The old stuff is much better.

1.Patsy Cline
2. Mel Haggard (I turned 21 in prison doing life without parole....Mama tried)
3. Charlie Pride (Is Anybody going to San Antone (sp?) or Phoenix, Arizona?) 4.George Jones (And then Today, I started loving you again).
5. Johnny Cash (I fell in to a Burning Ring of Fire....)

Let me get this straight...you're busting me for not being politically correct enough? That's friggin' hilarious.

If it makes you feel any better, though, I also happen to like Dave Alvin, who is an old-fashioned bleeding-heart type.

Well if Hank Williams baked cookies, and you said, "I don't like Hank Williams cookies."

And I said, "You don't like Hank Williams cookies, because of he is a conservative."

You might have a point.

Hank Williams wasn't baking cookies.

RE: Favorite country singer
bacpac, you can't get around the fact that your bizarre insistence that I am lying (about what friggin' music I listen to, ferchrissake) is founded on the assumption that aesthetics must of necessity be subordinated to politics. That assumption of yours is the embodiment of political correctness...and it also happens to have been an essential characteristic of hardline communist (and Nazi) regimes.

tehipite,
In the past we've been on opposite sides of the fence on many things ..... but now,
I would venture we can agree that bacpac is a fooking idiot. Having said that, let's start a new TT political party and be allies!

bacpac,
I have no trouble listening to Joni Mitchell, Phil Ochs, Joan Baez, Steven Stills, or any number of peacnik singers while writing out a check for my next year's membership in the National Rifle Association as I page through my latest copy of Mother Jones magazine. Do us all a favor man, get a life.

Linda Ronstadt *tear*
hey what happened to the Trail Songs thread?

Life isn't easy
Love never lasts
You just carry on
And keep moving fast

I pulled off the highway
And rolled into town
I'm just fancy free babe
And I travel 'round

Sometimes I'm up
Sometimes down
Where can I run to
How have I sinned
When you cry like a rainstorm
And you howl like the wind

And my thoughts are filled with memories
They won't let me be
But if all the stars are shining bright
Well they would not let me see

It's so cold and the rain keeps blowing
It's tearing through the town
But I'm still fancy free darling
And I travel 'round

Sometimes I'm up
Sometimes down
Oh where can I run to
How have I sinned
When you cry like a rainstorm
And you howl like the wind

Sometimes I'm up
Most times down
Oh where can I run to
Tell me how have I sinned
When you cry like a rainstorm
And you howl like the wind

Who can I turn to
Tell me where to begin
When you cry like a rainstorm
And you howl like the wind
When you cry like a rainstorm
And you howl like the wind

Jimmy Dale Gilmore (and the Flatlanders!)
Lucinda Williams
Iris Dement
are my three my current favorites. They are also great songwriters.

I'm fond of some of the old time greats like Hank Williams Jr., Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. I also like Willie Nelson, Emmy Lou Harris.

Two small time unknowns I have come to enjoy are Mary Gauthier and Lori McKenna.

Biz:

I saw Willie in Austin long ago. There is something wonderfully mellow about him. His lyrics are often deceptively simple. I wish I'd seen old Emmy Lou, she has been putting out great music for 30 years and she has kept changing.

Isn't "favorite country singer" an oxy-moron? LOL!

Gimmie the good ol' stuff like 'Possom, and Cash. If it's gonna be country, by G-d, make it country! I hate that cross over bull crap they sell as country. Garth Brooks...you out there? Yeah YOU! You suck! Leave the sappy love songs to Elton John and stick to cowboy music! Ya wanker!

Twain! You SUCK too! Ya little backwoods Brittney Spears ho! I gotta wood chipper wit yer name on it dear!

Sometimes you dream, sometimes it seems
There's nothing there at all
You just seem older than yesterday
And you're waiting for tomorrow to call

You draw to the curtains and one thing's for certain
You're cozy in your little room
The carpet's all paid for, God bless the TV
Let's go shoot a hole in the moon

And Roy Rogers is riding tonight
Returning to our silver screens
Comic book characters never grow old
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told
Oh the great sequin cowboy who sings of the plains
Of roundups and rustlers and home on the range

Turn on the T.V., shut out the lights
Roy Rogers is riding tonight

Nine o'clock mornings, five o'clock evenings
I'd liven the pace if I could
Oh I'd rather have a ham in my sandwich than cheese
But complaining wouldn't do any good

Lay back in my armchair, close eyes and think clear
I can hear hoofbeats ahead
Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop
While the wife and the kids are in bed

Oh, and Roy Rogers is riding tonight
Returning to our silver screens
Comic book characters never grow old
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told
Oh the great sequin cowboy who sings of the plains
Of roundups and rustlers and home on the range

Turn on the T.V., shut out the lights
Roy Rogers is riding tonight
