RINGO (Lorne Greene) He lay face down in the desert sand Clutching his six-gun in his hand Shot from behind, I thought he was dead But under his heart was an ounce of lead But a spark still burned so I used my knife And late that night I saved the life of Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . .) I nursed him till the danger passed The days went by, he mended fast Then from dawn till setting sun He practiced with that deadly gun And hour on hour I watched in awe No human being could match the draw of Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) One day we rode the mountain crest And I went east and he went west I took to law and wore a star While he spread terror near and far With lead and blood he gained such fame All throught the West they feared the name of Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) I knew someday I'd face the test Which one of us would be the best And sure enough the word came down That he was holed up in the town I left the posse out in the street And I went in alone to meet Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) They said my speed was next to none But my lightning draw had just begun When I heard a blast that stung my wrist The gun went flying from my fist And I was looking down the bore Of the deadly .44 of Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) They say that was the only time That anyone had seen him smile He slowly lowered his gun and then He said to me "We're even, friend" And so at last I understood That there was still a spark of good in Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) I blocked the path of his retreat He turned and stepped into the street A dozen guns spit fire and lead A moment later, he lay dead The town began to shout and cheer Nowhere was there shed a tear for Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) The story spread throughout the land That I had beaten Ringo's hand And it was just the years, they say That made me put my guns away But on his grave they can't explain The tarnished star above the name of Ringo (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) (Ringo . . . Ringo . . . ) It was Number One on the charts in the fall of 1964. The B-Side of the single had a lyrical version of the Bonanza theme song. A guest spot on Wagon Train helped him land the role of Ben Cartwright. His commercials for Alpo dog food are also legendary.” 1:44:18 PM 3/04/04 “What's with all that leather and BIG pistols?” 1:45:49 PM 3/04/04 “Don't ask; don't tell?” 1:48:35 PM 3/04/04 “Paul. Definitly Paul.” 2:39:48 PM 3/04/04 “McCartney made some of the world's lamest music after the Beatles.” 3:02:46 PM 3/04/04 “lumberzac- I agree on the Dung Beetle. The appear very formal, like they aree wearing a tuxedo. And anything that stands on its head while working has my vote.” 3:14:29 PM 3/04/04 “Okay guys! Coffee break's over --- back on your heads!” 5:38:25 PM 3/04/04 “Another of the myriad reasons to ban Violin. He is sharing my Beatle, and I had him first. Cease and desist, Toxic Spill Boy!” 6:10:30 PM 3/04/04 “McCartney recorded some lame solo music but he had some awesome solo music too. Band on the Run is a killer album. Flaming Pie is a recent gem. Flowers in the Dirt has some good stuff on it. Paul has a lot of great solo stuff. Almost the entire press to play album sucked and alot of London Town sucked but I think Paul rocks on and he is my favorate Beatle followed closely by John, George and then Ringo. Ringo is still cool and he was one hell of a groove pocket drummer.” 6:34:04 PM 3/04/04 “dung” 7:24:46 PM 3/04/04 “ya, the dung beetle. Anything that rolls up poop for a living and removes it from the trail is ok in my book. I just wouldn't wanna bunk with him.” 9:17:12 PM 3/04/04 “I saw McCartney in Atlanta about 6(?) years ago. Most of the solo stuff went by uneventfully (mostly). There were exceptions of course, like "Live and Let Die" in particular. When they played the Beatles material, though.... Different Story Altogether. People went nuts. He had one guy in the band who sounded EXACTLY like John Lennon. You remember the old clips of all the girls screaming, crying and fainting? They were there! They were 35 years older, but they were there --- acting just like they did in 1964. It was a trip. If you ever get a chance --- check it out.” 9:53:21 PM 3/04/04 “that one guy was pretty cool.......” 10:33:35 PM 3/04/04 “I've seen McCartney in concert 4 times. Once in 1990 when I was 13, in Philly, 93 in Philly and then 2 times on the Back in the US tour two years ago, in Atlanta and Atlantic City. I think all of his career periods were well recieved. The Beatles stuff went over the best obviously but the solo stuff went over well too. He's going back out on tour again this year and rumor has it he will be back in the US in the fall. From what I can tell he isn't even promoting a new album. I know he has been working on one with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich but I haven't heard anything about how far along the recording of it has gone or when it is going to be released. It doesn't seem that the current tour is coinciding with a release of an album though.” 10:39:15 PM 3/04/04 strat “what guy?” 10:40:17 PM 3/04/04 “Nash, I thought Ram and McCartney were good albums but a little strange. I was blown away by his live CD. I never liked the Beatles much until just this passed year. I feel Revolver is one of the greatest albums of all time.” 11:03:58 PM 3/04/04 “Glad to hear that you're joining the human race, Nigal. Now, if that one other guy on the planet gets an appreciation of the Beatles, the human race will have one thing they can agree on. Right, luv?” 9:40:16 AM 3/05/04 “Dang-gone Nigal, I'm torn between Revolver and Rubber Soul! We got an album at Xmas called "For Sale". It is 1964 stuff. To me it is just about their best......the rockabilly stuff like "Honey Don't" and "Act Naturally" and "Baby's In Black". Those boys could rock and roll! Georgie's usin' lots of Rickenbacker 12-string and fat-ass Gretch electric guitars. Quite a lot of the rhythm guitar is jumbo acoustic....Go, Johnny, Go! Paul played in a nice melody-bass style. Ringo was a great time-keeper, very right-on and clean. Those crazy kids could sing harmony like no one else.” 10:07:23 AM 3/05/04 “Dang-gone Nigal, I'm torn between Revolver and Rubber Soul! I read an interview with George in which he said that Revolver and Rubber Soul were really one album. I like those two albums because they mark the departure from the innocent kids to the psychedelic wild boys.” 10:18:39 AM 3/05/04 “Yeah, they moved beyond rock and roll/rockabilly at that time. I love "Paperback Writer" and "Rain". I can't remember which of those was the A-side and I don't think those songs where on any of the albums.” 10:23:32 AM 3/05/04 “Yeah, when your A side and your B side both go gold, it's irrelevant which is which. If you were abandoned on a desert isle with only one band's music, (and the ability to play it), could there be a better choice than the Beatles?” 1:42:44 PM 3/05/04 Beatles suck.... “...big time Moose scrotum.....” 1:47:13 PM 3/05/04 “So, Stratusloop, your choice would be????....” 2:24:15 PM 3/05/04 Dunadan... “...last time I checked the Beatles aren't touring....are they? When was the last time they put out an album...or should I say CD? Shoot....how many times do you want to hear 3 chord melodys followed by "she loves me yeah yeah yeah'?.....good grief... My choice...well...if you attempt to bait me into providing a name.....in the immortal words of Steve Howe...."that would be too limiting!" IMHO....the Beatles are way way way over rated.....I can't listen to that low grade sophomoric noodling anymore....i've closed the book on them many moons ago when I was in elementary school. I hear their stuff today and cringe. I mean really....Yellow Submarine...dang....the Wiggles do similar routines but with cleaner sound....oy vey.... Disclaimer: Since i'm an Artist..I in no way denegrate the work of another Artist but only offer my critique whether it is negative or positive. Art is subjective. Therefore the above comments are NOT intended to slander.” 2:59:12 PM 3/05/04 “My favorite Beetle was German The Volkswagen (the air cooled one)” 4:46:13 PM 3/05/04 “Who's baiting who, Stratus? You seem to have a very limited knowledge of the Beatles if all you mention is their early work and Yellow Submarine. But, hey, ya gotta go with whatever you can to support your argument, I guess. You chickened out on naming another band that has as diverse and voluminous a recording history, thus the reason they would be the best choice if you could only listen to one band. Try again.” 5:06:06 PM 3/05/04 “I "got tired" of the Beatles around 1970 but I am experiencing a re-appreciation. If you listen to some of the lyrics they do seem sophomoric indeed. But, as they say about art, "it works". "Baby's In Black" is pretty silly when you sing along, yet I find myself singing it lately.......it rocks! Several years ago a DJ(radio) in Annapolis said, "I like two kinds of bands, The Beatles and anyone who sounds like the Beatles." I think about that now and then when I hear new and old music that pleases me. That would be any band that rocks hard, sings excellent harmony, writes great melodies and are truely good musicians.” 8:42:01 AM 3/06/04 “Nice post, MarkOTom. I would not want anyone to be subjected to only listening to one band the rest of their life. That could be akin to water torture. I don't listen to my Beatles CDs often, but when I do, I savor the songs like fine wine. Their impact was cultural, as well as artistic, and anyone in my age group has a hard time separating the two. If you were there, you know what I mean. That being said, it is rare in the history of music, that a band has so many original songs that cover a wide spectrum of musical styles. The Beatles have not been surpassed, IMHO.” 8:51:47 AM 3/06/04 “I remember clearly walking two miles to Sears to by the 45 of "Rain" and "Paperback Writer". That would have been '65....or '66.....that part is unclear. "Nowhere Man" still gives me chills. When I was about 14 I saw a band play "Nowhere Man" a teen club dance. That kid played the solo parts spot-on! He nailed the harmonic ring at the end of the solo! I have had a deep love affair with the electric guitar ever since.” 9:17:11 AM 3/06/04 “I would like to get the Beatle movie "Help" on DVD. I guess they smoked pot during filming every day. Tee hee!” 10:24:00 AM 3/06/04 “My favorite Beat-le is... Jack Kerouac.” 10:29:05 AM 3/06/04 “Link for Tom (note cuts 3 & 4) I agree with Stratusloop about denegrating other artists.... It's just that Disco and Rap do not constitute 'Art', LOL” 10:29:19 AM 3/06/04 Favorite Beetle??? “...rhinoceros...” 10:35:41 AM 3/06/04 “Thanks, Tilt! That looks like a collection of 45's.” 11:01:03 AM 3/06/04 “I don't think it was their most 'cohesive' album ever, <G> That's a cool site: all the lyrics, the recording dates, weird little glitches, ...” 11:10:32 AM 3/06/04 “ -- My New Favorite Beatle Photo -- ”8:11:14 PM 3/06/04 “FG-I saw two rhinoceros beetles dukeing it out in a tree in Costa Rica. they are huge and funny looking, like they have somesorta buggy bottleopener on their nose. my least fav at the moment is the ash borer. pretty irridescent green, i bet they would make a nice specimen framed on my wall. gov't is cutting lots of trees around here to try to stop them from moving north into Canada.” 8:26:56 PM 3/06/04 “Are those the ones that came in from China?” 8:47:08 PM 3/06/04 “Who's baiting who, Stratus? You seem to have a very limited knowledge of the Beatles if all you mention is their early work and Yellow Submarine. But, hey, ya gotta go with whatever you can to support your argument, I guess. You chickened out on naming another band that has as diverse and voluminous a recording history, thus the reason they would be the best choice if you could only listen to one band. Try again." Dunadan 05:06:06 PM 03/05/04 Well...if you have read what I wrote...then you wouldn't waste your time babbling..... 1. Chickened out??? A juvenile phrase at best, never-the-less, if I state an alternative then that would be too limiting....do you understand this concept? 2. Limited knowledge of the Beatles? Well I know all I need to know to formulate an honest critique. 3. To mention early versus later material is sort of an odd characteristic as it applies to the Beatles. To analogize....the group YES has been around for 35 years, so to compare early versus later is applicable. To apply the same logic to the Beatles is kind of absurd. Like I said...are they still touring? Did they release something new lately? IMHO.....the Beatles were a pop culture phenomenom but never fully lived up to their potential...they were short lived and to this day...it's rather difficult to accept their music beyond the category of child's play.” 12:37:17 PM 3/08/04 “(see photo above)” 12:51:52 PM 3/08/04 “Thanks, professor stratusloop. Do you think that YES has sold as many records as the Beatles? In my opinion YES sucked donkey dung after the '70s. They were however fantastic when I saw them in '01 at Wolf Trap during the YeSymphonic Tour. That Gibson/Epiphone Jumbo guitar that John is holding is likely the one used for rhythm in a lot of those songs from '64-'66.” 12:58:57 PM 3/08/04 “I've always liked Clarence, the 5th Beatle. Anyone recall the SNL skit where Eddie Murphy was the 5th Beatle...Oh, yes, I (man) wanna tell ya (man), I think you'll understand.” 1:01:35 PM 3/08/04 “LMAO@dayhiker.” 1:04:28 PM 3/08/04 “Yep! That Gibson J-160E! They say the original was stolen... and it's still out there somewhere.....” 1:17:37 PM 3/08/04 “Jumbo guitars kick ass! They have a B I G sound!” 1:35:07 PM 3/08/04 Mark O.. “....you're going off track on me...record sales has no meaning when criticizing art forms...I don't give a rats arse about record sales as a measurement to success, quality, etc.....If that were the case then there are numerous so-called artist that have sold more records than the Beatles. This is purely an exercise in expressing my honest opinion of the Beatles as they pertain to a musical art form....the YES analogy was simply used to disprove Dunadan's logic....it's really hard to compare longevity from one band to another.....Beatles were short lived...they were around for a few years put out some records within that span of time but to compare a composition of work between what happened during 5 years time or whatever it was versus 35 is not applicable. It's ridiculus. The point was....we've had the fortunate opportunity to see and hear the growth of a particular band and I used YES as an example. Unfortunately, the Beatles were never given the opportunity to grow...what you hear today is deprived of any "real" maturity that the Beatles could have produced. The Beatles music is devoid of "true growth". One will never know...but again...my honest opinion of what they "did" produce....is sophomoric, dated and has seen it's time. I mean...it's like listening to Honky Tonk Woman by the Stones....how many times can one bear to hear this stuff... Like I said...it was nice to hear...back in the day as they say...” 1:44:20 PM 3/08/04 “After about '69 the Rolling Stones have been artistically bankrupt. That's what I think! Its a good thing the Beatles broke when they did......it was over. The Cream only lasted 2 years. What they did was great, but it was time to move on. I lost interest in the Beatles about '70. There was so much more "advanced" stuff around. Yeah, but I like them again NOW. 35 years ago I thought Buddy Holly was a hack. I've gotten more out of Holly in the last 15 years.....go figure. I'm printing out tablature, etc and learning rockabilly Beatles music this year......what a putz I am!” 1:52:21 PM 3/08/04 Jump to Page << prev
