How Does SnowNymph.... “...manage to get all that time off to go backpacking? I mean really, thirty days a whack. I am so jealous. Let me know how I too can do that.” 1:03:44 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “She is the Editor-in-Chief of SnowNymph's Backpacking Journal. Don't you subscribe?” 1:13:38 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “22 years at the same job, I accumulate hours weekly. I have to make time for weekend trips. I don't need much sleep(from child rearing days), plus the Starbucks mocha helps. I leave work Friday evening, backpack in Sat, dayhike and bp out Sun and drive home late Sunday. Stumble into work on Monday. Today, I'll take 2 or 3 hrs no pay so I can save up for next years big trip to CO.” 1:23:17 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I worked for the same place for 15 years (Major Oil Co.). Had four weeks paid vacation. Switched to a small oil & gas company in April of 2000 because I got tired of all the layoff/downsizing that was going on (16 times in 15 years). Only bad thing about switching was losing two weeks paid vacation. I have asked to take time off without pay, but they won't go for it. I did get a $10,000 bonus last christmass though!!!!” 1:27:57 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “they switched our carry-over-time rules. now, we are allowed to have 90 days accumulated, at any one time.” 1:34:49 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “What, accumulate 90 days of work? I don't think you have been that productive this year.” 1:37:25 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “Dam. That's sweet. I can get comp hours but usually they mean sacrificing a weekend day or sumtin. The increase in vacay here at work sucks. You start at the standard two and only add another week every 5 years. Fortunately, I;ve accumulated about 45 sick days. Guess what. I'm gonna be "sick" alot this winter once the slopes open.” 1:39:59 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I only go into work 180 days a year” 3:56:36 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “She's a fairy, duhh. She uses fairy magic.” 3:57:45 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “ten day's a month and four day's off at a shot. One day of vacation gives me a week off x seven a year. Not counting trade shifts. Yee Haw.” 4:09:16 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I get 5 weeks a year, but if I asked for a month off I'd be laughed at. My boss would say if they could live without me for a month they could live without me, period.” 4:41:58 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I know what you mean twigeater - I also have 5 weeks (six next year) but I find the best way to take them is to take every Friday afternoon off - helps be get to the good campsites before the most other people for the weekend. I'm really looking forward to the sixth week - means ten fridays where I take the whole day off - makes it easier to get to some of the ECTs. Unofrtunately there is no accumulation of vacation from year to year - its take it in the year or lose it.” 4:57:27 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “In a couple of years my time will bump up to 5.5 weeks, that's the max. We can carry time from year to year but there's a limit - not sure what that is since it's never an issue with me!” 5:04:46 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “The most vacation we can have is accumulate a year is 160 hours. And 16 hours earned for having perfect attendance. And up to 15 sick days. I wanna try to bank enough time off to be able to thru-hike the Cumberland trail when it's complete.” 7:02:00 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I just went to part time and they still give me full time vacation! That means I get 17 days a year. I work half days so I have 34 vacation days! Almost 7 weeks!!! YEA! Plus sick and personal time. AND I plan to work two ten hour days this summer so I'll have three days off a week....really long weekends. :oD” 9:34:14 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I'd take a month off and go on a looooong BPing trip. Just leave Hyperpacker home with the new rat.” 9:37:08 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I plan on a ten dayer come August. Cain't wait!” 9:48:05 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “Does Hyper know yet?” 9:50:38 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “Yep” 9:56:53 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “God I'm glad I work for myself.” 9:59:25 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “So you'll be having a blast on the trail while he's up to his armpits in poo poo diapers. HAHAHA!!!!!!!” 10:00:05 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I do it everyday. (he does take a turn at night while I work but there's no pooh at night!) He can do it for a coupla weeks. Pooh's not so bad when it comes from your own sweet kid. He is trying desperatly to get me to agree to leaving her with a Gramma for that long so he can come along.” 10:05:35 PM 11/16/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “Those guys reeeeallly appreciate me when I come back. And they tell me. I've survived all the layoffs so far. Going thru one right now.” 2:34:24 AM 11/19/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “snow nymph.... what kind of work do you do??” 4:11:16 AM 11/19/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “Secretary” 5:01:32 AM 11/19/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “You don't have to to worry about a lay off. Your not there that much anyway. LOL” 6:46:12 AM 11/19/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I get 4 weeks a year, they prefer if I dont take it one hit, but, they cant really do much about it except grizzle about it when I get back.” 8:10:35 AM 11/19/01 RE: How Does SnowNymph.... “I get 18 weeks off and Fridays too. That and the fact that I love what I do makes it a great job. However at this time in our family life I only get about 20 days of backpacking in a year. That should go up as kids leave home.” 12:58:55 AM 11/20/01
