you might want to change your diet though.” 8:40:27 AM 6/11/04 “I love the taste of tuna in the morning....... I believe the Audubohn......Audubahn.......Das Autobahn.........what a stupid name. Where was I? Oh yeah that nature website has a fish area chock-full-o-everything.” 8:56:53 AM 6/11/04 “Unfortunately, Star Kist pulled out of here years ago, but I pick them up whenever I'm down in Washington St. I think it's Sweet Sue that they call the ham and chicken ones.... not bad if you add a bit of relish and mayo and roll it up in a tortilla” 9:09:19 AM 6/11/04 “Yeah...the garlic herb is my fav too. Try some dried apples on the sandwich...they're not fresh but what the heck?” 9:42:43 AM 6/11/04 “Roam and Snafie - I don't know about whee tuna ranks on the scale. I do know tha there in the land of the Great Lakes, they have been telling us for many, many years that preggers should not eat the G.L. perch, due to the Mercury content. Hey! We gotta pay for progress some way, right?” 9:44:00 AM 6/11/04 “If you can pick up a package with a magnet, don´t eat it. These creations are way too expensive. However, I did buy one of the pink salmon packages.” 10:56:32 AM 6/11/04 “Bearmagnet, did I hear you correctly? Tuna in the morning? ;)” 12:29:27 PM 6/11/04 “good advice NS.” 12:31:09 PM 6/11/04 “Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish are the worst. Tuna, 2 meals or less a week. FDA link ” 12:40:06 PM 6/11/04 “well there ya go! doesn't it seem like we ouhtta be able to eat as much fish as we want? We be a smart bunch a folks to screw up our food supply like that aint we!” 12:41:33 PM 6/11/04 “Ah Man! I was really liking my tuna in the morning and now I can only get it twice a week WTF! What company has the ham and chicken packets? I have not seen those yet. Are they at Wally world too? Our local grocery store in dinky.” 1:31:20 PM 6/11/04 “Sweet Sue has both and I get them at walmart.” 1:32:39 PM 6/11/04 “Thanks :-)” 1:40:28 PM 6/11/04 “Also at Kroger --” 2:01:46 PM 6/11/04
