Stratus. I am stressing volume, diversity, and originality. Longevity never entered into my argument, but now that you've brought it up, the Beatles are WAY ahead on that curve, considering rock and roll bands average existence is less than one year.
The Beatles were on the cutting edge of their times and are still being imitated and sampled to this day. I'm sorry that they made such a huge and WORLDWIDE impact that you don't have an argument against them. It's OK. No hard feelings here.
Also, look at where they stand among the great song writers and how many great song writers have praised their work. How many of their songs have been re-recorded by other artists and how many times? Hey, one of the biggest selling hip-hop records out today is, essentially, the White Album.
Game, set, match.

Busting someone's onions for not liking the Beatles is like busting on someone for not liking the color green. It may mean they are crazy but it doesn't mean we have to bust on them for it. LOL!

Most of my favorites are the ones non-Beatles fans have probably never even heard because they were rarely if ever played on the radio.

I have a cd of Beatles mp3's. 22 albums and the singles. I think I'll get it out.

If anyone cares to assess the impact of the Beatles, go to "tabcrawler.com".

There are TEN pages of tab and chords, etc for them.(guitar music submitted by players)

Page ONE covers "8 Days A Week" to "Because".

There are FOUR pages for Bob Dylan FIVE for Neil Young and but ONE for the YES.

The Beatles time is forever
Paul McCartney and John Lennon typically top the list of greatest composers of all time. All of the others in the list are classical composers. Yes, while being a decent band with some good music, Jon Anderson or any other members will never make even the top 100o list.

The Beatles put out "1" in 2000 and it has sold 10 million in the US alone. I believe over 30 million worldwide. The Beatles are very much still a factor today. Kids are buying their records. When Let it Be Naked was released they listed Britney Spears' "in the zone" as competition. When I went to see Paul McCartney in 2002, it almost seemed that there were more young people than older people, and I am 27. The Beatles are very relevant today and will forever be. They are after all the greatest musical making entity of all time. That is a position they will not be knocked from. Thank you very much.

Dunadan...
Forget your game, set, match nonsense....stuff it in your pants and a rub....you just don't get it...really....i'm not sure what planet you live on but really mate....your logic is a bit askew...

Whatever it was that you blabbered on and on about in your last post don't mean too much to me....in fact all of what you stated is really a bunch of gibberish....you said absolutely nothing.

BTW...are the Beatles touring today?

Have they produced something new lately?

The Fab Four...IMHO....to me...that's right....i'm entitled to an opinion...and the stratusloop says...the Beatles suck!....OK...now is that on a level you can comprehend?
I don't give a monkeys ding-a-ling about the freakin' Beatles...if you gave me a Beatles CD for free...i'd flush it down the loo...right where it belongs!

Now listen here buster boy....the stratusloop has stuff to do....Speed Racer is about to come on and stratusloop don't have no more time for juvenile antics....now go and take that white album of yours and do what it was intended for....wipe your heiny with it!

Dunadan....hopefully this is banter you can relate with....

Bad mouthing the Boys could put you in some mighty nerdy company, but I guess you don't mind. So, I won't demean Barry Manilow, Michael Bolton, or Kenny G. That way we can call a truce, OK?
Logic? Do you even know the meaning of the word?

Paul is on tour!!
Actually, Paul McCartney is going out on tour in Europe and he just sold out a bunch of shows in minutes.

I think alot of people will agree that his concerts are pretty awesome. Especially the last tour. He isn't promoting a new album either so I bet he will play alot of Bealtes stuff.

He's been working on a new record with Nigel Godrich but I am not sure when it is to be released.

Buddur, the Ruttles move was hilarious. I need to see it again. Concert for George is awesome. I love Paul's rendition of All Things Must Pass. Paul and Clapton should do a CD together. They voices really complement eachother well. A great bootleg to get is demos by Paul and Elvis Costello. Flowers in the Dirt stuff sounds really good just them and their acoustic guitars.

"Actually, Paul McCartney is going out on tour in Europe and he just sold out a bunch of shows in minutes."

Not only is he on tour, but he is as good today as ever was. He hasn't lost a thing. Anyone see the Stone's last tour? It's like watching your grandpa try to be cool.

But the simple fact stratys doesn't care for them can never deminish the love I have for their music. It's just a difference in taste and hardly worth getting mean about.

Name a better bass player than Paul McCartney!! If you think you can I suggest you listen to the following songs.

Something, Old Brown Shoe, She Came in thru the Bathroom window, Rain, Paperback Writer, Dear Prudence and well everyother Beatle song ever recorded, excluding, Hey Jude, Long and Winding Rd, Let it Be, Helter Skelter, you get the point.

Paul nails the bass lines when he plays live and he's singing at the same time. He is also a great guitarist and can play rythm on an acoustic as good as anyone.

I could listen to Revolver and Abbey Road over and over again.

I love Ringo's drumming in She said, She said.

The Beatles invented drum loops (listen to Tomorrow Never Knows). They were doing things 40 years ago that people are doing now. They were so far ahead of their time.

I think anyone who claims to know anything about music and say that the Beatles sucked and contributed little to music other than being a really popular band needs to re-evaluate grip on reality.

it is simply unintelligent to say that the Beatles sucked. You can have any opinion you want. You may even dislike the Beatles. Hate them all you want. To say they suck and had no talent is like saying that Michaelangelo was a lousy artist, or Abraham Lincoln an aweful president.

The Beatles are in reality, the undisputed champions of music. The vast majority of the music that we listen to, we have the Beatles to thank. Simply because of how they changed the face of music.

Nigel: You are right about Paul. His concerts are awesome. The band that is backing him is great and are energized by Paul, and Paul by them. You can see that they feed off eachother, especially Paul and the drummer, Abe.

On McCartney he played everything. On Ram he played everything except drums and some guitar, I think. On Flaming Pie he played alot of the instruments. Even on Band on the Run he played drums.

As a matter of fact, there are a few songs on the White Album where Paul played the drums when Ringo quit for two weeks.

Ay Ay Ay....now that's not polite to go and dis the stratusloop...

I'm really happy that you're spell bound by the Beatles...that's fine and dandy...but stratusloop doesn't like the Beatles....he stopped listening to the Beatles about 30 years ago...things in life happen.....like maturity....

You can go on and on and on about this and that about the Beatles...but really....stratusloop doesn't give a flying turkey nut about it...that's all well and good....but the fact remains that stratusloop thinks the Beatles music is sophomoric...2 bit 3 chord melodies...now really...how many times can one stand to hear "she loves me yeah yeah yeah"...

Sheesh....can't someone have an opinion about something without the world going into a tizzy...good grief mate....

Now get a grip laddy...The Beatles music is dead.....that's right D.E.A.D.....there won't be any forthcoming concerts or new releases....so get over it....the music they produced had it's day in the sun....that day my friend is long over....

Now...hopefully this will be the last mumbling stratusloop makes on the matter....the bottom line...stratusloop don't like the Beatles....and IHHO...they weren't very good....everyone is entitled to their opinion....go ahead...pollute your mind with juvenile tunes...stratusloop don't care....this is a free country!

Um Pa Um Pa Umpety Do....
What do you see when you look in the loo?
I see the Beatles swimming in poo...

Stratus, you're loopy.
Mozart won't be touring this year, either. Nor will Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Robert Johnson, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Kirk Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and The Doors, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Caruso, Mingus, or Miles Davis be in a concert hall any time soon.
Now, care to take them all on at once?

Oh get serious! Leisure suits? I prefer the traditional gray flannel suit with the stand up collars like they wore in the movie “HELP!”. Much more stylish. Am considering getting one of the Sgt. Peppers suites though for spring. LOL!

I love them but I’m not offended by the fact that you don’t. It’s all apples to oranges anyhow.

How about 'Seamus' by Pink Floyd, Nigal? It's from the 'Meddle' album. The dog howls the "melody" through the whole song. Honey would probably love that one!

As far as the Beatles go:

Personally, I still avidly listen to them. I think that their instrumentation deserves the credit that they get from some folks. Sucky band? Not a chance. You can't call a band that contributed that much and took a place in music history with that much innovation a sucky band. They may have only been around for a limited time, but as for impact, it was/is monumental. I believe that 'Yesterday' has been recorded more than 1,500 times. I am not sure, just something that I think I recall hearing.

Are they the greatest that ever played their instruments? Probably not. But, not far behnd, IMO. However, you have to put it in the big picture. Look at athletes of yesteryear and those of today. Records are broken and the young players strive to achieve new heights. Innovations are what pave the way for that. The 'greatness' factor is relative with the times it is produced. Were there any old basketball players that could leap like Michael Jordan? I don't remember seeing any. But, there was greatness in Jerry West, Walt Frazier, John Havlicek, etc. Also, longevity is a big factor. Look at how much enthusiasm the Beatles manage to generate 40 years after the fact. I am sure some of the bands of today knw that they don't have a prayer in matching that feat in 2044.

It's all subjective, that much is true. But, you can't deny the talent of these guys. My 2 cents...

I don’t have too much Floyd. Of course I have the Wall and feel it’s probably the greatest concept album of all time (Operation Mindcrime by Queens Ryke #2). I’ll check the used bin next time I go and pick it up. A lot of times you have to take music in the context of the time it was made. At the time they were just so far ahead of the game. The same can be said for Queen. All these thrash bands today would be shocked to hear a song like “Shear Heart Attack” being done back in ‘78.
